Chapter 882: Rank Advancement [1]
Chapter 882: Rank Advancement [1]
At this point Michael could no longer feel a certain gaze on him, meaning the Origin Will was once again gone.
Michael did not mind. Though the times they had interacted could barely be called a thing, Michael had been able to grasp a few things about this being.
Fortunately, for the part that was about to come, the Origin Will was not needed.
"Unique rating?" Michael noticed a new term.
The rewards this time were somewhat like what he had received when he ascended to Rank 2 with a Transcendence rating, except this time they were far better. However, the intensity seemed to be about the same.
"Is this what the Origin Will meant by new standards?" Michael could not help but wonder. Perhaps this unique mission might come up again in the future when he wanted to advance.
Michael excitedly glanced through the other rewards.
For one, the fifteen level ups he would gain after evolving were already worth a good portion of his struggle.
Just fifteen level ups alone could save him many months or even years of slow progress.
One should know that at some point in Rank 3 the amount of experience points required to level up reached dozens of millions. It was easy to see why many awakeners eventually switched to focusing mainly on law cultivation, as it was ironically faster and safer.
This was also the stage where the advantage awakeners had over older, normal cultivators was no longer as large as before.
Truly, just as the Origin Will had said, there was some sort of balance in everything.
Then there were the attribute points, whose importance did not need to be elaborated on.
As for the skill mastery ticket, Michael was quite surprised by this.
Due to the preciousness of the ticket, Michael had been very mindful about using it. He had not expected his caution to benefit him now.
Since the system mentioned an upgrade, then it was surely going to be a better version of the skill tickets he currently possessed.
Then there were the big rewards.
The preciousness of an Epic grade treasure could not be overstated.
Michael only had one, the Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten. Though he mainly used it to store his undead, he never forgot about the other miraculous functions of the coffin, with one even having the ability to bring him back from the dead.
And this was only an Epic grade treasure. Michael never imagined that his advancement this time would give him the opportunity to gain a Legendary grade treasure.
Though it was only a chance, it did not stop Michael from anticipating it excitedly. Hopefully he would get lucky.
As for the other treasures he could not see for some reason, Michael did not believe they would be any worse than the previous ones.
He was excited and worried about what they could be.
He only hoped he did not get a title this time that would make leveling even more difficult. Well, the future missions he would receive would surely be difficult. He just hoped this one was unique and hopefully had nothing to do with the Origin Will like this one.
With nothing more to examine, Michael did not hesitate any longer and chose to advance.
[Do you wish to Advance?]
[Y/N?]
"Yes."
However, after his voice, nothing happened.
The spatial space inside the Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten remained completely silent.
Michael waited.
One second passed.
Then another.
And another.
Yet nothing changed.
The expectation on his face slowly faded as confusion began to creep in.
Michael frowned slightly and instinctively turned his attention inward.
Soon his familiar system interface appeared before him.
His eyes quickly scanned through the information until he found what he was looking for.
[Advancement in Progress]
Michael’s confusion deepened immediately.
Advancement in progress?
That meant the process had already started.
But something felt wrong.
According to everything he had learned from Aurora and the Land of Origin, the moment a Rank Advancement to Rank 3 began, the universe itself would respond.
It was called the universe’s blessing.
A process where one’s body, soul, and power were acknowledged and reshaped by the world itself.
Many descriptions described it as overwhelming.
Some spoke of immense pressure.
Others mentioned powerful energy flooding their bodies.
Some even described hearing faint echoes of the laws themselves.
Yet right now...
Michael felt absolutely nothing.
No pressure.
No energy.
No strange sensation.
Nothing at all.
Michael slowly looked down at his own hands.
He clenched his fingers once.
Then twice.
Still nothing.
"...That’s strange."
A small crease appeared between his brows.
His mind immediately began analyzing the situation.
Could it be because he was inside the spatial dimension of the Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten?
The thought appeared quickly.
But just as quickly, Michael dismissed it.
That explanation did not make sense.
Every record he had read about this advancement never mentioned location being a factor. Wherever one advanced in a city, at least when advancing to Rank 3, the universe’s blessing would still arrive.
It was not something that could be blocked so easily.
At least that was what all the sources he had studied claimed.
Michael slowly exhaled.
His eyes moved back toward the floating system interface.
[Advancement in Progress]
The words remained unchanged.
But the expected phenomenon still had not appeared.
Michael leaned back slightly while sitting cross legged among his undead legion.
The silence around him felt heavier now.
"...Don’t tell me something else is going wrong again."
The thought slipped into his mind before he could stop it.
Considering everything that had already happened today, Michael would not have been surprised if something unusual occurred again.
More time passed.
Five seconds.
Ten.
Then nearly a full minute.
Still nothing happened.
The silence inside the spatial dimension of the Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten became increasingly uncomfortable.
Michael’s brows slowly tightened.
At first he had assumed the process simply required a moment to begin. But now even he was beginning to feel uneasy.
"...This isn’t normal."
He muttered the words quietly to himself.
The panel still displayed the same message.
[Advancement in Progress]
But aside from that, there were no other changes.
Michael slowly stood up from his cross legged position.
Thousands of undead remained motionless around him.
Their empty gazes silently followed their master.
