Chapter 1169: Evolution Candidate [2]
Chapter 1169: Evolution Candidate [2]
Michael raised a hand.
A dark tattoo suddenly appeared upon his forearm, illuminated with faint grey light. Ashes poured from the mark like an endless river before gathering several meters away.
The ashes gradually condensed. Within moments, the humanoid form became complete.
Standing before Michael was a tall young man appearing to be in his mid-twenties.
His long black hair flowed freely behind him, matching a pair of calm green eyes that carried an unusual gentleness despite his nature.
His features were refined, almost elf-like, while faint dark-green markings resembling vines spread beneath the skin around his neck before slowly fading with time.
The moment his body completely materialized, he immediately lowered himself onto one knee.
"Master."
Michael gave a slight nod.
"Stand."
Lucky obeyed without hesitation.
Unlike Lily's boundless enthusiasm, Beginning's silent brutality, or Jester's unsettling composure, Lucky possessed an almost tranquil temperament.
Yet the moment Lucky fully observed his surroundings, the peaceful expression on his face slowly disappeared and became slightly cold.
This wasn't directed at Michael, but at the surrounding environment.
"…"
Michael noticed it immediately.
One would expect an undead to feel comfortable within a place overflowing with death and darkness.
After all, this region inside the Mausoleum possessed one of the highest concentrations of dark elemental energy available.
Yet instead, Lucky looked uncomfortable.
Michael quietly smiled. Without another word, he connected his consciousness to the Mausoleum itself. Space rippled.
The surrounding rocky landscape instantly blurred before both of their figures disappeared.
The next moment, warm aurora light filtered through towering trees. A gentle breeze carried the scent of flowers.
Countless leaves rustled overhead while birds sang somewhere in the distance. A vibrant forest stretched endlessly before them.
The moment Lucky stepped onto the soft grass, his entire body visibly relaxed. The stiffness vanished. He slowly closed his eyes.
Michael found the contrast rather jarring. An undead, feeling more comfortable inside a living forest than a realm overflowing with death.
He quietly chuckled.
"Perhaps." He looked at Lucky before continuing. "You're only a monster. Not a villain."
Lucky opened his eyes.
"I do not understand."
Michael smiled.
"You don't need to."
To think that even after a year, and as a Rank Four undead, Lucky would still have its strange obsession with plants and grass.
It had only started becoming manageable once Michael engraved Lucky, giving it no choice but to remain in a passive state.
The same went for Lily. Of course, whenever he had free time he released both of them to do as they wished.
If he wasn't mistaken, Lucky seemed to have even developed more refined tastes, as it now appeared to enjoy tasting fruit. Well, it didn't have a true sense of taste, so it was more accurate to say it enjoyed the sensation.
Though given that it didn't feel much of anything unrelated to the soul, perhaps special plants that could actually be perceived were Lucky's true favorites.
For the sake of being practical, since the undead never complained, Michael had simply let it eat as much grass as it liked.
Michael shook the thought from his mind. There would be time to think about Lucky's peculiar nature later. For now, what truly mattered was whether his theory would succeed.
With a thought, a translucent panel that only he could perceive unfolded before his eyes. His gaze immediately landed on the familiar entry.
[Lucky - Undead Dire Wyvern]
Below it, another line quietly appeared.
Proceed with Evolution to Epic Grade ★★★?
To evolve an Epic Grade creature from One Star directly to Three Stars naturally required an astonishing amount of Evolution Points. Seventy-five thousand.
For Michael, it was expensive, but entirely affordable.
Among every creature currently under his command, only two had reached Three-Star Epic Grade. Wisdom and Jester.
The former wasn't an undead but his contracted beast. Jester was the only undead within the legion to have reached that level.
Michael's lips curved slightly. For all of Jester's troublesome personality, there was no denying his worth. With Lucky joining the ranks, the number of Three-Star Epic Grade creatures under him would become three.
Without the slightest hesitation, Michael made his choice. The number of Evolution Points within his panel instantly decreased.
At almost the same moment, a brilliant white light erupted beneath Lucky's feet. The light expanded at an astonishing speed, swallowing his entire figure before forming a perfectly spherical cocoon nearly five meters across.
Michael quietly observed the cocoon for several more moments. The brilliant sphere remained suspended in place, releasing rhythmic pulses.
"…"
After confirming that everything remained normal, Michael slowly turned around.
There was no point standing here any longer. Epic Grade evolutions weren't quick. At fastest, just over two days. At most, just over three. Lucky wouldn't emerge anytime soon.
Of course he could have remained here. The phenomena surrounding Epic Grade evolutions were extraordinarily valuable, capable of aiding one's comprehension considerably.
For someone like Michael, whose greatest bottleneck had gradually shifted toward cultivating a law domain, spending several uninterrupted days watching Lucky evolve would undoubtedly bring considerable benefits.
He silently looked back at the cocoon one last time.
"…A shame."
He simply didn't have that luxury. His schedule had become completely packed.
The Origin Battlefield would reopen soon, and the Netherworld demanded immediate attention because of the Demigod corpse. Even thinking about it caused a slight headache.
Michael let out a quiet sigh.
"I haven't even had the chance to use that treasure yet."
His thoughts drifted toward the Incense of Enlightenment.
Ordinarily, if the Universal Cornerstone situation hadn't happened, Michael would have immediately entered secluded cultivation the moment he obtained it.
Unfortunately, everything after acquiring it had unfolded far too quickly.
Michael rubbed the bridge of his nose.
"…It really never stops."
His consciousness connected to the Mausoleum once more. The surrounding forest gradually distorted before his figure disappeared without a trace.
Silence returned.
Only the enormous cocoon remained beneath the towering trees.
Far away, within another region of the Mausoleum, Michael reappeared on a mountain range where a gigantic creature lay.
