Chapter 2494 - 298
Chapter 2494: Chapter 298
"Big brother, is there still no news of sister-in-law?"
After a few drinks, Feng Yize held his wine glass in one hand, tilting his head to look at Ye Zhan across from him.
Over the past year, he had become more mature and handsome, with an air of restraint and calm, while still maintaining a distant indifference that kept people at bay.
Ye Zhan put down his chopsticks and raised his glass to his lips, but didn’t drink. The rim of the glass merely brushed his lips, while his lowered eyes betrayed no emotion.
A second later, his deep and calm voice echoed in the not-so-large private room, "No."
"Uncle Mo and Aunt Wen have returned; sister-in-law will definitely come back too."
Earlier this year, after Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran returned, Ye Zhan went abroad once but didn’t find Momo.
His lips curled into a faint smile, and his eyes looked at the rippling liquid in the glass as he said gently, "I know she will come back sooner or later."
"Big brother, I visited Grandpa Ye at the hospital this afternoon. The doctor said there are signs that he might wake up soon."
"I know."
G City, Mo family.
Mo Ziye returned home after a social engagement and heard his father, Mo Xiuchen, talking on the phone on the living room sofa.
He raised his eyebrows and walked over with a smile, asking, "Dad, is it sister’s call?"
To be honest, ever since last year’s incident, Mo Ziye’s way of addressing Momo had become more respectful; he no longer called her Momo.
Mo Xiuchen nodded with a smile and handed him the phone, "You talk to your sister."
"Is Zirui asleep?"
"He went to bed at nine."
Zirui is Mo Ziye and Qingqing’s son, named Mo Zirui, a delightful baby who inherited the best qualities of Mo Ziye and Qingqing.
Mo Ziye took the phone, and before he could speak, he heard Momo’s cheerful voice on the other end, "I just had a video call with Zirui, Ziye, I find Zirui much cuter than you were at his age."
"Were you born a few years earlier or something to know if I was cute at Zirui’s age?"
Mo Ziye retorted unceremoniously.
Momo’s voice rang out naturally, "Of course I know, I was born a few minutes earlier than you."
"Did you call just to amuse me across the Pacific Ocean?"
Mo Ziye laughed heartily, his long body leaning into the sofa, and he pressed his temples lightly.
Seeing this, Mo Xiuchen poured him a glass of water and asked if he wanted something to eat. Mo Ziye said he wanted noodles.
Mo Xiuchen went to the kitchen to cook noodles.
In the living room, Mo Ziye lounged on the sofa, smiling at Momo’s account of his childhood ’misdeeds’ on the phone.
He suddenly interrupted her to ask, "When will you come back?"
"Do you miss me?"
"Yes, I want to see if you’re still as thin as a stick."
"You’re the one who’s like a stick."
"Huo Song is practically a frequent guest at our house now; why don’t you come back and settle for him?"
"I don’t know if he’s become a frequent guest, but you’re certainly the persuader," Momo’s disgusted voice carried a hint of annoyance.
Mo Ziye wasn’t bothered by her displeasure and laughed, "Are you going to wait for Zirui to grow up before coming back? Sister Tongtong is waiting for you to get married before she ties the knot. If you turn her into an old maid, Tang Jinchen will be upset with you."
"No way."
"So when will you come back?"
Mo Ziye brought the phone to his face and pressed the speakerphone button.
There was a moment of silence on the call.
When Momo’s voice returned, it was five seconds later, "In a few months at least, once I’ve gained back my previous weight."
"Alright, make sure to eat more during this period. With Mom and Dad not around, don’t mistreat yourself. Call me if you need anything."
In the past year, Mo Ziye had visited Momo three times.
Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran had gone once before they returned to the country. After they returned, he went twice, not entirely at ease with Momo being abroad.
Because of Momo going abroad, Gu Zinan’s plan to return to the country had to be postponed, but Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran stopped him, so he already returned last year.
"Don’t worry, I’ll definitely find you if I need to, even in the middle of the night. I won’t be polite."
The siblings talked until Mo Xiuchen brought out the noodles, ending the call.
"Dad, take a seat and rest."
Mo Ziye placed Mo Xiuchen’s phone on the coffee table and pulled the noodles forward, speaking before eating.
"Didn’t the social engagement go well tonight?"
Mo Xiuchen sat on the opposite sofa, his gaze gentle as he watched Mo Ziye eat noodles.
Mo Ziye shook his head, swallowed the noodles, then asked seriously, "Dad, do you know who took over Huang Qingshui’s position before?"
"I don’t know."
Mo Xiuchen answered lightly.
The higher-ups hadn’t decided, and he hadn’t inquired.
Seeing Mo Ziye frown, Mo Xiuchen asked in surprise, "From your expression, could it be someone unfavorable to Haochen?"
"Ye Zhan."
"..."
Mo Ziye’s words made Mo Xiuchen’s expression change slightly.
Ye Zhan came to G City?
And in that position.
Mo Xiuchen felt the need to digest this information.
"Dad, are you also surprised? I couldn’t quite believe it when I heard, but it’s true."
"A bit surprised, but not too surprised either."
Mo Xiuchen said thoughtfully.
Over the past year, Ye Zhan had been searching for Momo.
Ye Zhan was a capable man. If not for the Mo family’s influence and deliberate attempt to keep Momo’s whereabouts from him, he would have likely found her already.
"Ye Zhan rejected the president’s offer and came to G City. He’s obviously here for my sister."
"Ziye, it wasn’t his fault originally. Don’t hold a grudge against him."
Mo Xiuchen sighed.
Thinking about Momo’s days that seemed like life-and-death experiences, the pain he felt for her was beyond words.
Like Mo Ziye, he was extremely angry with the Ye family’s actions back then.
But he clearly understood this had nothing to do with Ye Zhan.
He was genuinely sincere to Momo.
"He says he loves my sister, but he doesn’t truly understand her."
"He may not know Momo like you do, but he has no better option."
If Ye Zhan came to G City for Momo, he would have considered various factors before choosing this path.
"Dad, I visited my sister last time, and she’s really completely recovered, and doing very well. Why not let her come back? It’s not as good outside as it is at home."
"Didn’t you just ask your sister?"
"She said she’ll come back once she regains her pre-departure weight."
"Then let her stay out for a while longer; there’s no rush to come back."
