Chapter 708: Close to Death Again [1]
Though he looked calm on the success, calming even those around him, Michael wasn’t the same on the inside.
From what he could see and what his undead were telling him he could tell that though the were able to give the old man a good hit, he was actually still very strong and to be honest hadn’t really gone out yet.
This left Michael a bit frustrated.
One reason he found hell attractive was because this was a place were he could effectively level up a good amount of his undead with the strong demons in the lower floor.
If only this fight had happened by when maybe he had already had three undead in level 70, he wouldn’t be this helpless a bit and it wasn’t exactly the scenario where more undead would make it better as they had to be a qualitative strength to make a difference.
However when one thought of the demon incident in the twentieth floor, Michael was eventually going to encounter one problem or another in the end.
However now was not the time to think about this as there was still a great enemy to face.
The old man spoke with a voice that trembled with contained fury.
"Too cocky for my liking," he said. His voice was low, strained, and filled with growing hatred.
His grip tightened on his staff.
"Let me correct that arrogance."
Space twisted around him like boiling glass as he stepped forward. It was not a teleport, nor a spatial step, but a simple stride that bent the air as if the world was forced to move aside for him.
His intention was clear.
He was going to kill Michael.
The shift in the battlefield was immediate.
Ghost dropped from the sky, mandibles screeching open as he hurled himself between Michael and the old man. The four other ants followed, forming a shifting wall of chitin and explosive rage. Beginning thundered forward again, energy pounding through his stone-like veins, fists raised. Lily dragged herself upright despite the gore sliding down her chin and opened her mouth for a familiar attack to which the old man, now aware of such move defended easily against
The soldiers finally understood the situation. The demonic supernaturals who had been watching from the side suddenly lunged forward. They saw the opening.
After seeing the old man’s intentions, They had all been thinking the same thing. If they killed the necromancer then the monsters would collapse. The man who controlled the nightmare creatures had to be the most fragile. He had to be the easiest to kill.
They surged toward Michael.
Varun and Ruel reacted instantly, roaring at the soldiers.
"Hold them back. Keep every one of these bastards away from him."
The soldiers snapped out of their paralysis. A few stepped forward, weapons raised. The demonic supernaturals attacked them with brutal force. The clash erupted in a storm of light and blood.
The old man saw it.
His anger sharpened.
"I want to know who can stop me from killing you today."
His staff rose.
Ghost appeared in front of him with a crack of air. The elder raised two fingers. Space froze.Ghost was halted for a moment, locked in midair.
The other ants slammed into the invisible wall that protected the old man. Lily charged from the right, bleeding heavily, but still dragging her enormous frame forward with a roar that shook frost from the sky.
Beginning soared upward, flipped his massive body, and crashed down like a falling mountain.
The old man met them.
A twist of his staff bent space.
At rank 3, the more one increasingly grew the more their comprehension of space became. It is said that there was no place in the universe a god couldn’t go to and even demigod as said to be able to enter different planets in a matter of minutes. Though the old man was suppressed, his comprehion of space was still strong enough to do a lot of things.
Though thanks to these necromancer actions he could not escape, they didn’t deminish his fighting ability.
Ghost was sent spiraling away. Another gesture shattered Lily’s footing, sending her skidding sideways. Beginning’s fist struck a curved distortion and rebounded with a shockwave that tore open the ground.
Yet for every time they were thrown back, they came again.
The elders barrier cracked. Space flickered around him as he struggled to maintain control.
He glared at Michael then vanished
He vanished.
A blink.
A twist.
His staff appeared a meter from Michael’s throat.
But before he could strike, Michael appeared behind him ten meters away with a spear in his hand that elongated towards the old man..
Phase shift.
However this much wasn’t enough to do anything to the old man as he blocked it but it did make Michael safe for the moment as he dashed away.
The staff was also able to pierce the old man a bit but how much damage it caused was unknown.
As for the others, ever since they knew the old man was targeting Michael they ran to different areas so Michael didn’t have to worry about them and honestly also wasn’t in the situation he could worry abiut anyone.
The old man stared at Michael, chest rising and falling.
The murderous light in his eyes only grew colder.
"Enough," he said quietly.
The word was almost calm, but everyone who heard it felt their hearts clench.
He looked down at his right arm, watched the trembling and the unstable spatial fractures skating across his skin like broken reflections. Then he looked back up at Michael.
"Forcing this," he murmured, "will severely wound my lifespan."
The old man’s lips curved into a thin, humorless smile.
"But it will not kill me. I will have enough years left to look for a solution." His gaze sharpened to a knife point. "You, on the other hand... will die here today."
Michael’s fingers tightened around his spear.
A chill slid down his spine, one that had nothing to do with the frozen plains around them. His instincts screamed.
