Chapter 2221: Chapter 25: The Truth from Years Ago
S City
Qin Qingqing’s phone rang when she was at the airport, waving at Tang Jinchen, who was emerging from security.
“Qingqing.”
Tang Jinchen walked quickly towards her, arms spread, waiting for her.
Qin Qingqing, however, smiled slyly and bypassing his hug, took out her phone to check the caller ID.
“Qingqing, you’re really not giving me face.”
Tang Jinchen pretended to be hurt, but the expression lasted barely five seconds before he laughed again.
“My dad is calling. Does he know you came to S City to see me?”
Qin Qingqing’s eyes flickered as she pointed to the name on the screen, asking the tall Tang Jinchen next to her.
The latter shook his head, “I haven’t even called Uncle yet.”
Qin Qingqing pressed the answer button, taking the call while walking side by side with Tang Jinchen. She heard her father, Qin Mu’s voice on the phone, “Qingqing, did Jinchen come to see you?”
“Dad, I’m with Cousin right now.”
Beside her, Tang Jinchen raised a handsome brow but said nothing.
“Weren’t you in S City?”
“Dad, how did you know?” Qin Qingqing was surprised but then suddenly realized, frowning, “Dad, Cousin came to S City to see me. If you don’t believe it, I’ll let Cousin talk to you.”
“Uncle, I’m really with Qingqing, you don’t have to worry about her.”
Tang Jinchen received a look from Qin Qingqing and took the phone to say a few words to Qin Mu.
Qin Mu didn’t probe further. Once he confirmed they were together, he was relieved.
After a few reminders, he directly hung up the call.
He didn’t even say another word to Qin Qingqing.
“My dad just hung up like that?”
Seated in the taxi, Qin Qingqing looked at the phone Tang Jinchen handed her, feeling quite frustrated.
Tang Jinchen laughed, “What else do you want? Do you want Uncle Qin to fly to S City to see you or pick you up?”
“That’s not what I meant, but at least my dad should’ve let me say another word.” Qin Qingqing put the phone in her bag.
“Where are we going now?”
“Of course, we’re going to get a hotel room. I plan to play around here for a few days, don’t you have a few days off?”
“Yes, for a week.”
“I don’t need you to spend the whole week with me, just three days will do. We’ll enjoy all of S City’s food and entertainment, then return to G City.”
Since I’ve come here, I can’t go back empty-handed.
Nor can I mistreat myself just because that person left me here.
Most of the time, Qin Qingqing was optimistic and even resilient, eating and drinking as she pleased.
“Qingqing, Uncle mentioned over the phone that Mo Ziye went to the Imperial City with his girlfriend, what’s that about?”
Forty-five minutes later.
Tang Jinchen leaned against the hotel door frame, his tall body blocking the doorway, eyes sharply fixed on Qin Qingqing.
Already inside the room, Qin Qingqing heard his words and felt her body stiffen slightly.
After a moment, her expression changed subtly, her clear eyes turning to Tang Jinchen, “Cousin, what did my dad say to you?”
Tang Jinchen’s eyes fleetingly showed a trace of curiosity, staring at her for a few seconds before asking, “Why didn’t you tell me Mo Ziye left you here?”
“Left? I was just joking with you. He is now involved with Shi Xi, and naturally, he’s prioritizing her. Shi Xi’s grandmother is sick, and it’s only natural he accompanies her back to the Imperial City.”
“Qingqing, can you really stand Mo Ziye being with another woman, flaunting their affection in front of you?”
Tang Jinchen’s words seemed calm, but they were like a sharp blade.
Directly piercing into Qin Qingqing’s heart.
Qin Qingqing’s dark pupils suddenly shrank, her ruby lips pursed lightly, and her eyes lowered.
One second later, on her delicate face bloomed a carefree smile, “Cousin, Brother Ziye and I broke up four years ago. Him loving, marrying, and having children with another woman has been within my expectations for a long time; there’s nothing I can’t take.”
“So, you mean you’ve already moved on from Mo Ziye?”
“…”
“No need to answer anymore. Your hesitation has already betrayed your feelings.” Tang Jinchen, a veteran from the special forces, wasn’t someone easily swayed.
Suddenly stepping forward, he grabbed Qin Qingqing.
“Cousin!”
Qin Qingqing exclaimed urgently like a startled rabbit.
“We’re going to the Imperial City right now, ask Mo Ziye whether he wants the woman named Shi or to be with you.”
“Cousin, no.”
Qin Qingqing struggled desperately, her head shaking like a rattle.
“Why not?” Tang Jinchen looked deeply into Qin Qingqing’s eyes, “When did you become so timid? Was it when you broke up four years ago, after Auntie’s passing, or because Mo Ziye fell for someone else?”
With each word he spoke, Qin Qingqing’s face turned paler.
Until finally, tears welled up in her eyes, causing Tang Jinchen’s gaze to tighten as he sighed with pity, “Qingqing, I don’t want you to regret it in the future. If you don’t want to be with Mo Ziye again, then forget him completely and stop approaching him.”
“I’m not.”
Qin Qingqing shook her head.
Seeing Tang Jinchen loosen his grip, she withdrew her hand, sniffing and feigning indifference, “Cousin, you’re overthinking. Brother Ziye and I ended things four years ago.”
“It’s not your fault. Later on, I heard from Uncle it was all because of Mo Xin. If she hadn’t had intentions towards Mo Ziye and didn’t deliberately act out to make you misunderstand, you wouldn’t have been misled.”
Tang Jinchen resented Mo Ziye, feeling that he handled the situation wrongly as a man, “Mo Ziye professed his love for you, yet when you misunderstood, he didn’t even utter a word of explanation, and even when you ran off, he didn’t chase after you.”
“Cousin, don’t say anymore. Those things are in the past.”
Qin Qingqing’s eyes were filled with sorrow.
She still remembered the day Mo Ziye returned from his business trip.
While he was away, Xin Xin insisted she accompany her to a classmate’s birthday party.
The next day, photos of her with a senior suddenly appeared online, shot at angles that seemed quite intimate.
When Mo Ziye called her, the two argued.
He came back two days early.
Qin Qingqing was staying at her parents’ home those days. When she received Xin Xin’s message that Mo Ziye was back, she found out he had returned.
She intended to explain everything to him face-to-face.
Immediately she ran to the Mo family.
Unexpectedly, when she went upstairs and pushed open Mo Ziye’s door, she saw clothes scattered on the floor…
Her mind went blank with a boom—
The next second, seeing Xin Xin coming out of the bathroom, she turned pale, looking towards the bed, and saw Mo Ziye sitting up.
“Brother Ziye… How could you two do such a disgusting thing?”
Mo Ziye heard her questioning words, his face darkened, lip tightly pursed, and offered no explanation.
