Chapter 985: Death
Chapter 985: Death
Without hesitation, the Rank 4 demonic supernatural extended its power. Darkness spread outward instantly. The surrounding world distorted and space folded.
In its place appeared a strange black world filled with motionless solid water stretching endlessly in all directions like frozen obsidian. This was the Rank 4 demonic supernatural’s domain.
Michael’s gaze calmly swept across the isolated world. Then, with a thought, spatial ripples spread beside him.
The Coffin of the Forgotten opened silently. Wisdom emerged from within.
The owl’s silver-blue eyes blinked several times as it landed quietly nearby. Michael did not hesitate. The moment Wisdom fully appeared, he activated his talent instantly.
BOOM.
The owl’s body trembled violently. Silver-blue feathers exploded outward into the air while enormous amounts of energy surged madly through its body. Bright light began to cover its form.
"Open the domain slightly and let me out," Michael said to the Rank 4 undead beside him.
The Rank 4 demonic supernatural immediately obeyed. A tear silently appeared within the dark world, revealing a scene of the outside world.
Michael stepped through it calmly. The next instant, he returned to the Everlong Forest.
Silence greeted him. The forest looked completely normal. Even the surrounding creatures remained calm.
Only...
Michael slowly raised his gaze toward the air. The mana density nearby had thickened slightly. Not enough for ordinary people to notice, but to someone like him the difference was obvious.
"So this is how domains look from the outside..." Michael muttered softly.
Truthfully speaking, there was almost nothing to see. However, one could still vaguely sense something unusual if their perception was strong enough.
The most accurate description of a domain would probably be a hidden pocket dimension concealed within the second layer of the void. The domain technically still existed within the real world, yet at the same time it was separated from normal reality.
Michael could still clearly sense his connection with both Wisdom and the demonic supernatural undead. However, visually, there was absolutely nothing there.
Michael silently observed the surroundings for several more seconds before mentally communicating with the Rank 4 undead, whose connection with him remained stable throughout.
Soon afterward, space distorted slightly. A crack quietly appeared before him. Michael stepped back inside.
The dark world reappeared around him instantly. Wisdom’s evolution was still ongoing.
Michael observed carefully. Then he left again. Back and forth, several times in succession.
Eventually, Michael finally confirmed it fully. The domain truly could suppress most of the visible phenomenon caused by evolving from Extraordinary grade to Epic grade. At most, the outside world experienced a slight increase in mana density and nothing more.
This result greatly satisfied Michael. However, after staring toward the dark sky above Wisdom for several seconds longer, Michael still shook his head faintly.
The ordinary evolution phenomenon could indeed be hidden. But what about a lightning tribulation? That was another matter entirely.
Such things were not merely manifestations of energy. They were more like laws descending directly upon reality itself. Michael doubted a Rank 4 domain would be enough to completely conceal it.
Still, even this result alone was already enough to pleasantly surprise him.
For the next three days, Michael’s life within the Land of Origin remained relatively uneventful. Most of his attention remained on Wisdom’s ongoing evolution deep within the Everlong Forest.
Based on his previous experiences, evolving from Extraordinary grade to Epic grade usually required around three days to fully stabilize. And just as expected, Wisdom’s evolution still had not finished.
Meanwhile, outside the forest, Thornvale itself remained peaceful. Michael spent most of those days either cultivating, reviewing territory documents, or occasionally checking the condition of the hidden domain through his connection with the Rank 4 demonic supernatural.
However, on the morning of the third day, something finally changed.
Inside the manor office, Michael sat quietly behind his desk while flipping through several reports related to Thornvale’s recent trade routes and mining operations. Then hurried footsteps suddenly approached from outside.
Moments later, two knocks landed against the door.
"My Lord!"
Michael raised his head faintly. "Enter."
The office door immediately opened. The knight captain stepped inside quickly.
However, compared to usual, the man’s expression looked noticeably tense. Almost nervous.
Michael immediately noticed this. "What happened?"
The knight captain swallowed lightly before answering. "A massive flying ship appeared outside Thornvale about a kilometer away."
Michael’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The knight captain continued hurriedly. "An envoy came from it shortly afterward and informed us to prepare for their arrival."
Flying ship. Envoy. At this timing...
Michael instantly understood who had arrived. The empire.
Truthfully speaking, he was not particularly surprised. Princess Priscilla had already indirectly warned him several days ago that the empire would eventually make contact, but three days later was still indeed a bit too fast.
What surprised him instead was the luxurious black box currently being carried in the knight captain’s hands. The box looked extremely expensive. Dark gold patterns covered its surface while faint mana fluctuations leaked from within.
However, Michael’s nose twitched slightly. He smelled blood. Very faint, but unmistakable.
Michael’s gaze immediately sharpened slightly. "That came from the empire as well?"
The knight captain nodded nervously. "Yes, My Lord."
Michael could somewhat understand the man’s nervousness. This was probably the first time in his life he had directly dealt with the empire.
Unfortunately for the knight captain, Michael himself was nowhere near as nervous. If anything, he was more curious about the box.
Michael leaned slightly back in his chair. "Open it."
The knight captain visibly stiffened for a second. "Open... it?"
"Yes."
Michael’s tone remained calm. The knight captain hesitated briefly before finally stepping forward carefully.
Truthfully speaking, he was extremely nervous. The empire sending a mysterious box stained with the smell of blood toward their lord did not exactly feel like a good omen.
Still, under Michael’s gaze, he eventually placed the box carefully atop the desk. Then slowly, he opened it.
The moment the lid lifted fully, a heavy bloody aura instantly spread through the office. The knight captain’s face immediately turned pale.
Inside the box rested a severed human head. The eyes remained wide open. Even in death, traces of terror and disbelief still lingered across the face. Blood had long since dried around the neck.
For several seconds, the office became completely silent.
"Arianne..."
