Evolving My Undead Legion In A Game-Like World

Chapter 997: Return

Chapter 997: Return

Meanwhile, back in Thornvale, Michael patiently waited for news from the capital to return.

This was one of the major limitations of his current method of splitting consciousness. The process itself was still far too crude and incomplete. Giving commands outward was relatively simple, but receiving detailed information back across extremely long distances was far more troublesome than he originally expected.

Right now, the little information Michael possessed mainly came from sensing when one of the split consciousness fragments disappeared completely.

In simpler terms, when one of the bodies died.

Currently, Michael could still faintly sense two remaining fragments of his consciousness. Coincidentally, those two happened to belong to the individuals he had assigned to retrieve Arianne’s corpse.

Those two were also the strongest remaining people from the original flying ship.

Both of them were Rank 2 supernaturals.

As Rank 2 beings, their bodies were naturally capable of enduring far greater amounts of power compared to ordinary mortals. That was one of the main reasons Michael had specifically chosen them for the final task.

Unlike the relatively ordinary servants he had sent to attack the Third Prince, these two could withstand much more stress before collapsing completely.

The ordinary people had mainly functioned as disposable human bombs. At most, their explosions could severely injure or kill weaker opponents, but there was still a clear limit to what they could accomplish.

Rank 2 supernaturals would most likely not survive such explosions if caught directly at the center.

Early Rank 3 supernaturals could also potentially be severely injured or even killed if they were weak enough. However, truly powerful Rank 3 figures could still resist or survive without suffering fatal injuries.

Michael understood this very clearly. That was precisely why he had never truly expected the Third Prince to die from the attack.

Of course, he still hoped luck might favor him.

But he also knew very well that the prince’s surroundings likely contained strong protectors capable of shielding him from fatal danger.

Still, even if the attack failed to kill the prince, Michael considered the result acceptable.

At the very least, he had successfully planted a tracking mark on him.

With that mark in place, no matter where the prince fled, Michael would eventually find him. In fact, part of him actually preferred if the prince returned directly to the empire.

That way, when the time finally came, Michael could settle everything properly in one place.

Given the empire’s earlier attitude and actions, Michael was not naive enough to think they would simply let him go after this. Especially not after he had openly attempted to assassinate one of their princes.

Even if they suspected his boldness stemmed from some powerful background, they would still investigate him thoroughly for the sake of imperial pride and reputation.

And even if they eventually became convinced he truly possessed a terrifying backing, they still would not stop easily.

After all, the Black Serpent Empire itself possessed multiple Rank 4 existences.

Several thoughts rapidly flashed through Michael’s mind one after another.

Though he still lacked detailed information regarding what exactly had happened inside the capital after the attack began, Michael was not particularly anxious.

The truly important matter right now was not the Third Prince.

It was Arianne.

The Third Prince could wait.

He had nowhere left to run anyway.

But Arianne’s soul and corpse could not be delayed indefinitely.

Michael slowly closed his eyes while seated quietly inside the ruined office hall.

Right now, he was simply waiting for two things.

The first was Wisdom’s evolution finally coming to an end.

The second was for the fragments of his consciousness to return with Arianne’s body.

Based on what he could currently sense, both events seemed very close.

And just as expected, roughly half an hour later, four figures suddenly appeared silently inside the ruined office.

The surrounding air distorted briefly before stabilizing again.

Michael slowly opened his eyes.

Two of the figures were naturally familiar.

One was Lyra.

The dark elf silently lowered her head the moment she appeared. Her expression looked somewhat pale, and traces of exhaustion could still be seen on her face.

The other was Ace.

Compared to before, the young man’s aura had clearly become much stronger. His body radiated a faint pressure that no ordinary Rank 1 supernatural could possibly possess anymore.

Beside those two stood another pair of figures with completely vacant expressions.

Their eyes looked lifeless and hollow.

These were naturally the final controlled puppets.

Michael merely glanced toward them calmly.

Then he lightly waved his hand.

The next moment, both puppet figures disappeared instantly from inside the office.

A second later, a deafening explosion echoed from somewhere far outside Thornvale.

BOOOOOOM!!!

Even from this distance, everyone inside Thornvale could see a massive mushroom cloud rising toward the sky far away in the distance.

Michael did not even bother paying attention to it afterward.

Instead, his gaze focused fully toward the remaining figures before him.

Or more accurately...

The people they were carrying.

Currently, both Ace and Lyra carried someone.

In Lyra’s arms was a dirty, headless corpse.

The body was stained with blood and dirt. One of the arms was also bent unnaturally.

Even so, Michael recognized her instantly.

Arianne.

Meanwhile, on Ace’s back rested an unconscious old man covered in injuries.

Duke Evermoon.

Though Michael had not expected the old man to still be alive, seeing that he was at least still breathing could already count as good news.

However, the duke was obviously not in a good state at all.

Yes, Michael had indeed sent the two stronger puppets to retrieve Arianne’s corpse and rescue the duke. However, for additional safety, he had also sent both Ace and Lyra afterward.

One could somewhat ignore Lyra.

Although Michael had not invested heavily into her over the past few months compared to the others, he still possessed more than enough resources to successfully push her into Rank 2.

But Ace was different.

Ace was one of the very first humans reborn through Michael’s blood.

The changes within his body had already long surpassed ordinary humans.

Combined with the cultivation methods, resources, bloodline enhancement, and techniques Michael personally provided him, Ace’s growth speed became extremely terrifying.

In only a few short months, he had not only entered Rank 2 successfully, but had already progressed considerably within the realm itself.

At this point, he was already approaching the middle stages of Rank 2.
