Chapter 747: Upgraded System Functions
Chapter 747: Upgraded System Functions
[True Name: Liora Veythalis Dranthera Vexira…]
[Rank: Ancient Devil (Antiquity)]
[Race: ???, Origin Sea Prototype, Will of the World]
[Throne: Antiquity, Dragon, Time, Space, Life, Death…]
[Imprinting: 1mm]
[Evolution Points: 18]
…
The changes were many.
The Evolution Points column had appeared once again, although it had been adjusted following the upgrade.
The vast number of Evolution Points Liora had managed to accumulate was nowhere to be found, having decreased to just 18.
Liora knew that this was not because the upgrade had consumed her points. Rather, it was that the value of the points had depreciated.
This was surprising, but also expected.
Devouring the soul of a Prince of the Demon World would grant her an enormous amount of points under the original rules.
Once or twice was acceptable, but as the points accumulated, the Panel would become a mess sooner or later.
It couldn’t be that Liora would have to see trillions of digits every time she summoned it, right?
Shaking her head, Liora looked at the new addition to the Panel.
Imprinting.
Obviously, this new function was related to an Ancient Devil’s abilities.
As for what “1mm” referred to, she had no clue for the time being.
Fortunately, a (+) button floated beside the column, as though tempting her to press it.
Liora could be certain that as long as she did, all her doubts would be immediately answered.
She only paused to think for a split second.
Then, she directly pressed the button.
A familiar sensation instantly enveloped her.
Her consciousness was transferred away once more.
This time, she was not brought to the dimension of the River of Time, but into a vast void.
The void was unending. Or at the very least, it was so large that her consciousness failed to reach its ends.
Everything within it was pitch-black, save for the existence of a tiny white light.
It was barely one millimeter in diameter and looked completely unremarkable.
Were it not for it being the only object inside this vast expanse, one could very well overlook it.
Yet the instant Liora looked at it, she sensed a connection between them.
A moment later, information flooded her mind.
Soon, she came to understand the function of the upgraded Evolution System and the light before her.
“I see. It’s no wonder that the System completed its upgrade only after I advanced.” Liora whispered.
This had something to do with the advancement process of Ancient Devils following the completion of their own timelines.
Until that point, leaving their imprints on the River of Time was relatively simple, only requiring them to awaken their past selves.
But after that, things became far more complicated.
With no selves to awaken, Ancient Devils had to resort to using other means.
They had to insert themselves into the timeline.
There were several ways to achieve this.
The common method was to alter time so that the history before their birth included themselves.
For example, Liora could directly change history and make herself the reincarnation of another, more ancient Ancient Devil whose soul was brought back to the Demon World.
By forging such an identity, she would be able to create a new “fake” timeline and extend her own history further back.
Even inheriting the abilities of that Ancient Devil was possible.
“Of course, that is the most crude and dangerous way to achieve something like this.”
Liora shook her head.
“Every interference with the River of Time will lead to a violent backlash.”
“Making myself the reincarnation of a more powerful being who perished and ended up as a new soul in the Demon World is indeed possible, but the backlash would likely kill me.”
“Rather than doing that, it would be better to interfere sparingly at certain important nodes.”
“If I were simply the reincarnation of an ordinary mortal, it would be far less complicated. Then, using the same method, I could extend the timeline further back.”
Even so, the process was troublesome and time-consuming. One had to go through many twists and turns to achieve their final goal.
That was why most Ancient Devils remained forever in the Other Shore and Antiquity stages, and were forced to remain in sleep, unwilling to face their Tribulation.
“Originally, the easiest way to advance my own timeline would have been to consider my life on Earth as a reincarnation and include it in my timeline.”
“Unfortunately…”
Liora had already checked upon her advancement to the Antiquity stage.
Earth did not exist. Or rather, it did not exist within the Origin Sea’s boundaries.
Her plan had failed before it had even begun.
It seemed that she would have to work hard and strengthen herself like ordinary Ancient Devils would do.
Thankfully, the Evolution System claimed to be able to save her from the trouble of having to do so.
Glancing at the tiny light floating before her and recalling the information she had just received, Liora decided to give it a try.
As her mind stirred, the Evolution Points in her Panel began burning.
In exchange, Liora’s consciousness merged with the light.
Her tiny, illusory figure hovered above it, staring at the darkness ahead with determination.
Sensing the strength coursing through her body, she raised her hand and struck forward.
As though in response, the darkness retreated, allowing the light to cover its original location.
From one millimeter, the light doubled to two.
Then, Liora launched another attack.
Two millimeters became three.
Again and again.
In the dark void, the darkness retreated under Liora’s constant attacks, giving way to the light.
Five millimeters. Seven millimeters. Nine millimeters.
Soon, the light became ten millimeters, or one centimeter long.
Compared to the darkness surrounding it, its progress was minimal.
Yet Liora could clearly sense the changes this had brought to herself.
With every expansion of the light, her own timeline would also expand accordingly.
If a Prince of the Demon World were to observe the River of Time from above, they would see Liora’s figure appearing in the times before her birth.
It didn’t have the consistency of a normal imprint.
Rather, she had been forcefully inserted into the timeline in a way that no Ancient Devil could comprehend.
And as the light grew larger, her imprint would be forcefully inserted further into the past.
Sensing this, Liora didn’t dare to pause.
She could see that the power brought by the Evolution Points did not depend on her progress, but rather on time.
Each Evolution Point could bring her one second of “strength.”
She only had 18 seconds.
Before that, she had to expand the light as much as she could!
