Chapter 1526: 1525 Vs Rival in Love
Qin Mu turned his gaze to An Lin.
Feeling his gaze, An Lin’s face showed a trace of embarrassment.
She didn’t know Yang Junze would point out her favorite dishes in front of Qin Mu.
Qin Mu didn’t show any anger; he just leaned slightly towards her, and his warm breath brushed against her ear, with his low, warm voice drilling into her ear.
“You’re not feeling well these days, eat something light.”
An Lin paused for a moment, turning her gaze towards his handsome face, so close to her, with a gentle smile between his brows, and in his eyes, dark as a deep pool, clearly reflecting herself.
Her heartstrings trembled imperceptibly.
Qin Mu had already picked up another menu, flipped through it, and ordered a porridge, three dishes, and a soup.
The voice he used when speaking to An Lin was not a whisper; in fact, he controlled the volume well, sounding like a whisper between the two but clear enough for Yang Junze sitting opposite to hear.
Yang Junze’s gaze changed, but the smile on his face remained.
During the meal, Qin Mu listened to Yang Junze and An Lin chat, occasionally adding a comment.
You couldn’t detect any disdain towards Yang Junze, yet every sentence made Yang Junze clearly feel the overpowering strength of the man opposite him.
That inherent confidence and pride, different upbringing, even though Yang Junze struggled to reach the position of Chief, he was superior in front of ordinary people.
But in front of Qin Mu, he felt a foot lower.
Qin Mu spoke little, sometimes economical with his words, not engaging much with him, yet the refined and noble aura he exuded constantly reminded Yang Junze not to harbor thoughts about his wife.
Any notion, just wouldn’t work.
“Young Master Qin, I heard that Chief Qin is hospitalized in G City. Is his injury improving?”
This question had already been asked by Yang Junze to An Lin.
Once the dishes were served, he politely asked Qin Mu again.
Qin Mu picked some dishes for An Lin and placed them on her plate before looking at Yang Junze, saying lightly, “Much better. I remember Chief Yang and Yao Dewei seem to be distant cousins, right?”
Yang Junze awkwardly twitched his mouth, “More than a thousand miles apart cousins. I don’t even know where Yao Dewei is now.”
“Don’t be nervous, Chief Yang. Yao Dewei and his father have already escaped abroad. I do not suspect you know.” Qin Mu assured him, but could Yang Junze not be nervous?
The father and son of Yao family are now fugitives. After recent investigations, their relatives and family were also implicated.
His thoughts whirred, watching Qin Mu’s gentle care for An Lin, suddenly understanding: Qin Mu indeed wasn’t suspecting him, but warning him.
No matter how distant the relation is with the Yao family.
Ultimately, there’s still a kinship.
An Lin was kidnapped by Yao Dewei and almost caused Qin Zhongnan’s death; they are their enemies.
Yang Junze was shocked in his heart; Qin Mu took quite the roundabout way with that.
“This water is cold, drink the soup.” Before An Lin could lift the cup in front of her, Qin Mu had already held her wrist, his lips curved slightly, gazing at the soup he had just served her.
An Lin signaled with her eyes for him to let go.
Qin Mu smiled, his big hand released.
An Lin then raised the soup to drink.
After eating, bidding farewell to Yang Junze, Qin Mu and An Lin strolled back to the company, Qin Mu’s phone rang.
“It’s mom calling.”
Seeing the call, Qin Mu said to An Lin beside him.
An Lin responded with an “oh,” Qin Mu pressed the answer button, still walking beside her.
The streetside had some unknown trees blooming, the fragrance swept past, faintly carrying a hint of floral scent. An Lin glanced sideways at the flowers on the tree, and the sound of Qin Mu’s phone conversation drilled into her ears.
“Mom, can you give the phone to dad? I want to speak to him.”
An Lin turned her gaze to Qin Mu, only to see his handsome brows furrowed slightly, lips gently pressed together.
Seeing her look, his furrowed brows relaxed again, his lips gently curving into a smile.
After a moment, the person on the phone changed to Qin Zhongnan, Qin Mu’s voice rang out warm and calm, “Dad, stay at Kangning Hospital for two more days, An Lin and I will be back by the day after tomorrow at the latest. Then, we will accompany you back to A City.”
Upon hearing this, An Lin’s brows knitted lightly, she lowered her eyelids without speaking.
Whatever was said on the other end of the phone, Qin Mu explained a couple of sentences and hung up.
“Dad wants to return to A City, but his injuries haven’t healed yet. Once back in A City, he definitely won’t be able to recover properly.”
“I don’t plan to go back. I’ll stay in City C. Over the years, I’ve already gotten used to this city.”
An Lin spoke nonchalantly, but hearing it, Qin Mu felt somewhat complex.
Previously unaware, but now he knew.
The reason An Lin agreed to stay in City C after Haochen’s management for several years wasn’t because she was friends with Mo Xiuchen.
It was for him, Qin Mu!
“An Lin, I’m not asking you to never return, just to accompany me to G City. My mom and I have tried persuading, but your persuasion would be more effective.”
“Don’t flatter me,” An Lin glanced at him, “Dad’s thoughts are always on work; even if I persuaded, it wouldn’t be effective.”
Qin Mu chuckled softly, “I’m serious. Have you forgotten, after I told him about us, he was furious over the phone, saying if I dared to not take responsibility, he’d shoot me dead.”
An Lin raised an eyebrow, “So, it’s not of your own will, you’re scared of being shot dead by dad.”
“An Lin, you’re wronging me here. I said we’d try dating even before calling back. It’s just getting the certificate so quickly was a bit unexpected.”
As Qin Mu said this, his voice paused slightly, with a low, warm tone carrying a trace of nostalgia, “At that time, I was afraid you wouldn’t be willing to get the certificate immediately, thinking we should date for a while to let you adjust. An Lin, I think we’re quite good together.”
“Stop deceiving me, I don’t dare believe a single word of yours now.”
An Lin smiled, slightly tilting her face up, with specks of golden light in her eyes, “I’ve come to the realization, being friends with you is better than being husband and wife.”
“Alright then, you can just treat me as a friend, forget we’re legally married, and let me prove it to you.”
Qin Mu wasn’t bothered and after several debates with An Lin, knew neither could convince the other.
“Prove what?”
An Lin looked at him amusedly.
This was the man she had liked for over a decade, from when he was a charming youth to now a mature and wise handsome man. Her feelings for him, from liking to deep love.
Actually, she just wanted to set him free.
Why was he so foolish, bearing the responsibility, going against his heart to indulge her, to please her?
A determined glint appeared in Qin Mu’s eyes, “Prove that what I said about liking you wasn’t a lie.”
“Alright, then wait until you return the same feelings before we talk about it.”
An Lin laughed nonchalantly. If he truly could fall in love with her, she could forgive him for the hurt he caused before. If, after trying, he still doesn’t love her, then this marriage would end.
