Chapter 1116: Awareness And Correction [1]
Chapter 1116: Awareness And Correction [1]
The situation surrounding the five Level 100 wolves changed almost immediately after Beginning entered the battlefield.
Originally, the wolves had possessed a clear advantage in how they divided themselves. Two restrained the Undead High Drake, one occupied the Bone Dragon, and two concentrated on the Bone Wyvern.
Their intention had been to destroy the weakest target first, then gradually use the freed-up numbers to overwhelm the remaining two. It was a perfectly reasonable strategy.
Unfortunately, Michael had broken their arrangement before it could produce any meaningful result.
The arrival of the two Black Serpent ancestors had drawn away one of the wolves attacking the Bone Wyvern. Now Beginning had entered as well.
The battlefield was reorganized instantly.
The Undead High Drake still faced two Level 100 wolves. The Bone Dragon remained against one. The Bone Wyvern fought one. And Beginning had directly taken the last.
Of course, the distribution was far from equal.
ROOOOOAR!!
The Undead High Drake swept one enormous wing sideways.
BOOOOOOM!
The first wolf was struck across the body and thrown through several mountains. The second immediately appeared above the drake. Its claws descended.
CLANG!
Sparks exploded. The claws carved shallow marks across the High Drake's scales but failed to penetrate deeply. The Undead High Drake twisted violently. Its tail moved.
BANG!
The wolf barely crossed its forelimbs before the strike sent it tumbling through the sky.
Even with two Level 100 Three-Star Extraordinary monsters attacking together, the High Drake showed no signs of being overwhelmed. At most, they were successfully restraining it.
Michael watched for a moment before shifting his attention.
The Bone Dragon's fight was much simpler. It and the opposing wolf had practically entered a contest of durability.
BOOM!
The wolf's claws struck the dragon's ribs. Several bone fragments flew. The Bone Dragon ignored the damage completely. Its enormous jaws closed around the wolf's shoulder.
CRACK!
The wolf howled. Its hind claws immediately tore into the Bone Dragon's chest. More bones shattered. Neither retreated.
Michael's expression became slightly strange.
"…Idiots."
He wasn't even sure which one he was referring to. Fortunately, the Bone Dragon had enough energy to continuously nourish itself, and several tiny cracks were already beginning to repair.
The Bone Wyvern's battle was more dangerous. Although it now only faced one wolf, its previous injuries hadn't disappeared. One wing had several visible fractures and its left side was covered in claw marks.
The wolf had clearly noticed this, as every attack targeted the injured areas. But without another wolf supporting it, the Bone Wyvern could finally fight properly.
The Bone Wyvern's wings suddenly folded.
Whoosh!
The skeletal figure dropped. The wolf followed immediately. Just before reaching the ground, the Bone Wyvern spread its wings.
The skeletal figure dropped. The wolf followed immediately. Just before reaching the ground, the Bone Wyvern spread its wings.
BOOOOOOM!
The sudden change in direction created a violent burst of wind. Its body shot horizontally. The wolf missed. The Wyvern's barbed tail swung backward.
CRACK!
Several spikes pierced the wolf's side. The wolf roared and bit down on the tail. The Bone Wyvern twisted. Both creatures crashed into the forest.
Compared to these three battles, Beginning's fight was almost absurd.
Michael had specifically ordered it not to act recklessly. That meant no intentionally allowing itself to be heavily injured just to trigger increasingly violent bursts of Brutal Rebirth. No deliberately ignoring fatal attacks. No using its body as though it were a disposable weapon. For once, Beginning was fighting with its full strength normally. Or at least, what the undead considered normal.
BOOOOOOM!
Beginning's fist collided against the wolf's skull. The massive beast crashed downward. Beginning followed. The wolf twisted in the air and opened its jaws. Gray energy erupted.
BOOM!
The attack struck Beginning directly in the chest. Its enormous body was pushed backward several hundred meters. The energy disappeared. Large sections of Beginning's chest had been torn apart.
Beginning looked down at its injury before returning its gaze to its opponent.
The wolf immediately moved again. Its claws descended. Beginning could have dodged. Yet it only shifted slightly. The claws that should have torn across its neck instead struck its shoulder. Flesh exploded.
CRACK!
Michael's eyebrow twitched.
"…Beginning. I said don't be reckless."
Still hidden in the void to avoid attracting attention and conserve energy for the battle ahead, Michael communicated mentally with his undead.
Beginning slowly turned back toward the wolf. This time, it dodged.
Completely.
Whoosh!
The wolf's claws passed through empty space. Michael nodded in satisfaction.
Then Beginning grabbed the wolf's hind leg.
BOOOOOOM!
It smashed the creature into the ground. Again. BOOM! Again. BOOM!
The situation looked remarkably familiar. Michael's expression became strange. Perhaps Beginning simply enjoyed smashing things into the ground.
However, despite Michael's command, Beginning wasn't completely abandoning the advantage granted by its Law. That was something Michael also agreed with. Abandoning it entirely would have been foolish. Michael had merely changed the degree.
Attacks that posed genuine danger were avoided. Attacks that would cause excessive damage were blocked. But roughly seventy percent of the wolf's ordinary attacks, Beginning simply absorbed.
BANG!
A claw struck its ribs. Beginning punched the wolf. BOOM! The wolf's tail smashed into Beginning's leg. Beginning grabbed the tail. CRACK! The wolf bit into Beginning's forearm. Beginning drove its knee into the creature's stomach.
BOOOOOOM!
Every injury Beginning received gradually accumulated. Cuts. Fractures. Torn flesh. And with every injury, its aura slowly, steadily grew.
However, the transformation wasn't explosive yet, as Beginning wasn't desperately seeking death.
Michael watched Beginning for a few more breaths before finally pulling his attention away to the much larger battlefield.
At first glance, it was an absolute mess. Mountains continuously collapsed. Ancient trees were torn apart. Flames, poison, lightning, ice, and dozens of other strange abilities erupted in every direction.
One could hardly find an untouched section of land anymore, and this was even after many had confined themselves within the domains of opposing creatures.
Michael silently observed for several seconds. Then his expression gradually became strange.
"…Have I been too cautious?"
As a result of almost exclusively fighting stronger opponents the more powerful he became, Michael had unknowingly started evaluating every situation from the most pessimistic angle possible.
But now, looking at the battlefield beneath him, he couldn't help but wonder if his caution had gradually begun turning into underestimating himself.
