Chapter 1187: You’re The Strangest
Chapter 1187: You’re The Strangest
RUN!
The moment Michael confirmed the aura, Wisdom State activated instantly. His Law surged through his body while the surrounding space subtly distorted.
At the same time, Michael's connection to Isabella tightened. One thought was all he needed. One thought and he would grab Isabella, tear open space, and get the hell out of there.
He was already preparing to do exactly that.
Then Michael stopped himself.
"…"
His heart continued pounding violently inside his chest. Every instinct screamed at him not to remain casually standing before a Demigod. This wasn't one of his enhanced undead temporarily reaching that level through his abilities. This was a true Demigod. An existence that had naturally crossed that threshold.
His fingers twitched. The spatial fluctuation surrounding him remained ready. If anything changed, anything at all, he would leave immediately.
Yet Michael forced himself to remain where he was. This was because something was missing.
Now that he had cleared his mind, he realized he didn't sense a bit of danger. There was none.
The pressure radiating from the ghost was terrifying. Even while restrained, it felt like an enormous ocean surrounding a small island. Every strand of spiritual energy drifting from her translucent body seemed capable of crushing him.
But there was no killing intent. She was powerful. Extremely powerful. But she did not intend to attack him. At least, not yet.
Michael slowly exhaled. His body remained tense, and Wisdom State stayed active right away. But he didn't teleport.
The ghost continued floating before him. Her silver eyes moved across his face curiously. Then she glanced toward the subtle spatial distortions surrounding him.
Her lips curved upward.
"You were going to run."
Michael's eyelid twitched.
"No."
The woman's smile widened.
"You were."
"…"
Michael said nothing.
Isabella stood several metres behind Michael, completely frozen. Her violet soul flames had contracted into tiny points. Unlike Michael, she possessed none of his extraordinary resistance to spiritual pressure. Even though the ghost wasn't deliberately suppressing her, simply standing near such an existence was enough to make Isabella's bones tremble.
Michael subtly extended his aura around her, shielding her from the worst of it. Only then did Isabella seem capable of moving again.
"Senior…"
Her voice was barely audible.
Michael raised one hand.
"Don't."
She immediately went silent.
His eyes never left the ghost.
The woman tilted her head.
"Senior?"
Her silver gaze shifted toward Isabella. Then back toward Michael.
Her voice did not actually travel through the air. It wasn't spoken language. It was closer to will communicating directly with will. It was the same method Michael and Isabella had used to speak with each other, but the Demigod had intruded on it, allowing her to understand the word Isabella had used.
Michael's expression changed slightly. That was rather impolite.
Of course he only dared to think this, not say it.
The ghost seemed completely unconcerned and drifted closer. Michael's body instinctively tensed again, but he didn't move.
She slowly circled him. Her silver eyes examined him from head to toe as though she had encountered something she couldn't understand.
Michael followed her movements with his perception.
"What?"
The ghost stopped beside him. Then continued floating until she was behind him.
Michael immediately felt a cold pressure against his back.
"…"
She leaned against him. One translucent arm rested lightly over his shoulder while a pale finger reached around and pressed against his cheek.
Michael's eyelid twitched.
The contact was strange. She had no true physical body, yet he could still feel a faint chill wherever she touched him.
Her intention flowed into his mind again.
"But you don't look like me."
Michael paused.
The ghost tilted his face slightly with her finger.
"So why does that little one call you Senior?"
Isabella's violet flames flickered violently. Little one?
Michael glanced toward her.
The Skeleton Chief had lived for more than fifty years in the Netherworld. Being called a little one by someone who looked like a young woman was admittedly strange. Then again, the being behind him was a Demigod. Age couldn't be judged by appearance.
Michael sent back his intention.
"It is a form of respectful address."
The ghost became still.
"Respect?"
"Toward someone believed to be older, stronger, or more experienced."
She looked toward Isabella. Then back at Michael.
"She thinks you're older?"
"…Probably."
The ghost's finger remained against his cheek.
"But you aren't old."
Michael's eyebrow rose.
"You can tell?"
"Yes."
The answer came instantly.
Michael became slightly more alert. Thanks to his strength, many tended to overestimate his age. Though there were a few ways to verify one's age, the most accurate one was soul age.
Was it that this ghost could bypass his natural defenses and catch a glimpse of his soul?
As expected of a Demigod.
The ghost suddenly moved around him again until she floated directly in front of his face, though this time she left more than a few inches between them.
"You are young."
Michael said nothing.
The ghost continued to study him.
"So young but so strong."
Her gaze drifted toward the energy naturally gathering around Michael.
"Strange too. Your nature is not from this place, but even among those I've seen come here, you're the strangest by far."
Michael's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Others?"
The ghost tilted her head.
"Others like me?"
He clarified through his will.
"Others who weren't born in this place."
Understanding immediately reached her.
The ghost nodded.
"Yes."
Michael's interest sharpened.
"Many?"
"Some."
"Humans?"
She paused. Then shook her head.
"Some looked like you. Some did not."
Her silver eyes drifted upward as though searching through old memories.
"Some were tall."
Her hand rose above Michael's head.
"Some were small."
It dropped close to the ground.
"Some had more arms. Some had tails. Some had scales. Some had skin like stone. Some were bright. Some were…"
Michael listened silently. That wasn't particularly surprising. The Netherworld clearly wasn't connected to a singular realm. Anyone capable and daring could enter.
The ghost's gaze returned to him.
"But you are the strangest."
