Chapter 1906: Chapter 1905: Spending the Day with You
In the car by the roadside downstairs.
Luo Haofeng was still staring blankly at the window on the second floor when the sound of two message alerts suddenly echoed inside the car.
His heart trembled, and he hurriedly pulled out his phone from his pocket, unlocked it, and read the message.
As expected, the message was from Bai Xiaoxiao.
Looking at the content of the message, emotions of pain, struggle, and excitement surged and intertwined in the depths of Luo Haofeng’s dark eyes.
Xiaoxiao is not really heartless.
She still cares about him.
He reread the message again and again, reluctant to even skip the punctuation marks, and by the end, his eyes unconsciously grew wet.
He carefully closed the message and put the phone back in his pocket.
Looking up, he stared again at the now-darkened window on the second floor.
He knew Xiaoxiao wasn’t asleep.
If he didn’t leave, Xiaoxiao probably wouldn’t be able to sleep either,
He pressed his lips tightly together, ignoring the reluctance in his heart, started the car, and left.
If Xiaoxiao didn’t know he was downstairs, he wouldn’t leave at all; perhaps he would spend the night sitting there, watching her window all night long.
But Xiaoxiao found out and even told him to go back.
He couldn’t stay any longer, couldn’t disturb her rest.
In the silent night, even the slightest sound was exceptionally clear.
The sound of the engine starting and the car leaving clearly reached Bai Xiaoxiao’s ears on the second floor.
A surge of warmth passed through her nose and filled her eyes, which she quickly forced down, pulling back the covers, getting out of bed, and going to the window once more.
By the roadside, the spot where the car had parked was now empty.
Staring into the darkness, Bai Xiaoxiao’s mind couldn’t help but conjure the image of Luo Haofeng sitting in the car earlier.
Her slender fingers unconsciously gripped the corner of the curtain, her gaze fixed on that spot, unwilling to look away.
She didn’t know why she felt a sense of loss, as if somewhere in her heart had suddenly become hollow, despite being the one who didn’t want him to sit there all night and told him to leave.
But when he actually left, she felt sad.
Bai Xiaoxiao stood by the window for a long time, until her legs faintly began to feel numb, then she turned and went back to bed to sleep.
In the latter half of the night, Bai Xiaoxiao suffered from insomnia.
It wasn’t until dawn that she finally fell into a groggy sleep.
The next day, she got up at ten in the morning and once out of bed, as if enchanted, went directly to the window first to look downstairs.
Sunlight hit the spot that had been pitch-black the previous night, casting a patchy shadow on the ground because of a nearby tree.
A burst of heat came through the window she opened, causing Bai Xiaoxiao to squint unconsciously. Her phone on the bedside table vibrated with a soft hum, followed by a crisp ringtone.
The call was from Wen Ran, and Bai Xiaoxiao gently answered with a “hello,” to which Wen Ran’s voice, bright and cheerful like the sunshine outside, came through the phone, “Xiaoxiao, are you up yet?”
“Just got up. Aren’t you with your Mo Xiuchen? How do you have the time to call me?”
Wen Ran’s weekends were usually spent with Mo Xiuchen.
“He took Ziyi to go horseback riding, and I’m free, so I thought I’d give you a call. Do you have time? Let’s go shopping.”
Early this morning, Luo Haofeng came to their house.
Then he and Mo Xiuchen took the kids horse riding, leaving Wen Ran to keep Bai Xiaoxiao company.
It was rare for Mo Xiuchen to be so accommodating. Wen Ran guessed they had something to discuss that they didn’t want her to know about.
Although a little curious, she didn’t press for answers.
If they wanted her to know, Mo Xiuchen would tell her. If not, asking would be pointless.
Soon after finishing the call with Bai Xiaoxiao, Gu Kai and Wen Jin arrived at her house, saying they were taking Xin Xin and Momo to the riding stable.
“Will that be okay? Can you manage with so many kids?”
Though she asked somewhat worriedly, with Tongtong, there were four kids in total.
Gu Kai laughed, “Don’t worry, Ranran. We can handle it.”
“Alright then.”
Wen Ran thought for a moment and smiled, nodding.
These two were her brothers; how could she not trust them to take care of Xin Xin and Momo?
“Xiuchen said you’d find it hard taking care of two children while accompanying Xiaoxiao, so now that we’re taking the kids, you can just focus on spending time with Xiaoxiao.”
Wen Jin finished speaking and waved to Xin Xin and Momo who were not far away.
**
Qing Feng was driving Wen Ran to Xiaoxiao’s house to pick her up.
“Xiaoxiao, didn’t you sleep last night? Why do you have dark circles again?”
As soon as Bai Xiaoxiao came out, Wen Ran noticed the dark circles around her eyes, and furrowed her brows.
Bai Xiaoxiao nonchalantly smiled and got into the back seat of the car after Qing Feng opened the door, “I went to bed too early last night and couldn’t fall back asleep after waking up in the middle of the night.”
Wen Ran got in after her, turned sideways, and stared at her inquisitively, “You didn’t have insomnia because of what Meng Ke said yesterday, did you?”
“Of course not.”
Bai Xiaoxiao’s eyes flickered as she shook her head in denial.
What kept her awake wasn’t Meng Ke’s words, but the person waiting downstairs for her last night.
Wen Ran chuckled, “That’s good, you really don’t need to worry about Meng Ke.”
“I know. Last night, I told my mom.” Bai Xiaoxiao glanced at Wen Ran, then lowered her eyes and spoke softly.
A touch of concern showed on Wen Ran’s face, “What did Aunt Qiao say?”
“My mom said, even if the things from back then are exposed, I’m not allowed to abort the baby in my belly.”
Wen Ran’s eyes showed a hint of emotion, grateful Bai Xiaoxiao had such a good mother.
She held Bai Xiaoxiao’s hand lightly and said, “Xiaoxiao, with a mom like Aunt Qiao, you shouldn’t let your thoughts run wild.”
“I’m not overthinking.”
Bai Xiaoxiao defended herself, and Wen Ran, smiling teasingly, didn’t believe her, “Your dark circles tell a different story, really slept too early, thereby causing insomnia?”
She hadn’t known her only for a day or two; how could she be fooled by such words?
A trace of discomfort flashed across Bai Xiaoxiao’s face, not wanting to continue the topic, so she changed the subject by asking, “What were you planning to buy when you called me shopping?”
Wen Ran raised an eyebrow and smiled playfully, “I haven’t decided yet. Let’s just buy whatever we see that we like.”
“How did Mo Xiuchen let you come out alone?”
Bai Xiaoxiao joked with her.
“They’re just a bunch of men taking a few kids horse riding. There’s nothing fun in it for me, so today’s like a holiday for me.”
“A whole day off?”
Bai Xiaoxiao smiled slyly, her eyes bright as she looked at Wen Ran.
Wen Ran nodded without hesitation, “Of course, a whole day, so I can spend it with you.”
“You said it yourself, no picking up calls from Mo Xiuchen if he calls in between.” Bai Xiaoxiao bossily demanded, and Wen Ran laughed and agreed, assuming Xiuchen probably didn’t have the time to bother her today.
“Rest assured, I’ll keep my word.”
