Chapter 974: Wisdom [1]
Chapter 974: Wisdom [1]
Since his villa would still take some time to be repaired and restored after the recent destruction, Michael needed another temporary place to stay.
The most important thing was that it needed to be private so he could focus entirely on Wisdom’s evolution.
After finding a quiet alley, Michael summoned his Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten and transferred the materials from his storage space there. After doing this he reached out to his storage ring and brought Wisdom out.
The moment the owl appeared, it immediately became energetic.
Its silver-black wings spread wide as it circled around Michael several times excitedly, leaving behind faint spatial ripples that made it appear illusionary in the air, before finally landing on his shoulder and rubbing its head against his cheek affectionately.
"Masterrr..."
Its voice sounded clearer compared to when they first met, though the childish tone remained extremely obvious.
Ever since advancing to Rank 2 and evolving into a Voidfeather, Wisdom’s intelligence had improved significantly. Compared to before, when it could barely communicate simple thoughts, it could now speak in short sentences properly.
However, at heart it was still a child, one of Michael’s few treasures.
Michael lightly rubbed the owl’s head.
"What is it?"
The moment he asked that, Wisdom immediately began complaining.
"Lonely. Very lonely."
The owl’s feathers drooped slightly.
Michael blinked in surprise.
Lonely?
Wisdom puffed up slightly as though finally finding someone willing to listen to its grievances.
"Master always busy. Always gone."
Michael suddenly felt a tiny bit guilty.
Thinking about it carefully, he really had neglected Wisdom somewhat recently.
Most of his attention had been focused on his stronger undead and the constant dangerous situations around him.
Meanwhile Wisdom spent most of its time either inside the coffin, the storage space, or hidden away for safety.
"You brought people for Wisdom...but they don’t talk."
The owl continued in an aggrieved tone.
By people, Michael immediately knew it was referring to his other undead. Wisdom likely called them people mostly because they were always in their human form.
Wisdom puffed up angrily.
"They do nothing but stand still, and when they don’t stand still they attack each other."
Michael could practically feel the resentment radiating from the owl. As for attacking each other, it was likely the undead training.
Ever since Michael caught Ghost leading a bunch of ants to train with self-made weights, he knew that as his undead grew in strength and intelligence, they started to become their own persons.
Of course this was a stretch, as aside from Jester, most still relied on their instincts, like one certain undead goat of his who was now Lucky’s underling and grass feed provider in exchange for plants.
As for why it didn’t eat its own plants, Michael did not know.
"And Lily scary."
"...."
Michael coughed lightly and laughed a moment after.
Without needing to guess, Lily had probably tried to see what it tasted like but could not eat thanks to his command.
At this point Michael genuinely felt bad for the owl.
Among over four thousand creatures under him, Wisdom was probably the only one emotionally normal enough to actually feel isolated.
Most undead simply obeyed orders mechanically.
The more intelligent ones like Jester, Spartan, Fade, and the others either spent their time cultivating, experimenting, or carrying out tasks.
None of them were exactly ideal companions for what was mentally still a child.
Wisdom rubbed its head against Michael’s cheek again pitifully.
"Master should stay more."
Michael sighed softly.
"I’ll try."
The owl’s eyes immediately brightened slightly.
Then, as though suddenly remembering something, Wisdom puffed up proudly and disappeared from Michael’s shoulder.
A faint spatial ripple spread outward.
The next moment the owl reappeared upside down above Michael’s head.
"Wisdom stronger now too. Prince said Wisdom too weak so master not with him."
Its tone carried obvious pride.
Michael’s lips curved faintly upward.
"Yes. You are."
To be honest, the reason Wisdom had always been so heavily protected was not simply because it was Michael’s pet.
That was only part of it.
The more important reason was because Wisdom was weak while simultaneously possessing abilities far too valuable for its own good.
Its existence alone was absurdly useful to Michael’s law and combat style. Michael knew this wouldn’t change even if he were to advance to Rank 4 tomorrow and Wisdom remained the same.
Of course it was better for Wisdom to be stronger, so the effect of its traits when copied would be stronger as well.
In any case, Wisdom’s nature and value were precisely why Michael had always kept it away from danger.
But Michael believed that once Wisdom stepped fully into Rank 3, things would finally change.
At that level, the owl should possess enough self-protection ability to survive independently even against stronger enemies.
And more importantly, its already remarkable spatial abilities would likely undergo another transformation entirely.
One had to know that even back when Michael himself had only been at the peak of Rank 2, he genuinely could not touch Wisdom if the owl focused entirely on escape. And that version of Michael had already been powerful enough to suppress ordinary Rank 3 supernaturals.
Michael’s eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at the owl flying around happily nearby.
Once Wisdom truly entered Rank 3, just how abnormal would it become?
The thought was honestly difficult to estimate.
The current Wisdom was already a Voidfeather, a three-star Rare creature.
If everything went according to plan today, Michael intended to push it directly into Rank 3.
Wisdom suddenly reappeared beside Michael again and rubbed against his face proudly.
"Wisdom useful."
Michael almost laughed.
"You’ve always been useful."
The owl visibly became happier hearing that.
Then Wisdom tilted its head slightly.
"Master happy?"
"Always."
After satisfying the creature’s clinginess a bit more, Michael finally placed it into the Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten as well.
Back in the Land of Origin, Michael once again stepped into the Everlong Forest.
The familiar atmosphere of ancient wilderness greeted him immediately.
Towering trees stretched endlessly upward while the chirps of birds flowed like music. Compared to Aurora, the mana here felt wilder and more primal.
The moment Wisdom was placed into the coffin space and returned to Michael’s soul, Michael immediately shifted most of his consciousness back into the Land of Origin.
Then, without delay, he retrieved the Damaged Coffin of the Forgotten once more.
