Chapter 1430: 1429 Ah Mu and I have no problem.

Chapter 1430: 1429 Ah Mu and I have no problem.

“What does ‘let nature take its course’ mean?”

Mom An frowned slightly, her demeanor exuding authority.

Dad An stood up and left a sentence behind: “Linlin, once you’re done talking with your mom, come find me in the study.”

After saying that, he walked out of the living room and headed upstairs.

Only Mom An and An Lin were left in the living room. Mom An had no intention of letting An Lin off the hook easily. She stopped calling her “Linlin” and switched to her usual tone, “An Lin, you’ve been married to Ah Mu for a few months now. If you weren’t using birth control, how could you not be pregnant by now?”

“Mom, who says you can automatically have a child right after getting married?”

“If not, have you two gone for a checkup? I forgot to make you undergo premarital health screening when you got your marriage certificate.”

“My dear mom, do you wish for me to be unhealthy or for Ah Mu to be unhealthy? Like I said, we just want to let things happen naturally. It’s not birth control, and it’s definitely not a health issue.”

An Lin set her salad on the coffee table, then looked at Mom An seriously. “You really don’t need to worry about me and Ah Mu. To be honest, I think you should encourage Dad to retire early and go out with you to enjoy life.”

“You think retiring is as simple as deciding to retire? It’s not that easy.”

This time, Mom An unexpectedly had her focus successfully shifted by An Lin. She sighed and said, “Given the recent events, until the storm has settled, your dad can’t even think about retiring.”

“Mom, has Gao Yuwen ever come to our house to talk to you and Dad?”

“No.”

Mom An shook her head, gathered her thoughts, and continued, “Linlin, I’ll trust you on this for now. But you and Ah Mu need to have a child soon.”

She paused briefly and lovingly stroked An Lin’s hair. No matter how old her daughter was, in her eyes as a mother, she was still a child who needed constant reminders.

“It’s not that Mom doesn’t trust Ah Mu, but in today’s society, there’s temptation everywhere. Even the best relationships can suffer without a child to anchor the marriage.”

“Mom, there’s no problem between me and Ah Mu.”

An Lin smiled reassuringly.

Mom An sighed, “No problems now doesn’t mean no problems in the future. Your aunt just called me at noon, saying your cousin has divorced her husband. The reason is that your cousin’s husband had an affair.”

An Lin’s eyes widened in disbelief, “My cousin’s husband is such an honest man. How could he have an affair?”

“There’s no such thing as a cat that doesn’t steal fish.”

Mom An said sincerely, “Ah Mu may be a responsible man with no hidden agendas, but your marriage is somewhat unconventional. Linlin, it’s not that Mom doesn’t trust Ah Mu; I just worry that if things continue like this, you yourself may end up unhappy.”

Her words were tactful, but An Lin understood them clearly.

Thinking about the past few months, while Qin Mu hadn’t intentionally ignored her, his time spent with her had noticeably decreased.

This was especially evident on New Year’s Eve, when he surely misunderstood her decline in taking Gao Yuwen’s calls as connected to him coming out of the study.

A pang of sadness pricked her heart. She lowered her gaze, with a fleeting emotion flashing through her eyes.

“Linlin, a child is a bridge for emotional communication between a couple. If you and Ah Mu have a child, your bond will definitely deepen. Even if Ah Mu doesn’t want a child, you shouldn’t follow suit and act recklessly.”

Because of her niece’s failed marriage, Mom An felt uneasy.

An Lin forced a cheerful laugh, “Mom, you really don’t need to worry. Ah Mu and I are great; he’s promised to care for me for the rest of his life.”

“No one can promise forever.”

Mom An shook her head.

After comforting her mom with a few more words, An Lin stood up and said, “Mom, I’m heading upstairs to talk to Dad. You enjoy the fruit salad Dad made for you.”

“An Lin…”

Mom An wanted to say more, but An Lin had already run upstairs.

In the study, Dad An saw An Lin come in, put down the file he was reading, and stepped away from his desk, smiling warmly as he invited her to sit on the sofa.

“Linlin, what did your mom say to you?”

“Nothing much, just some nagging.” An Lin pouted and replied, not looking too pleased.

Dad An chuckled kindly, “Your mom is just concerned about you. During lunch, your aunt called to say your cousin and her husband finalized their divorce. Your mom is upset because she’s afraid the lack of children in your marriage with Ah Mu might affect your relationship.”

“Dad, a cousin is a cousin, and I am me. Ah Mu and I won’t be like them.”

“Linlin, there’s something I haven’t told you. I didn’t want you to worry, but now, I feel there are some things you should know.”

Dad An’s expression turned grave, causing An Lin to pause in surprise, “Dad, what is it?”

“Gao Yuanguang had some dealings with me before. His family has approached me several times, asking for my help. I’ve refused them all…”

G City, Kangning Hospital

Gu Kai personally accompanied Bai Yuqin for her checkup, while Bai Yiyi and Tongtong tagged along. The doctors and nurses at the hospital looked on with ambiguous expressions, whispering quietly in small groups.

Gu Kai’s phone rang. He said a quick word to Bai Yiyi before stepping into the hallway to answer the call, “Dad.”

“Ah Kai, come to my office.”

Gu Yan’s voice came through the phone. Gu Kai turned to glance at the door behind him and agreed softly, “Alright, I’ll come up right away.”

Two minutes later, Gu Kai pushed open the door to the director’s office, walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down, “Dad, what’s up?”

“I heard you brought Bai Yuqin to the hospital for her checkup?”

Gu Yan raised his gaze from the medical files in front of him, his calm eyes settling on his son.

Gu Kai nodded openly, “Yes. She had a cold recently, and last night she coughed up blood. Yiyi was worried, so she asked her to come back to G City for a checkup.”

“Ah Kai, you brought Bai Yiyi home this morning. Does this mean you’ve made up your mind?”

Listening to his son’s explanation, Gu Yan’s face gradually relaxed into a smile.

Gu Kai nodded, “Yes, I’ve made up my mind. No matter what Fu Jingyi and Bai Yuqin did to hurt our family, that has nothing to do with Yiyi. Dad, I understand now — you and Ranran weren’t completely faultless, but you decided to let go of the past for my sake.”

“You’ve grown. It’s good to see you come to terms with this.” Gu Yan raised an eyebrow, generously praising Gu Kai.

Gu Kai smiled slightly, “If I couldn’t figure it out for a lifetime, wouldn’t that leave you and Ranran worrying and feeling hurt? Dad, thank you for accepting Yiyi.”

The kindness his father showed to Bai Yiyi earlier that morning was something Gu Kai deeply appreciated.

The reason he had been so conflicted for so long was not just because he himself struggled to move on from the past. If he chose to be with Bai Yiyi, it meant that his father and sister would have to learn to coexist with Bai Yiyi’s mother, ignoring the painful memories of her past actions.

He was willing, for Bai Yiyi, to overlook Bai Yuqin’s actions and continue to treat her as an elder — even go as far as to care for her alongside Bai Yiyi.

But he didn’t want to pressure his own family to forgive their antagonist.

Gu Yan sighed lightly, “Ah Kai, whatever decision you make, we will support you. It’s not just Ranran and me — your mom also supports you.”
