Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 614: Dorm

Chapter 614: Dorm

The door slid open.

Inside, the office was tidy and understated.

Seated behind a curved desk was a woman in her thirties

Her posture was immaculate, her long dark hair tied into a single braid, and a faint aura of pressure hung around her.

Before the woman could even look up properly, Lira spoke first, smiling brightly.

"Teacher Yara! I brought the early arrival I mentioned I received a notification from above earlier — it’s actually one from the top ten ranking."

The instructor’s eyes lifted. "Lira, we’ve discussed—"

But she froze mid-sentence when Lira continued, "Michael Norman."

For a heartbeat, silence blanketed the room. Then, Yara’s previously stern expression softened almost instantly.

It wasn’t out of fear but recognition.

As a Rank 3 Awakener, Yara Velin had long since shed the insecurities that plagued most people. Those at her level were not easily intimidated — they had survived too much, seen too many faces of power. But even so, the young man standing before her stirred something else entirely.

Her gaze lingered briefly on him. She had heard the stories, but seeing him in person...

So the rumors weren’t exaggerated after all.

For some reason, she hadn’t been able to view the full footage of the unified exam — the access was restricted to instructors of her rank.

And now that she was seeing him up close, her instincts screamed a truth she couldn’t deny — despite being a rank below her, this young man’s mana density and presence were not weaker.

The realization sent a quiet shiver down her spine.

Her stern tone softened as she stood up, offering a small, respectful nod. "Michael Norman," she said with a faint smile. "I’ve been meaning to meet you. I’m Instructor Yara Velin, I’ll be overseeing the administrative process for the arrivals this week."

Michael returned the nod calmly. "Nice to meet you, Instructor."

Her eyes glinted faintly. "Likewise. If you have any questions relating to the academy— you can come to me directly."

Her tone was polite but carried an undertone of genuine interest. Instructors didn’t often extend personal offers like that unless the student was someone worth watching.

Instructor Yara then went on to bring a set of files from other messy ones.

"These are separated files," she explained, setting three aside and keeping one. "For students whose entrance metrics or field records trip certain flags—combat efficacy, anomaly scores, unique constitutions—their dossiers are mirrored into a priority queue." Her eyes lifted, the hint of a smile there. "Yours has been sitting on top since the exam."

She tapped the slate; it unfolded into a thin, translucent sheet and projected a neat form to chest height.

"First, realm regulations. Sign at the end."

Michael skimmed through it and when he found no issue, he signed, and the sheet slid to the next document.

"Dorm assignment and... ," Yara said, handing him a second file.

Then a third.

A fourth

And lastly a fifth.

Yara closed the file and withdrew a compact case the size of a card wallet and offered it to him.

Inside lay a watch.𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Your Edgeband," Yara said.

Michael turned it over in his palm. Feather-light. When his thumb brushed the edge, a panel appeared.

"It’s your identity, clearance, and wallet in here," Yara continued. "Comms, schedules, realm map, door access and so on. If you’re ever in real trouble, long-press both edges—emergency recall ping to the nearest checkpoint."

Yara then spoke again. "Show him to his quarters."

Lira gestured for Michael to follow. "This way."

They exited the administration hall and stepped onto a broad walkway.

As they walked, Lira began to speak again.

"There are three types of dorms in each year. The standard four-sitter, the two-sitter for upper-rankers or recommended students, and the one-sitter — reserved for the top student of each year."

She flashed him a grin. "Which, right now, happens to be you."

Michael raised an eyebrow slightly, but said nothing. His hands rested loosely in his pockets.

"There are ten one-sitter dorms in total," Lira continued. "One for each year group. They’re massive — almost like private apartments. But that’s not all. Every top-ranked student receives a monthly stipend of academy credits and a bundle of additional cultivation resources. You’ll get your first set automatically within the next twenty-four hours."

She pointed to his wrist. "You can check your balance or see what the academy store offers with your Edgeband later. It’ll list everything — pills, crafting materials, enchantment scrolls, and so on."

Michael nodded silently, his expression calm. Inwardly, however, he was intrigued. The academy was clearly more structured.

The pair continued down a narrow lane that opened into a small plaza surrounded by low, modern-looking buildings.

Lira’s steps grew lighter the closer they got to the end of the plaza. Her voice carried a note of excitement that made Michael glance at her curiously.

"This area," she said, gesturing ahead, "is where the private villas are."

Michael slowed slightly. "Villas?"

"Mm." Her grin widened. "The one-sitter dorms. Each one’s basically its own villa — ten in total, one for the top student of every year. You’ll be the new owner of the newly vacated villa."

As they walked, the scenery shifted. The buildings around them thinned out, replaced by a row of sleek residences lined in a semi circle. Unlike the dorm complexes before, these villas stood apart — each enclosed by transparent energy barriers that shimmered faintly like water under starlight.

Michael stopped for a moment, his eyes narrowing slightly. The mana density in the air here was noticeably higher.

Lira looked back, catching his reaction, and laughed lightly. "You feel it too, right? The density here is said to be about one and a half times higher than the normal dorm zones."

Her excitement only grew as they approached the villas. "Can you believe it?" she said, practically bouncing on her heels. "I’ve been in this academy for two years, and this might be my first time entering one of this villa.

Michael gave her a questioning look. "You’ve never been here before?"

"Not once." Lira’s eyes gleamed as she turned back toward the line of villas. "The top one area is restricted. Even staff and instructors don’t wander in without reason. But since I’m escorting you, I finally get to see what it looks like inside." She grinned, clearly amused at her own luck. "So, thank you for that."

Michael’s lips twitched faintly. "I’m glad I could be of help."
