Chapter 1902: Chapter 1901: He’s Worried About You
Wen Ran and Bai Xiaoxiao were chatting with Fang Zhiwei in Lu Zhiyan’s office for a few minutes when Lu Zhiyan returned.
Seeing him come in, Wen Ran asked with concern, “Brother Lu, did Meng Ke say anything?”
Although Xiaoxiao wasn’t intimidated by Meng Ke, she felt that now that Meng Ke was apprehended, he couldn’t harm Xiaoxiao.
But there was still a bit of unease.
Lu Zhiyan shook his head, “He hasn’t said anything yet, we’ll continue to interrogate him.”
Earlier, the words exchanged between Meng Ke and Bai Xiaoxiao were heard by Lu Zhiyan, so he naturally understood the implication of Wen Ran’s question.
He also reassured, “Don’t worry, Meng Ke can’t contact the outside world. What he said before was just to scare you.”
Even at a time like this, he’s still thinking about evil deeds.
It’s really a complete reversal of the image he portrays to the outside world.
The phone rang, and seeing that it was Mo Xiuchen calling, Wen Ran answered softly with a gentle “hello.”
Not knowing what Mo Xiuchen said on the other end, Wen Ran instinctively glanced at Bai Xiaoxiao beside her.
Bai Xiaoxiao was lost in her own thoughts and didn’t notice Wen Ran’s glance; she only heard Wen Ran respond, “Alright, I understand.”
After hanging up the phone, she said to Lu Zhiyan, “Brother Lu, Xiaoxiao and I are heading back now, please handle things with Meng Ke.”
In the car, Bai Xiaoxiao, thinking of the call Mo Xiuchen made to Wen Ran earlier, gently asked, “Ranran, are you going back to the office or somewhere else?”
Going back now would align perfectly with the end of the workday.
Mo Xiuchen is always domineering; Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t want to compete with him for Ranran.
To be precise, she didn’t want to be a third wheel between the two.
No matter what transpired between him and Luo Haofeng, Bai Xiaoxiao genuinely hoped Ranran would live happily.
Wen Ran’s eyes flickered, a faint smile appeared on her lips, “Xiaoxiao, if you’re not going back to the office, let’s have dinner together.”
“If I bring along this third wheel, your family’s Mo Xiuchen will get jealous again.”
Bai Xiaoxiao teased with a laugh.
Wen Ran glared at her, “No worries, this third wheel will be completely ignored by Xiuchen.”
Then her smile faded, her expression turned serious, “Xiaoxiao, Mo Xiuchen called earlier, Luo Haofeng is in G City. Do you want to see him?”
Originally, Wen Ran could have tricked Bai Xiaoxiao into going.
But she didn’t want to do that.
She understood Xiaoxiao; back then, breaking up with Luo Haofeng wasn’t due to Xiaoxiao being heartless nor foolish.
Only someone who has experienced it personally can understand the suffering involved.
For outsiders, it’s easy to brush it off as past grievances from the previous generation, saying that since it has nothing to do with Luo Haofeng, Bai Xiaoxiao shouldn’t have broken up with him…
Upon hearing the name Luo Haofeng, Bai Xiaoxiao’s expression changed instantly, “Ranran, I’m not going; you go to dinner.”
She couldn’t hate Luo Haofeng because it wasn’t his fault.
But Luo Haofeng is Wu Jingfang’s son, and Wu Jingfang grievously hurt her mother. Bai Xiaoxiao is just an ordinary person, unable to treat Luo Haofeng as before.
Perhaps time can heal the heart’s wounds.
Many years later, she might be able to face Luo Haofeng calmly, but certainly not now.
Wen Ran knew this would be the result when she told Bai Xiaoxiao; if she had tricked her into seeing Luo Haofeng, although the two could meet, Bai Xiaoxiao would still turn and leave.
In that case, Luo Haofeng wouldn’t be happy; he’d just be more upset.
She sighed softly in her heart, gently saying, “Alright, if you don’t want to see him, you don’t have to. Luo Haofeng didn’t insist on meeting you; he just came to G City out of concern.”
The previously calm emotions were gradually stirred.
In her heart, it felt as if something tightly tugged, a pain beyond words that intensified bit by bit.
A subtle sorrow took over Bai Xiaoxiao’s brows and eyes.
She could control herself not to think about him or see him.
Yet, she couldn’t control her mood, as it was influenced by that person.
She couldn’t stop feeling sad.
There was a moment of silence in the cramped car.
Finally, Bai Xiaoxiao stiffly said, “Ranran, tell him I’m doing well, and he shouldn’t feel sad either.”
In truth, Bai Xiaoxiao had nothing to regret.
She also hoped Luo Haofeng could forget the past between them and find a good girl.
Wen Ran managed a forced smile, “I’ll pass on your words to him.”
Wen Ran dropped Bai Xiaoxiao home before heading for Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion.
After Mo Xiuchen had called, he went to the airport to pick up Luo Haofeng.
Every time before, when Luo Haofeng came, he would prearrange for a driver, but this afternoon, Luo Haofeng had called him directly.
When Wen Ran arrived at the Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion’s private room, Mo Xiuchen and Luo Haofeng were already seated inside.
The spacious private room, with only the two of them, felt a bit empty.
But what truly caused Luo Haofeng’s gaze to fall desolately was not that there were only he and Mo Xiuchen in the room, but that the person appearing at the doorway was only Wen Ran.
He had just learned that Wen Ran accompanied Bai Xiaoxiao to the police station.
Now that only Wen Ran arrived here, it meant that Xiaoxiao was unwilling to see him, hence, she went home.
This outcome was something he had anticipated.
However, seeing no one behind Wen Ran still made his heart pang with a sharp ache.
The sorrow was so deep it couldn’t be masked.
It showed plainly on his now much thinner, handsome face.
Even Wen Ran could see at a glance that Luo Haofeng had lost weight; seeing his desolate eyes stirred a hint of helplessness in her heart.
Nevertheless, she pulled out a smile and entered the room, “Didn’t expect you two to be faster than me; wasn’t there any traffic on the way?”
Mo Xiuchen stood up, walked over to hold Wen Ran’s hand, leading her to the large round table, where he pulled out a chair for her. Once seated, he took his own seat.
“Did you drop Xiaoxiao home?”
No matter whether he mentioned Bai Xiaoxiao or not, Luo Haofeng would feel sorrowful.
Mo Xiuchen had no need to deliberately avoid bringing up Bai Xiaoxiao. On the contrary, Luo Haofeng likely wanted to know what Bai Xiaoxiao said when she met Meng Ke.
Indeed, upon hearing Bai Xiaoxiao’s name, Luo Haofeng looked immediately towards Wen Ran.
Wen Ran smiled and answered, “I took Xiaoxiao home before coming.”
She glanced at Luo Haofeng and continued, “Earlier, I accompanied Xiaoxiao to meet Meng Ke, and he threatened Xiaoxiao, telling her to abort the child…”
Upon hearing this, Luo Haofeng’s face changed dramatically. He couldn’t even wait to hear the rest of Wen Ran’s words and stood up abruptly, “I’m going to find Meng Ke.”
“Ah Feng, calm down first, and listen to what Ranran has to say.”
Mo Xiuchen’s expression turned stern as he seriously stopped Luo Haofeng.
What could he achieve by rushing to find Meng Ke now?
