Chapter 521: Failed Scheme?
Chapter 521: Failed Scheme?
"Whoa, that is one amazing bridge ahead. Even though it's only a game, people are amazing to be able to build something like this"
"Well, they must have employed magic during its construction, but we still can't deny the brilliant mind behind this"
Storm Moonlight marveled at the bridge connecting the town from the isolated castle on the island in the middle of the lagoon.
"Greetings Sir! Lady Amelia is already expecting your presence"
One of the soldiers stationed at the bridge outpost immediately stepped forward and respectfully greeted her the moment the two women arrived at the outpost.
"She's with me. I can vouch for her"
Ripley received their greetings with a nod and quickly clarified the status of her companion, knowing that unauthorized people would still be barred even if they are with an Official Knight like her.
The soldier in charge of the outpost scrutinized Storm Moonlight's face like he was trying to imprint her appearance deep into his mind.
"Apologies, but she'd still won't be able to enter the main residence and can only stay in the receiving area, unless someone from Baron family request her presence"
Moments later, the soldier finally took his eyes off Storm Moonlight and turned his attention back to Ripley and made some clarification on how she will be received later.
"Noted"
Ripley nodded and gave a brief reply.
"Lower the bridge!"
The leading soldier yelled and the moment he yelled those words, one of the soldiers standing on the watchtower connected to the outpost picked up a blue flag and started waving it in the air.
Rumble! Rumble!
The soldiers stationed on a large circular space on the side of the said bridge spotted the flag and immediately went and operated the lever of the drawbridge, producing a rumbling sound as the bridge slowly lowered itself.
Thud!
"Let's go!"
Ripley and Storm Moonlight made haste and quickly galloped past the drawbridge before it once again slowly rose up, as the path connecting to the castle was once again broken.
"Whoa, those two were players, right?"
"Yeah, this is my first time seeing players being invited into the castle"
"Must be something special that only players can accomplish. After all, Baron Novaria is among the most powerful and wealthiest in the Northern Regions. I wonder what problems he has that he had to employ players"
Players who saw the spectacle gossip among themselves and were amazed at the sight since as mentioned earlier, the Novaria Family is quite influential even rivaling some of the Counts and Marquis families in the Empire.
"No need to keep guessing, the player leading the way earlier was a Knight and a member of the Knights of the Blue Order"
A player who had been quietly listening to the chatter around him suddenly uttered those words out of the blue and every player who heard him quickly stopped talking and turned to look at him.
"How do you know that?" One of the players raised the same question that everyone wanted to ask.
The player in question, with two longswords strapped on his back, calmly bit on the skewered meat he bought earlier and replied, "I've seen them before, they were Ripley and Storm Moonlight from the infamous assassin guild, The Revenants. So it's no surprise that another member of theirs became a noble, a half noble to be precise"
"What?!"
"No freaking way?!"
Every player who heard him couldn't help but exclaim when they heard his words, startling the nearby residents around them that they quickly left the scene in haste. Which unfortunately also attracted the nearby guards whose attention was now on them, and started watching them like hawks!
"Control yourselves idiots! The guards are looking! I don't want to be sent to jail because of you lot!" The player who was sharing the information quickly reprimanded them when he immediately noticed the guards had turned their attention to them, and it sent shivers down his spine as the soldiers of this town are known for their strict crackdown on people who cause public disturbances.
The players quickly collected themselves since every player who started or discovered this town has at least experienced just how bad it is to be sent to jail and stay there, and for a week just for a minor misdemeanor!
"I entered the town at the same time as them and followed them all the way here" the player answered.
The gossiping players looked at each other trying to read the expressions on their faces before one of them opened her mouth and said, "Should we follow them and see what they're going to do after they leave the Lord's mansion?"
"I'm in since I also need some great content to upload to my channel"
"Me too, I'm slowly losing subscribers because I'm only posting mediocre contents lately!"
'What the heck? These players are streamers?!'
The player obviously had a purpose when he shared those information, but he became dumbfounded when he heard the conservation taking place among the players around him.
Streamers, they are players that are in between casual and hardcore players.
Most of them mostly play for the content or for the lore of the game, which makes a lot of them to be players with mediocre abilities since most of their demographics are lifestyle players.
Some are even worse than casual players.
'This…is this a guild for streamers?' the player thought with helplessness.
He was already concocting a scheme earlier, that's why he had purposely revealed such information to them, and that was to steal or disrupt whatever Quest that Storm Moonlight and Ripley have received, but the plan hadn't even taken off and he can already see it failing before it even started!
'So be it, I'll just use them as cannon fodders then. Though I didn't expect that I would actually stumble upon members of the Revenant Guild here of all places. The Guildmaster would be delighted when he hears about this' with that thought in mind, the said player finally remembered to inform his superior and immediately contacted him.
[So you're saying you saw Storm Moonlight and Ripley in your location?]
[Yes sir. I'm planning to follow them and see if I can disrupt their activity with a group of people I gathered sir] the player enthusiastically answered.
"..."
[Pretend that you didn't see them and leave them alone]
[But sir! These people are our enemies, wouldn't it be a good idea to interfere in whatever they are planning on doing next?!]
There was a moment of silence before his superior sent him a reply that quickly agitated him that he started pressing on the holographic keyboard aggressively!
[If you can confidently state that you and your ragtag group is better than our guild, then I'll allow you to do as you please]
"I.."
His guildmaster's reply petrified him, and only did he remember that those two women were exactly the ones who assassinated his guildmaster once under tight security and even managed to flee while under heavy besiegement.
[I apologize, guildmaster. My ambition to quickly be promoted had blinded my judgment of my current situation] the player immediately apologized when he realized the blunder he made.
[It's good to be ambitious, but you also need to be level headed at all times. Now, give me a report on your progress with the Baron]
[Yes sir, right now…]
