Chapter 1143: All Out [1]
Chapter 1143: All Out [1]
It wasn't that Michael had failed to consider the possibility of an attack. If he had, Aunt Mia and Lily would still have been inside the apartment.
The moment he returned to Aurora, Michael had already begun preparing for the worst.
Michael had expected trouble. What he had not expected was for that trouble to arrive so soon.
Barely two hours had passed since he returned from the Origin Battlefield.
Two hours.
Every awakener throughout the universe had only recently been expelled from that mysterious place.
Even if the news concerning the Universal Cornerstone had already spread beyond control, Michael had assumed that the major forces of other realms would require at least some time to gather information, prepare their people, and travel toward Aurora. Perhaps a few days. At worst, several hours. He certainly hadn't expected someone to launch an attack today.
More importantly, he had never expected the first attacker to come from Aurora's demonic supernaturals. That possibility had barely entered his calculations.
Director Lin and General Caelum were equally confused.
Several months ago, Aurora had launched a large-scale campaign against the demonic supernatural factions.
The conflict had spread across several regions and hidden realms. Countless demonic supernaturals had died. Numerous strongholds had been destroyed.
Even several of their most powerful figures had either been killed or severely injured.
Although the Federation and academies had failed to completely eliminate them, everyone had agreed that the demonic factions had suffered enough damage to remain hidden for several years. They should have been licking their wounds.
Yet one of them had now appeared openly above a major city. Not merely a common member, but a Demigod.
The crimson formation above the city continued expanding.
Scarlet light flowed between the runes like blood through veins, gradually forming a massive circular structure that covered the clouds.
The pressure descending from it became heavier by the second.
Buildings throughout the district groaned. Glass shattered. Streetlights bent under an invisible force.
The apartment's defensive formation activated automatically. Thin layers of translucent light spread across the walls and ceiling, but they flickered violently almost as soon as they appeared.
Michael's anger deepened.
His formation had never been intended to resist a Demigod. Its greatest purpose was detection. Under the direct pressure of the figure above, its defensive functions had long approached their limit.
However, Michael was not afraid.
He had failed to anticipate that an attack would come so soon, but that did not mean he had failed to prepare for one.
Before his visitors had even arrived, Michael had already begun arranging several contingencies throughout the city.
The moment the Demigod revealed herself above Aurora, a silent command spread through the spiritual connection binding him to his undead.
Across different districts, inside restaurants, near shopping centers, on rooftops, beside roads, within parks and public squares, figures who had previously appeared completely ordinary suddenly stopped whatever they were doing.
There were nearly a thousand of them. Men. Women. Young. Old. Tall. Short. Some wore formal clothing. Others wore casual shirts, jackets, or simple work uniforms.
To the ordinary people around them, they had seemed no different from any other residents of the city.
Until all of them raised their heads at the same time.
Emerald-green eyes reflected the crimson formation covering the heavens.
Then every single one raised a hand. Magic power erupted.
BOOM!
The city shook once again. Hundreds of different attacks were launched into the sky. Some were straightforward. Others twisted through the air, changing direction as they locked onto the presence above.
A thousand Rank Four auras erupted almost simultaneously.
The sky brightened. For a brief moment, the crimson formation was completely drowned beneath a sea of colors.
Every supernatural watching from within the city froze.
General Caelum stared through the shaking ceiling. Not far from him, Director Lin's eyes widened as well while Teacher Brian and Instructor Yara were left just as speechless.
Even the Demigod above seemed to pause.
No one had expected an attack to come from below. Certainly not one of this scale. One moment, the streets had appeared ordinary. The next, nearly a thousand powerful existences had revealed themselves throughout the city.
The combined pressure of their attacks tore apart the lingering clouds. The crimson formation trembled violently as countless attacks slammed into it.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Explosions spread across the heavens. Scarlet runes shattered. Several sections of the formation dimmed under the bombardment. The woman's oppressive aura flickered for the first time.
This was Michael's preparation.
He had not specifically prepared to fight a Demigod. Such an opponent had never been part of his immediate expectations.
What he had prepared for was the possibility of several powerful Rank Four experts arriving together.
If outsiders entered Aurora intending to capture him, threaten his family, or seize the Universal Cornerstone, Michael had no intention of allowing them to surround him first.
Instead, he would surround them. Then beat them into submission before they had the opportunity to act.
The undead scattered throughout the city had been concealed before the Federation representatives arrived.
Michael's original plan had been simple.
Observe every powerful visitor who approached and determine their intentions.
If they came peacefully, there would be no conflict. If they came with hostility, the entire city would become a battlefield prepared in his favor.
The only flaw was that the enemy who appeared had surpassed the level he had prepared for.
Even so, a thousand Rank Four undead were not insignificant. Even a Demigod could not completely ignore their combined assault.
Michael slowly rose from his seat. His expression remained cold, but there was no fear in his eyes.
The realization he had gained within the Origin Battlefield had changed him. His caution had not disappeared. He would never become completely reckless.
He still had too much to care about and too much to hide. But he was no longer willing to conceal every card he possessed merely because others might feel threatened by it or target him.
