Evolution: From Little Devil to Devil Empress

Chapter 655: Rewinding Time

Chapter 655: Rewinding Time

Two pairs of eyes collided in the air.

One pair was crimson and indifferent. The other was black, yet filled with majesty.

Silence shrouded the entire hall as neither of the opposing parties spoke.

The auras clashed fiercely, causing the entire palace to tremble, though it was obvious that the man held the absolute advantage over Liora.

He seemed to have realized it. And thus, he took advantage of it.

The stalemate lasted for just a split second before he took action.

Another wave of energy erupted from his body, condensing into a hand.

Unlike the ones that had killed the Emperors, this one was much smaller.

Yet its strength had not diminished in the slightest.

If anything, the fact that it covered a smaller range made its power even more terrifying, as though the separated power had been compressed together.

Its speed remained as incredible as before.

One moment it was above the unknown man.

The next, it had appeared in front of Liora and directly struck at her body.

She was unable to react.

Although her mind screamed of danger, her body found it impossible to keep up with her thinking speed.

Before she could evade, much less put up a defense, the palm had landed on her.

Starting from her skin, its powers dug into her flesh and then the internal organs and bones inside.

All of them were obliterated in an instant, as though erased by an invisible hand.

It didn’t take long.

In the blink of an eye, Liora’s figure had disappeared.

Even her consciousness had been wiped out, signaling her complete annihilation.

Yet just as Alpha was feeling shocked and the eyes of the unknown man flickered, the sound of flowing water rang out.

The scene in front of them changed.

It was as though someone had pressed the rewind button and affected reality itself.

The vision of an illusory river stopping and then starting to flow backwards materialized for a split second.

Then, flesh, blood, and bones were woven together.

It was not that they had just been created. Rather, they seemed to have never been destroyed in the first place.

Just like their destruction, their recovery process only took a brief moment.

The next instant, Liora had appeared in the hall once again, much to Alpha’s relief and the unknown man’s surprise.

“It seems that you’ve regained quite a bit of your strength…”, the unknown man murmured, though he gave Liora no time to respond.

He launched another round of attacks.

This time, not one but dozens of hands took form, smashing at her from every direction.

Liora was shrouded in their shadows.

Yet even though she faced more opponents, she wasn’t as vulnerable as before.

A golden token appeared in her hand.

With a thought, it dispersed into strands of light that transformed into a sword.

Clutching its handle tightly, Liora raised it and swung it in front of her.

Not once, but several times.

Golden lights flashed, each representing a thrust of the sword’s edge.

Liora’s combat prowess had long since entered Rank 11.

With the benefits she had gained within the formation’s core and the assistance of the upgraded Immortal Token, her strength was now more terrifying than ever.

It had reached the threshold between Rank 11 and Rank 12.

With one slight push, she would take the final leap.

But that small gap was everything.

Before one took that final step, the difference was akin to that between an ordinary person and a Rank 10 Awakener.

Although Liora could have dealt with the rest of the Emperors with the same ease as the man before her, when their powers met, the difference between them was showcased.

She found herself at a massive disadvantage.

She was able to shatter less than half of the condensed hands.

As for the rest, she could only watch helplessly as they wrapped her up, obliterating everything about her.

The unknown man seemed unwilling to give her a chance to be reborn this time.

He wasn’t satisfied with just destroying her body and soul.

He went so far as to strike the area where she stood, reaching into the deepest layers of space and destroying them as well.

Unfortunately, the great effort he had gone through proved futile.

Before he could breathe a sigh of relief, the sound of water flowing rang out.

The illusory river materialized for an instant before Liora emerged once again.

Her expression remained the same, as had her aura.

Despite her continuous rebirth, she seemed to have suffered no backlash.

It was as though she could continue doing this forever.

In fact, this was indeed the case.

The birth of the River of Time within the Cosmic Sea had given Liora several incredible abilities, among which was great control over the power of time.

With the Cosmic Sea essentially being her and her physical body being merely a vessel to contain it, nothing was stopping her from constantly turning time back to when she was still “alive”.

Unless her opponent was powerful enough to stop that process or possessed some great control over the power of time, they would never be able to kill her completely so easily.

At best, they would be forced to seal her and wear her down.

Unfortunately for the unknown man, he could do neither.

The Emperors outside hadn’t noticed it during the previous exchange, as had Alpha in the hall.

But Liora quickly sensed that the man’s power was decreasing with each passing second.

If his initial attack had been at the “Middle Stage” of Rank 12, it had now fallen to the “Early Stage”.

He was still stronger than her.

However, it was only a matter of time before he would fall to the same level.

The essence he had absorbed appeared to be a consumable. Once it was exhausted, he would return to his original level.

As for the reason…

“Are you done yet?”, Liora addressed the man for the first time.

“I didn’t wake you up to let you show off. This is the essence I worked so hard to collect.”

“Now, you’re wasting it for no reason.”, she shook her head, clicking her tongue in disapproval.
