Chapter 2006 - 2005 Evidence
Chapter 2006: 2005 Evidence
Jing Xiaocha didn’t understand what Wen Jin was saying at first, but after seeing the money he handed over, she finally got it.
Her eyes widened as she looked at Wen Jin, waving her right hand in refusal, "Brother Wen, I don’t need your money, I have my own."
Wen Jin was refused, his handsome face darkening a bit, "If you can’t hand in your manuscript now, they won’t pay you for it. Take this money for now, when it’s gone, let me know."
Wen Jin’s tone carried an undeniable authority, low but firm, and Jing Xiaocha understood that if she didn’t take the money, Wen Jin would get angry.
Looking at Wen Jin’s outstretched hand, Jing Xiaocha bit her lip and eventually accepted the money from him.
"If anything happens, just give me a call."
Wen Jin added another sentence.
Last night, when he called Wen Ran, he didn’t really want to get involved with Jing Xiaocha’s affairs, but today he ran into Jing Xiaocha at Haochen’s place.
He had promised to help her, so he couldn’t just ignore it.
**
In the next few days, Jing Xiaocha didn’t receive a call from Wen Jin, informing her of the investigation results.
She wasn’t idle either; although this published novel’s manuscript couldn’t be submitted and got delayed, the one she was serializing online wasn’t finished yet.
Most of her time was spent writing.
She didn’t look for Li Minxu again, but on the third afternoon, it was Li Minxu who called her.
"Jing Xiaocha, there’s only a week left. If you don’t submit the manuscript according to the contract, you’ll be in breach."
Li Minxu coldly reminded her over the phone.
Jing Xiaocha sneered, refusing to be bullied, "I’ve said I will investigate this thoroughly. If the final result is that I did plagiarize, I’ll compensate."
"You’ll compensate?"
Li Minxu’s voice carried a hint of disdain, "Jing Xiaocha, do you have the money to compensate? I suggest you submit another manuscript within these few days."
"Whether I have the money to compensate is my business, you don’t need to worry."
"You’re like a dog biting Lü Dongbin, unable to recognize a good person’s heart. If it weren’t for Young Master Jin’s sake, I wouldn’t bother reminding you."
"Does Senior Jin know about this?"
Jing Xiaocha frowned, squinting her eyes slightly.
Brother Wen had said that this matter might be related to the Jin Family, but Jing Xiaocha didn’t want to believe that Jin Zheyu would do something like that.
"Of course Young Master Jin doesn’t know. However, you were introduced to me by Young Master Jin, so for his sake, I’m reminding you one more time. Don’t waste your time and energy on useless things. In the end, you’ll be the one crying."
Regarding Li Minxu’s warning, Jing Xiaocha only snorted coldly in her heart.
When another call came in, she hung up on Li Minxu and answered Wen Jin’s call.
"Hello, Brother Wen."
"Come downstairs now, I’m outside your apartment."
"Okay."
Jing Xiaocha responded, and Wen Jin hung up.
She ran inside, changed clothes, and then went downstairs.
Wen Jin’s car was parked by the side of the road. When Jing Xiaocha approached the car, Wen Jin rolled down the window and said to her, "Get in."
Jing Xiaocha nodded, circled around the car, and sat in the front passenger seat.
"Brother Wen, where are we going?"
Once in the car, Jing Xiaocha asked Wen Jin while fastening her seatbelt.
Wen Jin watched her fasten her seatbelt with gentle eyes, then looked down as he started the car, "To eat."
"..."
Jing Xiaocha blinked in confusion; she thought there were results from the investigation.
Apparently, there weren’t any results yet.
Wen Jin glanced at her through the rearview mirror, seemingly seeing through her thoughts, "No concrete evidence has been found yet, but this afternoon, Yi Han happened to run into that guy named Li and overheard his phone call."
"Sister Ou ran into Li Minxu?"
Jing Xiaocha was stunned for a second before realizing that Yi Han in Wen Jin’s mouth referred to Ou Yihan.
Wen Jin responded with an ’um’, "She’ll tell you what she heard later."
He had no intention of directly telling Jing Xiaocha.
Jing Xiaocha’s curiosity, however, was piqued by his previous words. She gazed at Wen Jin with clear eyes in surprise.
She didn’t understand why Wen Jin wouldn’t tell her directly.
Could it be that he was afraid she wouldn’t believe it?
Or perhaps Ou Yihan didn’t tell him what she heard?
Soon, Jing Xiaocha dismissed that latter guess, considering that Brother Wen and Sister Ou were in a relationship; how could Sister Ou not tell him?
Thinking of this, a small sense of loss crossed her heart; it seemed like Brother Wen just didn’t want to say anything.
On the way, Wen Jin didn’t speak again, only occasionally turning to look at Jing Xiaocha lost in thought in the passenger seat.
He deliberately chose not to tell her.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Ou Yihan had arrived before them and was sitting by the window, waving at them.
Wen Jin and Jing Xiaocha approached Ou Yihan’s table one after the other. Ou Yihan greeted and invited Xiaocha to sit down with a smile.
Jing Xiaocha sat next to Ou Yihan, while Wen Jin sat across from them.
After receiving the menu from the waiter, Wen Jin courteously let Ou Yihan order and kindly introduced, "The food at this restaurant is quite good; you’ve only just returned to the country, so you probably haven’t been here."
Ou Yihan giggled, "I really haven’t been here."
"Xiaocha, what do you like to eat?"
Afterward, she pushed the menu towards Jing Xiaocha, leaning over to look at it with her.
Jing Xiaocha smiled and shook her head, "Sister Ou, anything is fine with me; you can order whatever you like."
"Yi Han, you go ahead and order first. Today, you’re the hero of the day."
Wen Jin’s gentle brows creased slightly with a smile as he spoke kindly.
Ou Yihan gave him an embarrassed glance, "Then let’s each pick two dishes; it’s fair that way."
After saying this, she ordered two dishes and then asked Jing Xiaocha to order.
Jing Xiaocha shook her head, and without looking at the menu, Wen Jin directly told the waiter three dishes and a soup, all of which were Jing Xiaocha’s favorites.
"Wen Jin, why didn’t you let Xiaocha order?"
Ou Yihan looked at Wen Jin with dissatisfaction, feeling that he was bullying Xiaocha this way.
Jing Xiaocha’s heart skipped a beat due to Wen Jin remembering what she liked to eat, and she just stared at Wen Jin blankly, not hearing what Ou Yihan said.
Wen Jin replied calmly, "The three dishes I ordered, she eats all of them. Besides, if you don’t tell her what you heard within a minute, she probably wouldn’t be in the mood to order."
Ou Yihan blinked, "You didn’t tell Xiaocha?"
Wen Jin shook his head.
A flash of confusion crossed Ou Yihan’s eyes, but she didn’t think much of it and said to Jing Xiaocha, "Xiaocha, this afternoon when I was having coffee with a friend, I happened to see that editor Li Minxu you met that night."
"..."
Jing Xiaocha didn’t speak but quietly listened to Ou Yihan continue.
"Because he was at the table behind us, I overheard his phone call and he mentioned your name... and he said on the phone, ’Don’t worry, Miss Jin, even if Jing Xiaocha investigates, she won’t find any evidence to prove that I gave her outline to Man Tianxue...’
