Warning: Evolution Energy Disruption Level Detected.
Local spatial integrity destabilized. Recommendation: Vacate the area immediately.
Michael’s breath caught.
"Laws?"
What was that?
And even worse— A disruption?
He didn’t need the system to tell him twice.
The area around him was beginning to warp beyond recognition. The grass was wilting. Trees had either split in half or grown wild and twisted from the surge. Mana was bleeding from the air itself like invisible smoke.
This place...
It couldn’t contain them anymore.
With a grim look, Michael immediately unsummoned all five.
The moment they vanished, silence returned—but not peace.
The energy lingered like smoke after a fire. The ground bore jagged black scars. Trees leaned at unnatural angles. Birds no longer chirped. The forest felt... hollow.
Dead.
Michael turned and ran.
He didn’t even bother with the intense surge of energy coursing through his body.
If anything he tried his best to avoid leaciky trails while actively controlling his strength.
He ran as fast and far as he could, without even looking back. One step taking him several distance.
Because there was no way this had gone unnoticed.
That energy wave?
Anyone even remotely sensitive to mana within fifty kilometers would’ve felt it. Possibly more.
And if any powerful supernatural had been nearby, they’d definitely come to investigate.
He wasn’t ready to answer questions about questions he didn’t even know anything about.
So he ran.
Branches tore past him. He leapt over roots, dodged low-hanging limbs, and didn’t stop until he reached the edge of a steep ravine nearly an hour later.
There, only then, did Michael finally slow down—hands on his knees, panting.
"...That," he breathed, "was insane."
However, a faint smile tugged at his lips.
Terrifying?
Absolutely.
But also...
This was power.
Real power.
And it was also his.
Michael waited in his location for a while before blurring from his spot.
He traced his way back to Thornvale.
Michael took no risks.
Even after the energy had faded, he remained hidden for nearly an hour, carefully tracing a long arc around Thornvale’s outer perimeter. It was better to waste time than to walk straight into an ambush—or worse, an investigation team. But fortunately, the return trip was uneventful.
By the time he made it back to his manor, the skies were still dark. Not quite morning, but past the midnight hour.
Michael moved like a shadow.
He entered the manor from the eastern side.
Finally, he reached his study.
Michael opened the heavy door and stepped inside.
He eased into the leather chair behind his desk and let out a long breath.
He was safe.
For now.
Michael rested his forearms on the desk, closing his eyes. The evolution process had drained him more than he thought—not physically, but mentally. Seeing five undead simultaneously take a step into an unknown territory... it had shaken him.
And excited him.
His lips curled faintly. The feeling of power from before still lingered in his bones.
He was just about to investigate more when—
Knock. Knock.
A sharp, firm knock came from the study door.
Michael’s eyes snapped open.
His expression didn’t change, but his mind raced.
"My lord, can I come in?"
Rohan.
Michael resisted the urge to groan.
If Thornvale had felt even a sliver of what happened... Rohan would definitely investigate.
Still, unless he had to, Michael wasn’t planning to admit anything.
He cleared his throat and smoothed his features into a calm, composed expression. His voice was steady when he spoke.
"Enter."
The door opened, and Rohan stepped in.
He wasn’t in armor—just a loose black tunic and worn boots. His hair was slightly damp, probably from washing off training sweat. But his eyes... sharp, alert, narrowed with suspicion.
"My lord," he greeted with a short bow, though his gaze lingered too long on Michael’s face.
"Captain," Michael said smoothly. "You’re up late."
Rohan stepped inside and closed the door behind him.
"I could say the same to you," he said quietly, "...but I assume you already know why I’m here."
Michael tilted his head just slightly, as if in polite curiosity.
"Oh?"
Rohan studied him for a moment longer before speaking again.
"Roughly an hour ago," he began, "a massive pulse of mana surged from the southern woods. No visual cues—just pressure. Deep pressure. The kind that makes even a sleeping beast wake in fear."
He stepped closer.
"The type of pressure that shouldn’t exist in this region."
Michael remained quiet.
He tapped a finger gently against the armrest, thoughtful.
"I see," he said finally. "Troubling."
Rohan’s brow twitched. "You have no idea what caused it?"
Michael met his gaze evenly.
"I have some guesses," he said calmly. "But no proof. Not yet. I assume you’re organizing a team?"
Rohan gave a grim nod. "Already did. Sent scouts the moment the wave hit. They’re skilled, but..."
He trailed off, his expression hardening.
"...that wasn’t something my men—or any patrol—could handle."
Michael’s fingers paused mid-tap.
Rohan continued. "If you truly don’t know what happened, Viscount Mic... then with all due respect, I suggest we inform the Duke. Whatever caused that originated from the Everlong Forest. That alone makes it a territory issue beyond our capacity."
Michael’s calm façade nearly cracked.
Report to the Duke?
The last thing he needed was the capital’s attention descending upon him.
Michael kept his tone measured.
"I understand your concern," he said. "And if this disturbance continues or worsens, I’ll take it to the Duke personally. But until we have more concrete information, I’d rather not provoke unnecessary alarm."
Rohan’s brows knit. "My lord, I don’t mean to question you, but with all due respect... that was alarming."
Michael nodded slowly. "I don’t disagree."
Rohan hesitated, then finally gave a reluctant nod. "I trust your judgment... for now. But I’ll keep the watch increased."
"What is the situation with Thornvale?"
"Animals were panicking. Livestock broms from pens. A few unconscious people. No casualties, thank the gods, but..." Rohan looked serious. "That wave was felt, my lord. Deeply. I’ve never seen anywhere this quiet."
