Chapter 2118: Chapter 2117: I’m Not the Only One Hurt
Jing Xiaocha’s face was radiant with a smile, yet for some reason, a faint bitterness quietly arose in her heart.
This was clearly what she herself hoped for, but when Wen Jin actually agreed to let her do this, she couldn’t help feeling sad.
Wen Ran noticed the trace of gloom that flashed through Jing Xiaocha’s eyes. “Xiaocha, my brother has some matters at the pharmaceutical factory to deal with, so he returned to handle them. I’ll stay here with you today.”
“Sister Wen, you don’t need to stay here with me all day. There are nurses taking care of me anyway.”
Wen Ran smiled lightly and said nonchalantly, “I have nothing else to do. Qing Feng will bring Little Hui over to see you after school at noon. He’s been very worried about you.”
Just then, there was a knock on the door, and Wen Ran remembered that Jin Zheyu and Zheng Liangzhu were coming to visit her.
She glanced toward the door and whispered, “Xiaocha, Jin Zheyu and Zheng Shirui’s father are here. If you don’t want to see them, I’ll ask them to leave and not let them in.”
“Zheng Shirui’s father?”
Jing Xiaocha looked at Wen Ran in surprise, repeating her words.
Zheng Shirui hired someone to kidnap her, and her father couldn’t possibly be here to apologize, could he? If he’s not here to apologize, then the intention is obvious.
But since they’re already outside the door, they won’t leave just because she doesn’t want to see them.
After hesitating for a second, she said faintly, “Sister Wen, since they’re here, let them come in.”
Zheng Shirui’s father must be here for Zheng Shirui. If she doesn’t see him this time, he’ll come again next time. It’s better to clear things up once and for all.
Wen Ran nodded and went over to open the door. Sure enough, it was Zheng Liangzhu and Jin Zheyu standing outside.
Wen Ran glanced at them, stepped aside, and let them in.
Jin Zheyu came into the ward holding flowers.
His gaze immediately fell on Jing Xiaocha on the hospital bed, his long eyes filled with guilt.
His voice was laden with strong concern and apology, “Xiaocha, I only heard about what happened to you last night, so I rushed back overnight. How is your arm injury?”
Jing Xiaocha leaned against the elevated headboard. Because of the hospital gown she wore and the colors in the ward, her delicate face appeared slightly pale.
She appeared weak, making her seemingly more fragile and pitiable.
Zheng Liangzhu followed behind Jin Zheyu, and his gaze on Jing Xiaocha wasn’t filled with concern and guilt like Jin Zheyu’s, but rather with the sharpness and scrutiny of a businessman.
Having been in the business world for decades, he could tell at a glance that Jing Xiaocha was naive.
He glanced sideways at Wen Ran, who had walked to the bedside and stood beside Jing Xiaocha.
If Wen Ran weren’t present, it would be much easier to talk to Jing Xiaocha alone.
Jing Xiaocha was not only young but naive and probably hadn’t seen much of the world.
If he used some threats or enticements, she should agree to a private settlement.
Wen Ran did not miss the glance Zheng Liangzhu shot her way, yet she pretended not to notice it.
Having had the conversation at the elevator door earlier, Wen Ran, although unable to fully grasp Zheng Liangzhu’s intentions, could guess a thing or two about wanting to dismiss her to talk to Xiaocha alone.
Jing Xiaocha looked at Jin Zheyu with a calm gaze, saying softly, “Thank you, Senior, for your concern.”
“Xiaocha, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault you got hurt.”
Jin Zheyu said, lowering his head to look at the flowers in his hand, “These flowers are for you. Wishing you a speedy recovery.”
Novelnice∙com“I appreciate your concern, Senior, but there’s no need for flowers. It might cause unnecessary misunderstandings and provoke certain people’s resentment and extreme revenge.”
Upon these words from Jing Xiaocha, Zheng Liangzhu, who had been quietly scrutinizing her while standing beside Jin Zheyu, had a slight change in expression.
A cold glint flashed in his sharp eyes.
He spoke in a deep voice, “Miss Jing, I am Shirui’s father. I am very sorry for the harm Shirui’s impulsiveness caused you. I am here today with sincere apologies.”
The expression on Jing Xiaocha’s face lightened a bit, and her tone grew even softer, “I can’t bear the burden of Mr. Zheng’s apology. Zheng Shirui’s actions harmed not just me, but also Brother Wen’s girlfriend, Sister Ou. If Mr. Zheng truly wants to apologize, start with Sister Ou and Brother Wen.”
“This…”
Zheng Liangzhu hadn’t expected Jing Xiaocha to so easily and subtly refuse his attempt to negotiate.
His eyes narrowed, pondering if he had misjudged her.
Could it be that Jing Xiaocha wasn’t as naive as she seemed on the surface?
“Young Master Jin, since Xiaocha has said to apologize, start with Yi Han and my brother first, so take Mr. Zheng to Yi Han’s ward next door. Xiaocha just finished her IV and now needs to rest.”
With Wen Ran’s dismissal, Jin Zheyu didn’t feel comfortable staying any longer.
The flowers remained in his hand, and since Xiaocha didn’t want to accept them, he couldn’t force her to take them.
He turned to say to Zheng Liangzhu, “Uncle, please go to the ward next door to apologize to Miss Ou. Xiaocha needs to rest. Let’s not disturb her.”
After speaking, he gently reminded Jing Xiaocha, “Xiaocha, make sure to rest well. I’ll come to see you this afternoon.”
“There’s no need for you to come, Senior.”
Without a second thought, Jing Xiaocha declined Jin Zheyu’s offer of kindness.
It also served to let Zheng Liangzhu know that she never had any interest in Jin Zheyu from the beginning, and it was his daughter, Zheng Shirui, who was narrow-minded and retaliated against her in a vindictive manner.
As astute as Zheng Liangzhu is, he doesn’t need Jing Xiaocha to say anything directly; with just a few implicit hints, he understands.
He regarded Jing Xiaocha with a bit more scrutiny.
Though this girl appeared simple, she was not simple at all.
Her seemingly calm words held underlying meanings with every sentence.
After a moment of silence, Zheng Liangzhu spoke warmly, “Then, Miss Jing, have a good rest. I’ll visit the ward next door to see Miss Ou and be back later. I understand that you have been both physically and mentally harmed, and this is all my daughter’s fault. If you have any demands or require compensation, please do let me know.”
“Mr. Zheng, you may not know, but I’m currently a patient, so it’s not appropriate for me to worry about anything. Therefore, everything is being handled by my lawyer.”
Jing Xiaocha’s response left Zheng Liangzhu a bit annoyed.
He felt she was being obstinate, showing a lack of appreciation.
She was just a girl without power or influence, thinking she was somebody simply because she knew people like Wen Jin and Mo Xiuchen.
If it weren’t for the people like Wen Jin and Mo Xiuchen around her, Zheng Liangzhu wouldn’t have to come personally to negotiate with her; he would have his ways to make her agree to a private settlement on her own.
The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he felt.
The cheerful facade on his face was hard to maintain.
Watching the change in Zheng Liangzhu’s expression, Jin Zheyu’s gaze cooled, “Uncle, let’s leave, and let Xiaocha rest well.”
Not caring whether Zheng Liangzhu agreed or not, Jin Zheyu turned and walked toward the door with the flowers in hand.
Wen Ran did not look at Jin Zheyu and Zheng Liangzhu but rather lowered the elevated headboard for Jing Xiaocha, speaking softly, “Xiaocha, get some rest.”
