Chapter 1931: 1930: The End
Chapter 1931: Chapter 1930: The End
Because Wen Ran was worried about Bai Xiaoxiao, that night, she stayed in the same room with her.
Although Bai Xiaoxiao had her eyes closed, she wasn’t really asleep; she was just pretending.
Wen Ran quietly got out of bed and went to the bathroom to make a call.
In the bedroom, the moment Wen Ran got out of bed and went to the bathroom, Bai Xiaoxiao opened her eyes. The dim light illuminated her fair cheeks, and there was a faint sorrow in her eyes.
In her belly, the baby moved gently. She didn’t know whether it was affected by her emotions and couldn’t sleep, or for some other reason.
Bai Xiaoxiao gently caressed her belly with one hand, stared in the direction of the bathroom for a while, then reached for her phone and unlocked it.
In the bathroom, Wen Ran dialed Mo Xiuchen’s number.
Ever since Bai Xiaoxiao had received a call from Xiao Yuting, Wen Ran had been accompanying Bai Xiaoxiao, and hadn’t had time to call Mo Xiuchen.
And Mo Xiuchen, possibly busy, hadn’t called her either.
After two rings, Mo Xiuchen’s gentle and soft voice came through, “Hello, Ranran.”
“Xiuchen, is Luo Haofeng going to take responsibility for Qiao Siyi?”
Wen Ran lowered her voice a bit. With the bathroom door closed, Bai Xiaoxiao outside couldn’t hear her.
But on the other end of the line, Mo Xiuchen was somewhat surprised, “Ranran, why are you asking this?”
But he quickly guessed, “Did Xiao Yuting call Bai Xiaoxiao again?”
Since he had come to B City, he only called Wen Ran once and didn’t mention that Luo Haofeng might be responsible for Qiao Siyi’s situation, because even Luo Haofeng hadn’t decided yet.
“Yes, Xiao Yuting called Xiaoxiao again, saying Qiao Siyi is going to lose a leg, and asked Xiaoxiao to persuade Luo Haofeng to take responsibility for her.”
“Xiao Yuting, that fool. He likes Qiao Siyi himself, yet wants Haofeng to marry her.”
Mo Xiuchen’s voice carried a trace of anger, “This matter is quite complicated. Qiao Siyi’s mother is also insisting that Haofeng should take responsibility for her and marry her as his wife.”
“What does Luo Haofeng think?”
Wen Ran frowned with worry. If Luo Haofeng really agreed to Qiao Siyi, then what about Xiaoxiao?
In the bedroom outside, the sound of a ringing phone came through. Mo Xiuchen’s voice sounded soothing in Wen Ran’s ear, “Haofeng is hesitant; I don’t know what kind of decision he will make now.”
On the spacious bed, Bai Xiaoxiao was startled by the sudden ringing of the phone.
She initially wanted to send Luo Haofeng a message asking if he was seriously injured.
But in the end, she couldn’t resist her concern for him. Unexpectedly, his call came first, not knowing if it was a coincidence or a shared feeling.
Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t hesitate to press the answer button and gently spoke, “Hello.”
“Xiaoxiao, it’s me.”
Luo Haofeng’s voice came faintly through the distance, and Bai Xiaoxiao’s heart inexplicably ached, the strength in her grip slightly increased.
“You’re injured, why haven’t you rested yet?”
The words she spoke, either because the distance was too great, or the person on the other end was too troubled to hear the concern in her tone.
“Xiaoxiao, I want to ask you something.”
Luo Haofeng was focused on the purpose of his call; he wanted an answer.
Bai Xiaoxiao’s heart slightly sank at his words, without any reason, a heavy block of dread filled her chest.
Causing her voice to hold a hint of stiffness when she spoke again, “What is it?”
“Xiaoxiao, we’ve been broken up for over three months now, can you accept me again?” Luo Haofeng’s voice carried a heartbreaking sense of loneliness.
Bai Xiaoxiao’s heart froze for a moment, her lips trembled, unable to form words for a long time.
Over the phone, an overwhelming silence lingered.
Between them, separated by just a phone call, lay the mountains and rivers that even a warrior couldn’t cross, a despair waiting countless lifetimes that could never be bridged.
“Xiaoxiao, I won’t bother you anymore, I won’t push you anymore, I’ve decided to agree to the request you made initially.”
Before she could respond, Luo Haofeng’s voice broke the silence and came through.
Gently into Bai Xiaoxiao’s ear.
Her heart, however, felt like it was being hammered heavily by someone, as tears instantly clouded her eyes.
Bai Xiaoxiao pressed her lips tightly, trying hard to control the spreading pain in her heart.
“Xiaoxiao, I’m tired, maybe we shouldn’t have met in the first place. And back then, I shouldn’t have hidden from you, shouldn’t have deceived you, I thought I could stay with you till the end.”
Something slipped from her eyes, sliding down her cheek.
Bai Xiaoxiao almost held her breath, listening to Luo Haofeng on the other end of the phone saying, “But life plays tricks on people, and in the end, made you find out those truths. If my presence would make it impossible for you to forget those things for the rest of your life, then I’m willing to let go.”
“…”
I’ve been trying hard to let go of the past.
I don’t want you to wait in vain your whole life…
Words she wanted to say were pressed down deep in her heart by the surging heat, like waves under the sea, rolling, clamoring, but unable to break through the surface.
“Xiaoxiao, I’ve decided to forget our past and start a new life. In future days, take good care of yourself.”
“…”
“I wish you happiness.”
Bai Xiaoxiao repressed the bone-deep pain in her heart, calmly speaking these words, without a trace of sorrow, without a hint of choking, and in Luo Haofeng’s ear, it sounded so light and breezy.
He responded with a simple “okay,” and after a long silence, softly added, “Xiaoxiao, you should be happy too.”
Then, he hung up the phone.
Wen Ran came out of the bathroom to see Bai Xiaoxiao lying on the bed, her eyes blankly staring at the ceiling, silent tears rolling down from the corners of her eyes.
Her eyes tightened, she quickly came to the bedside, and asked with concern, “Xiaoxiao, why are you crying?”
Earlier when she was in the bathroom, hearing the phone ring, who could have called her, making her cry.
With her mind racing, Wen Ran asked in shock, “Xiaoxiao, tell me, what happened?”
She said, sitting on the edge of the bed, using her hand to wipe Bai Xiaoxiao’s tears.
Bai Xiaoxiao’s hollow eyes slowly gathered sorrow, and pain, then after a moment, she turned her head, her gaze meeting Wen Ran’s eyes.
Tears fell like rain.
“Xiaoxiao, don’t cry.”
Wen Ran helped Bai Xiaoxiao sit up, looking at her with deep concern.
Bai Xiaoxiao was never the kind of girl who cried easily; in fact, Wen Ran rarely saw her cry.
But for someone as straightforward, strong, and optimistic as Bai Xiaoxiao, every time she cried in front of her, it was because of a man.
“Was it Luo Haofeng who called you just now?”
Mo Xiuchen said he didn’t know what kind of decision Luo Haofeng would make, but Wen Ran had a bad premonition in her heart.
Sure enough, a mournful smile appeared on Bai Xiaoxiao’s lips, “Ranran, is this my retribution?”
