Chapter 2487 - 291
Chapter 2487: Chapter 291
Wen Ran originally felt the same way.
When Momo hadn’t returned, she felt nothing was more important than being alive herself.
But now that Momo was enduring such pain, Wen Ran’s heartache was indescribable despite any words. After a few more minutes, she finally couldn’t wait any longer and stood up.
Wen Jin didn’t stop her this time, he simply offered to accompany her upstairs with a gentle tone.
After Tang Jinchen left, Momo fainted.
When she woke up, she was already lying in a hospital bed.
Seeing Mo Xiuchen sitting by the bed, holding her hand with a pained expression on his face.
Momo felt a sharp pain in her heart.
Tears welled up in her eyes.
"Dad, I’m sorry."
"You have nothing to apologize for, it’s me who didn’t protect you well." Mo Xiuchen looked at his daughter with heartache, seeing her frail and exhausted look. This was just the beginning, and she had already lost a lot of weight.
Wen Ran soon pushed the door open and entered.
Mo Xiuchen stood up, gave her a few instructions, and asked Wen Ran to stay in the ward with Momo while he went out for a while.
"Mom, has Tang Jinchen left?"
After Mo Xiuchen’s footsteps faded down the corridor, Momo softly asked Wen Ran.
Wen Ran’s hand slightly paused on Momo’s hair, and looking into her eyes filled with worry and other emotions, she smiled gently and said, "He’s already gone."
"Mom, I don’t want Ye Zhan to know about my current state."
"Rest assured, I told him not to let Ye Zhan know. How did you faint, where does it hurt, don’t hide it from us, okay?"
"Mom, I want to call Tang Jinchen."
"Alright."
Wen Ran got up to get Momo’s phone.
——
Tang Jinchen booked a flight back to the Imperial City for the evening.
He had just gotten into the car when he received Momo’s call, not letting Gu Zhitong, who was in a bad mood, drive him to the airport.
The driver from the Gu Family drove him.
Since he had saved Momo’s number before, he slightly changed his expression when he saw the caller ID, pressed the answer button, and spoke gently, "Hello, Momo."
"It’s me."
Momo’s voice wasn’t as gentle and calm as usual, imbued with a faint hint of weakness.
Hearing it, Tang Jinchen naturally recalled the painful and distressed scene he had witnessed at her home.
His grip on the phone tightened slightly, and after a moment, he curved his lips into a slight smile, "Momo, is there something you need from me?"
"Tang Jinchen, although I’ve already told you once, I still want to repeat it, don’t tell Ye Zhan."
"Momo, why don’t you let Ah Zhan be with you? You’re suffering because of him, he should be there with you."
"No, I don’t want him to see me like this. I’ve already made many people sad for me, I don’t want to add another one."
Momo’s voice was soft and gentle. Having one more person know about her current state wouldn’t lessen her pain at all; it would only bring him sadness or guilt.
This wasn’t what she wanted.
She loved that man, and she didn’t want him to give up anything because of her.
"Momo, you may not need Ah Zhan, but Ah Zhan needs you."
The phone fell into silence.
Tang Jinchen couldn’t see Momo’s expression, but the silence made him feel a sense of unease.
Ye Zhan and Momo clearly loved each other. He didn’t want them to break up for other reasons. Whether it was Ye Zhan or Momo, breaking up wouldn’t bring happiness.
However, Momo’s silence made him less certain about whether telling her these things was right.
"He’s fainted, aren’t you going back to see him?"
After a long while, Momo’s voice finally came again.
It didn’t carry much emotion, nor concern, just a faint tiredness.
"I’m on my way to the airport right now, heading back to the Imperial City tonight. Momo, Ah Zhan had a fallout with his father. Apart from you, there’s no one else who can make him rest and recover properly."
"I understand."
"Momo, I don’t want to make things difficult for you. If you no longer like Ah Zhan, consider that I never said anything."
"Don’t tell him. I’ll call him later."
Tang Jinchen wasn’t entirely sure what Momo wanted to say to Ye Zhan, and after ending the call, he made another call to Chu Junming.
Chu Junming told him that Ye Zhan had just woken up.
A moment later, Ye Zhan’s voice came through the phone, "Jinchen, what’s up?"
"I’m checking if you’re dead yet."
Tang Jinchen’s tone was filled with undisguised sarcasm.
The response was Ye Zhan’s indifferent laugh. Even though he’d fainted not long ago, he seemed unfazed now, "Do you think it’s that easy for me to die?"
"I’ll be there tonight."
"You’ve changed professions, why not stay in G City with Gu Zhitong, why are you coming back? If it’s to see me, we could video call now, you don’t need to make a trip."
"Would a video call with me make you obediently recuperate, without causing trouble for yourself and those around you?"
Tang Jinchen retorted with unreserved sarcasm.
"Did you see Momo?"
After a pause of a second, Ye Zhan’s voice came again, carrying a touch of concern and suppressed longing.
"I did."
"When?" His tone was urgent and laced with some repressed emotion, even across the phone.
Tang Jinchen pursed his lips, not immediately responding.
