Chapter 2142: Chapter 2141: You Agreed?

Kangning Hospital

After Jin Zheyu left, Wen Jin’s call came through.

Jing Xiaocha had initially intended to call Wen Jin, but he unexpectedly called first. Seeing the incoming call display, she hesitated for two seconds before pressing the answer button.

"Hello, Brother Wen."

Jing Xiaocha’s voice was soft and gentle, like a breeze outside the window.

As soon as she finished speaking, Wen Jin’s voice came through, deep and gentle, laced with concern, "Xiaocha, did Jin Zheyu come to see you?"

Since the afternoon when Zhang Jinlei and Wang Huanhuan visited, Wen Jin had instructed the special nursing assistant to inform him if anyone unrelated came to see Jing Xiaocha.

Jing Xiaocha was not surprised that Wen Jin knew about Jin Zheyu’s visit to the hospital, but felt a little guilty. Brother Wen had hired a lawyer for her and never compromised even when Zheng Liangzhu annoyed him.

Yet she had agreed to Jin Zheyu’s request to drop the lawsuit against Zheng Shirui.

"Brother Wen, are you free at noon?" Thinking of this, Jing Xiaocha instead asked a question, her tone indicating that it was something important.

On the other end, a hint of doubt flashed in Wen Jin’s eyes, but he responded warmly, "I’ll head over to the hospital after I get off work, and have lunch with you at noon."

Half an hour later, Wen Jin appeared in the hospital room.

Jing Xiaocha was looking at her phone when she saw Wen Jin push the door open. Afraid of a misunderstanding, she quickly explained, "Brother Wen, I wasn’t using my phone to write a novel, I was just checking messages."

Wen Jin noticed her nervousness and worry, and his brows lightly furrowed.

Before he could say anything, Jing Xiaocha hurriedly added, "Brother Wen, I’m telling the truth. If you don’t believe me, take a look."

As she spoke, she handed her phone over to Wen Jin.

Wen Jin approached her bedside, took Jing Xiaocha’s phone, but didn’t look at it. Instead, he placed it on the small bedside table, "Are you that afraid of me?"

"I... I’m not."

Jing Xiaocha was stunned by his question.

She was indeed afraid because the night Wen Jin left in anger, she felt both sad and wronged.

Seeing the emotions in her eyes, Wen Jin felt a slight tightness in his chest, recalling the night he left.

"There’s no need to be so afraid of me, I’m not a tiger."

With a sigh of resignation, Wen Jin sat down by her bedside.

Jing Xiaocha lowered her eyes, lightly pressing her lips together.

In truth, fear stemmed from care.

If he wasn’t Wen Jin, the man she loved despicably, why would she fear his anger or let her emotions be affected by him?

"Xiaocha?"

Wen Jin looked at her, with her downcast eyes and pitiful demeanor, feeling a bit uncomfortable inside.

He preferred seeing her smile, whether it was playful, silly, or bright and sunny.

All of them were adorable.

Jing Xiaocha looked up and met Wen Jin’s deep, dark eyes. She pressed her lips together and softly said, "Brother Wen, there’s something I need to tell you."

"What is it?"

Wen Jin’s lips slightly curved as he looked at her warmly.

"This morning, Jin Zheyu came to see me about Zheng Shirui. He asked me to drop the lawsuit against her."

Jing Xiaocha felt she owed Wen Jin, so her voice grew softer towards the end.

Wen Jin narrowed his eyes, staring at her intently, "Did you agree?"

When he asked this, a mysterious anger arose within him. He didn’t know why, but the thought of her agreeing to Jin Zheyu made him angry.

Hearing the displeasure in his tone, Jing Xiaocha’s eyes flickered, avoiding his sharp gaze. She lowered her eyes to look at her hands on the quilt, "I agreed to him. I’ve already called Lawyer Li..."

"Jing Xiaocha, have you lost your mind, or is Jin Zheyu so important to you that for him, you’d drop the lawsuit against Zheng Shirui, and give her another chance to hurt you?"

Jing Xiaocha hadn’t finished when Wen Jin interrupted her with a harsh voice.

His anger came as swiftly as lightning.

He swiftly rose from his chair, towering over Jing Xiaocha. His handsome face clouded by her words, his gaze now full of anger instead of warmth.

Jing Xiaocha was truly shaken by his anger.

She had tried predicting Wen Jin’s reaction upon hearing this news, but didn’t expect him to be so furious.

"Brother Wen, please let me explain."

"Explain, what’s there to explain? Yesterday, when Zhang Jinlei and Wang Huanhuan came to persuade you, you refused them without hesitation, not succumbing to their threats. Today, a few words from Jin Zheyu changed your mind. Jing Xiaocha, I must have been mistaken about you. Fine, if you want to drop it, drop it. I’m tired of meddling in your affairs."

Jing Xiaocha’s face suddenly turned pale.

Looking at Wen Jin’s iron face, she found all her prepared explanations stuck in her throat, unable to utter a word.

After saying those words, Wen Jin left in a fit of anger, slamming the door behind him.

Jing Xiaocha’s nose twitched, and her eyes welled up with tears.

She called out "Wen..." but the last words couldn’t come out as the sound of the door slamming shut reached her ears.

Jing Xiaocha pressed her lips tightly, looking up at the white ceiling, forcing back the tears in her eyes.

She could understand why Wen Jin was angry, but it still saddened her that he left without listening to her explanation. This wasn’t the first time.

Leaving her seemed to have become a habit for him.

Whenever he’s angry, he leaves her.

Wen Jin reached the elevator entrance just as Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen, followed by a group of children, stepped out from it.

"Second Uncle."

"Uncle Wen."

"Second Uncle..."

The children’s voices rang out simultaneously. Wen Jin hadn’t had time to conceal his anger when Wen Ran noticed, and immediately became clear-headed.

A trace of regret arose in his heart.

"Brother, what’s wrong? Did you get into a fight with Xiaocha?"

Wen Ran asked with concern, her eyes suspiciously fixed on Wen Jin.

Mo Xiuchen slightly raised his brows, a sharp glint flashing through his deep eyes.

Wen Jin quickly composed himself and replied nonchalantly, "I’m fine. Ranran, Xiuchen, why did you bring the kids to the hospital? Are their exams over?"

"Uncle Wen, we finished our exams."

Zhang Minghui answered first.

Ziyi started yawning again.

Wen Ran glanced at the direction of Jing Xiaocha’s room, "Brother, we brought these kids to see Xiaocha. You should come back to the room and sit with us for a while, then we can go have lunch together."

"I’m going downstairs to see Yihan, so I won’t return to the room with you," Wen Jin refused Wen Ran’s suggestion without thinking. After a moment, feeling his words might have been inappropriate, he added, "I have a lot to take care of this afternoon, not much time at noon. Ranran, you go on."

He wanted to find out if Ou Yihan had also agreed to Jin Zheyu not to sue Zheng Shirui.

Did Jin Zheyu approach Jing Xiaocha and then Ou Yihan, or did Jing Xiaocha help persuade Ou Yihan on Jin Zheyu’s behalf? Or perhaps, Ou Yihan still insisted on pursuing the lawsuit, to bring Zheng Shirui to justice.

Wen Ran’s eyes flashed. She couldn’t ask too many questions in front of the children, so she let them go ahead to the room to see Xiaocha before asking, "Brother, did you really get angry with Xiaocha?"
