Chapter 1600: 1599 doesn’t want him to get too close to us

“Ah Feng, when are you coming back?”

On the other end of the phone, Mother Luo’s voice came through the line.

Mo Xiuchen, Qin Mu and the others couldn’t hear what Mother Luo was saying, but after knowing it was her calling, they withdrew their gazes.

Luo Haofeng held the phone in one hand and touched the mahjong tiles with the other, answering, “Mom, I’m staying in G City for a day, I’ll come back tomorrow afternoon.”

“Why do you have to stay overnight? Come back this afternoon, I’m not feeling well, and your dad isn’t home…”

Mother Luo’s voice suddenly had a trace of discomfort, unclear if it was real or not.

Luo Haofeng frowned, “Mom, if you’re not feeling well, go see a doctor. Your headache isn’t a new issue, me coming back won’t help.”

Seeing Wen Jin and the others stop, Luo Haofeng signaled with his eyes for them to continue playing.

Mo Xiuchen glanced at him, picked up a tile which happened to complete his hand.

Luo Haofeng said to Qin Mu beside him, “Ah Mu, take over for a while,” and then got up, walking aside with his phone.

Wen Ran came over with a plate of fruit, and Mo Xiuchen smiled and said, “Ranran, feed me a piece.”

“Are you as young as Ziyi, needing Ranran to feed you?” Gu Kai teased with a smile, while Qin Mu just smirked and took the fruit plate from Wen Ran’s hand.

He placed it between him and Gu Kai, “Ah Kai, Ah Jin, don’t hold back.”

“Of course, we can’t hold back, every time we play mahjong with Xiu Chen, we have to lose everything before we can go home. Don’t invite me for dinner next time.”

Wen Jin, biting an apple, didn’t forget to complain.

“Ah Jin, you didn’t lose much today, I lost the most. I’m going to eat more of this fruit, Ranran, bring over two more plates.”

Wen Ran couldn’t help but laugh at their unrefined eating mannerisms.

Mo Xiuchen glanced at the quickly emptying fruit plate, pulling Wen Ran to sit beside him, “Ranran, you play. I’ll guide you from the side.”

“I’m not as skilled as you, I’ll lose.”

Wen Ran laughed, shaking her head, as Yiyi and Xiaocha were still over there.

Besides them, there was a group of kids, and as the hostess, she needed to attend to them.

“With me here, you won’t lose.” Mo Xiuchen dominantly held her in his arms, encouraging her to draw a tile, his amused voice in her ear, “If I win their money, they always complain, but if you win, no one will say anything.”

“Xiu Chen, go away, if Ranran wins against us, even if we lose everything, we wouldn’t mind, right, Ah Jin?”

Gu Kai pretended to throw the tile in his hand at Mo Xiuchen.

Mo Xiuchen raised an unconcerned eyebrow, “If you have the guts, invite Yiyi and Tongtong over, see if you can win.”

“Why didn’t you leave me any? You all ate it up.”

Luo Haofeng, coming back after the call, frowned immediately seeing the empty fruit plate and complained.

Qin Mu offered him the piece he was about to eat, “Want it?”

“It’s got your saliva on it, no thanks.”

“You handle the game.” Qin Mu got up, returning to his recliner, yielding the spot to Luo Haofeng.

“Is Aunt Luo urging you to go for a blind date again?”

Gu Kai leaned back, his narrow eyes glanced towards Luo Haofeng’s tiles but were blocked by him.

“It’s not a blind date.”

Luo Haofeng’s tone was stiff, seemingly in a bad mood after the call.

“If not a blind date, then what? Why the rush back on a weekend?”

Gu Kai smiled at Luo Haofeng.

Hearing their conversation, Mo Xiuchen, who had been helping Wen Ran, raised his gaze, looking at Luo Haofeng with indifference, “Aunt Luo doesn’t want Ah Feng to get too close to us.”

“Huh?”

Gu Kai’s eyes widened in shock, not quite believing Mo Xiuchen’s words.

Qin Mu’s eyes reflected a hint of contemplation, then he said, “Couldn’t be, your mom’s still not at ease with you, thinking you came to G City because of Bai Xiaoxiao?”

Luo Haofeng had years of brotherhood with them, and Mother Luo was most aware of it.

Of course, she wouldn’t cut off Luo Haofeng’s contact with them.

If she was uneasy about Luo Haofeng coming to G City, there could only be one reason: Bai Xiaoxiao.

Though Bai Xiaoxiao was abroad, she was like a sister to Wen Ran. Mother Luo might be worried that Luo Haofeng would hear about Bai Xiaoxiao from Wen Ran.

“No, it’s just that my mom’s getting old and wants me around her all the time.” Luo Haofeng denied their guesses.

Yet, the mention of Bai Xiaoxiao’s name stirred ripples in his heart.

The previous calm was gone.

Sometimes he felt he was a bit masochistic.

His days in City B were spent focusing all his energy on his company; as long as he didn’t intentionally think about it, life stayed calm.

But each time he came to G City, whether or not he heard news about Bai Xiaoxiao, even if no one mentioned her name, just seeing Wen Ran would remind him of her.

Yet he still wanted to come.

Was it to see his brothers or to experience the heartache of longing here…

Qin Mu and An Lin stayed for dinner at Mo Xiuchen’s house, and Qing Feng drove them home.

“You rest a bit, I’ll get you some clothes and run a bath,” An Lin said, helping Qin Mu to the sofa after entering the living room.

Though discharged, it didn’t mean his injuries were fully healed.

With the excitement and company today, though he was told to rest in the afternoon, Qin Mu didn’t rest, instead joining Mo Xiuchen and others in playing cards and chatting, though he was merely watching, he was exhausted.

“An Lin, no rush, let’s bathe later.”

Qin Mu stopped An Lin from looking for clothes by holding her hand.

An Lin blinked in surprise, her clear eyes looking into his, “What’s up?”

“You’re tired too, sit and rest a while.” Qin Mu pulled An Lin to sit on the couch, glancing around the living room before saying sentimentally, “After being away for so long, we’ve finally come home.”

“Not we, it’s you.”

An Lin corrected him with a smile, “I often come home.”

Qin Mu raised an eyebrow, “Alright, I was wrong. I haven’t returned home in a long time. Honey, shouldn’t you give me a welcome?”

“Welcome? How am I supposed to do that?”

An Lin laughed at him, as he wasn’t a guest; did he still need a welcome for coming home?

Feigning thoughtfulness for a few seconds, Qin Mu suggested, “How about a welcome kiss or something?”

Hearing this, An Lin’s lips twitched, “I’ve never heard of such a welcoming ceremony; I better show my tenderness and competence by fetching you clothes and running bath water.”

Saying that, she was about to get up.

But Qin Mu didn’t let go of her hand. Instead, he tightened his grip, leaned forward, placed a hand behind her head, and pressed his lips against hers.

“…”

An Lin’s heart skipped a beat, her eyes wide open in shock at the handsome face magnified in front of her.

“Close your eyes, open them later.”

Qin Mu’s deep voice echoed in the amorous living room, lips curving into a smile as he parted her lips and kissed deeply…
