Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 611: Alice

Chapter 611: Alice

The girl in Liora’s hands struggled to escape, flailing her arms in an attempt to shake off Liora’s hand.

Unfortunately for her, her struggles proved futile.

No matter how hard she tried, Liora’s hand did not even budge, much less release her.

“You… You…!”

“What do you think you’re doing? Let me down! Let me down!”, the little girl spoke up, waving her legs back and forth.

Unlike the previous time she had spoken, during the start of the trial, her tone was far less majestic and… far more aggrieved.

Had Liora not known any better, she would have believed that the other party was ready to burst into tears.

However, with everything that had happened before, and the power lurking within this little girl’s unassuming body, Liora did not dare to underestimate the opponent and let her guard down.

Not only did her clasp not soften, but instead more demonic energy rushed out of her palm, flowing into the girl’s body and forming Devil Runes that blended together to seal her strength.

At a rate visible to the naked eye, the little girl’s strength started to fall, much to the other person’s fury.

Ignoring the look of grievance on her face, Liora did not waste any time, choosing to jump straight to the topic.

“Are you the person responsible for the city fragment’s appearance? Did you lead these two teams here?”

“What are you trying to achieve? It can’t be that you merely want to kill us all, right?”

In response to this question, the little girl chose to remain silent.

Without giving any response, she moved her head to the side, like a child who had gotten into an argument and was unwilling to engage any longer.

It was as though she was saying, “I won’t speak to you no matter what”.

Such a reaction made Liora speechless. The other party was a powerful being after all, one who had lived for a very long time.

How could she act like this?

However, she wouldn’t let things go on.

She wasn’t planning to show mercy to her opponent just because of their outward appearance and childlike behavior.

With her empty hand, Liora reached out, placing her palm on top of the girl’s head. Then, she opened her mouth and spoke:

“Since you’re unwilling to say anything, I can only resort to going through your memories to find what I’m looking for…”

“I don’t know what you cultivators call it.”

“Soul Search? Memory Search?”

“Either way, it doesn’t matter.”, Liora shook her head.

“Please try to endure for as long as possible. If you are unable to bear the pain and happen to fall unconscious, you will surely perish.”, she gently reminded.

As soon as she finished speaking, her slender fingers carved even more Devil Runes, spreading from the girl’s head and drilling into the depths of her body.

At first, the girl merely sneered at Liora’s words, feeling that she was merely trying to scare her.

However, as the runes increased in number and their power got higher with each passing second, all while constantly approaching her soul, a wave of panic washed over her heart.

She didn’t want to die just yet. She had yet to complete her creator’s plan.

More importantly…

“No! I don’t want to suffer any pain!”

“I’ll speak! I’ll speak!”

“Just ask, and I’ll answer any of your questions. Just don’t search through my soul!”

This time, the girl really burst into tears.

It seemed that the threat of pain had made her extremely frightened, being far more effective than the threat of death.

Liora appeared to hesitate. Devil Runes continued to flow out of her palm, merely slowing their formation.

Just as the girl was about to plead again and beg for mercy, Liora suddenly shook her head.

She slowly withdrew her hand.

“You’re quite lucky.”, she said.

“I happen to be in a good mood today and don’t want to witness any unnecessary bloodshed.”

“Since you’re ready to speak, there is no reason to place you under such a burden.”

The girl completely ignored her words.

Staring at the Devil Runes wrapping around her soul dissipating, she couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.

Just as she was planning to celebrate her survival from this desperate predicament, however, a voice rang out.

“What’s your name?”

Turning to look at its source, only to find Liora staring at her with what she considered a gentle look but, in the girl’s eyes, was quite frightening; the girl hurriedly spoke.

“Alice! This was the name my creator bestowed upon me back then.”

“Creator? You mean the cultivator who left behind this inheritance? Did they create you to guard this place?”

“Exactly.”, Alice immediately nodded, a trace of pride flashing across her eyes.

“My creator used to be a puppet master. At their height, even the legendary Immortals would speak to them with respect. And I…”

“I’m his most precious creation.”, she puffed out her chest.

A flash of surprise appeared on Liora’s face.

Not because of the mention of Immortals or the little girl’s pride, but because of something else.

Before she could say anything, a stream of azure light emerged from her temple and landed beside her.

It quickly coalesced into the form of Alpha.

“Did you say that your creator was a puppet master? Does that mean that you’re a puppet too?”, Alpha immediately asked, her curious gaze roaming over the little girl who was still being held several inches above the floor.

Sensing her eyes, the girl also looked back at her.

Instantly, her eyes widened.

“You’re a puppet? No. Not exactly…”

“You seem to be a fusion of several things. Puppet, some intricate type of mechanical creation, and a race I’ve never encountered before…”

Despite what her immature appearance and behavior would suggest, the girl showed a great amount of knowledge.

With just a single glance, she was able to see through Alpha’s details and discover her true nature.

“As for me, I’m sorry, but I’m not a puppet.”, she then went on to shake her head.

“I’m more akin to a Weapon or Formation Spirit. In fact, the inheritance itself can be considered to be my real body.”

Although not a puppet, chatting with Alpha seemed to make Alice quite happy.

Her tone, previously nervous and apprehensive, softened somewhat.

Of course, Liora understood that one’s feelings were truly a mystery.

Whether this “immature” girl had really relaxed or merely used this opportunity to make her let down her guard was completely unknown.

Regardless, she didn’t dwell on this matter for long.

Not giving any time for the two women to converse any further, she waved her hand, interrupting them.

Then, she continued with her next question.

“You mentioned the inheritance before, and you’re mentioning the inheritance now. Does this mean that the inheritance is a real thing rather than something you made up?”

“Of course! Of course my creator’s inheritance is a real thing!”, Alice snapped, seemingly offended by Liora’s doubts.

“Haven’t you been wondering why this inheritance was left behind? The reason is very simple…”
