Bai Yuqin’s body suddenly stiffened when she heard Bai Yiyi’s altered voice.

Her hand was grabbed by Bai Yiyi, yet she held on tightly, unwilling to let go, “Yiyi, you need to leave quickly.”

“No, you’re coming with me to G City to get checked at the hospital.” Bai Yiyi’s voice was stubborn, leaving no room for refusal.

She took a step out and closed the door behind her with a reverse grip.

Gu Kai’s gaze swept over her empty hands, a touch of puzzlement crossing his eyes, his narrow eyes narrowing slightly, “You’re not bringing any luggage?”

Bai Yiyi stepped forward.

Even in the dim light of dawn, she still looked at Gu Kai politely, speaking softly, “My mom was just coughing up blood. I want to take her to G City for a check-up. If you’re willing to have her go with us, I’ll go with you. If not, I’ll take her by bus after sunrise.”

Once Bai Yiyi finished speaking, her heart unexpectedly calmed down.

At worst, she would be rejected.

Earlier, after Gu Kai saw the photo of Fu Jingyi in her living room, he turned and left the room. Bai Yiyi knew he was in a bad mood.

Now, asking him to take her mom back to G City with them, she really had no confidence he would agree.

After saying this, she turned to go back into the courtyard.

Behind her, Gu Kai suddenly threw away the half-smoked cigarette and grabbed Bai Yiyi’s wrist.

Bai Yiyi, pulled by him, was forced to turn back, raising her eyes to meet his deep, cold gaze. She felt a constriction in her chest, pursed her lips, and remained silent.

“Bai Yiyi, did you think I’d come to pick you up overnight only to go back alone?”

Gu Kai’s voice, repressed with anger, was low and husky as it struck Bai Yiyi’s ears. Her eyes widened in surprise.

“I can’t treat your mom as I did before, but I won’t be so cold-hearted to forbid you from taking her when she’s sick.”

Looking at Gu Kai’s cold, stern features, she unconsciously called out his name.

Bai Yiyi sincerely expressed her gratitude.

She was filled with gratitude toward Gu Kai, even though he was doing it for her, to try to accept her mother, but his willingness to take this step made her very moved.

He released Bai Yiyi’s hand, took two steps forward, pushed open the gate, and walked into the courtyard ahead of Bai Yiyi.
