Chapter 2631: Chapter 435: Are You Really Going Back for a Blind Date? (Extra 6)
Across the table, Chu Junming finally lifted his handsome face from his phone.
He looked over at Bai Qingling across the table.
Seeing her talking on the phone in a very good mood, eyes and brows full of smiles, his gaze shifted slightly, and he stood up, pulling his chair back a bit.
His low voice sounded, “I’m going to the restroom.”
“Oh.”
Bai Qingling nodded at Chu Junming.
He turned around and left the private room.
…
A few minutes later, when Chu Junming came back, Bai Qingling had already finished her call.
The waiter followed behind Chu Junming, coming in to serve the dishes.
“I’m going back to the Imperial City tomorrow. Do you have time to work overtime tonight?”
As he picked up his chopsticks to take some food, Chu Junming asked Bai Qingling.
Bai Qingling glanced at him.
She stuffed the food into her mouth.
He seemed to need her to cooperate with him on overtime every single time. She nodded. “I’ve got time. Weren’t you going to stay in G City for a while? Why are you leaving so soon? Did something happen at the company?”
“You can’t bear to see me go?”
Instead of answering, Chu Junming shot the question back at her, a faint arc tugging at the corner of his mouth.
Bai Qingling was stunned for a second.
The way he looked right now had an indescribable charm.
She shook her head. “You’re overthinking it.”
The curve at Chu Junming’s mouth faded. He took a bite of food before casually answering her earlier question, “Got some personal matters to deal with back home. If you’ve got plans tonight and don’t want to work overtime, we can just go back and work after this meal too. Same difference.”
“No plans. Let’s work tonight.”
Bai Qingling wanted to have a proper meal; she didn’t want to head back to work after just ten minutes without even eating her fill.
Chu Junming raised a brow.
He picked up a piece of meat and dropped it into her bowl. “Then thanks in advance for cooperating tonight.”
“You’re welcome.”
Bai Qingling flashed him a smile.
“When are you coming next time?”
“Not sure.”
“Oh.”
Bai Qingling thought of what Ziyang had said, telling her to treat Chu Junming a bit better these days.
In case he changed his mind and she ended up having gotten drunk for nothing yesterday, she lowered her head and started shoveling white rice into her mouth.
On the surface, Chu Junming always looked easy to talk to, but once he went cold and distant, he was really not easy to coax.
Maybe she should just forget it.
As she thought this, she kept stuffing rice into her mouth.
Without realizing it, she had already scraped the bottom of her small bowl clean.
She was about to reach for the glass of water next to her when she noticed Chu Junming across from her, holding his chopsticks and looking at her with a puzzled expression.
“You don’t need any dishes with your rice?”
Bai Xiaoxiao forced a smile. “The rice here is really good. Why don’t you try some too? Honestly, you can get full even without eating any dishes.”
Chu Junming gave her a look and pushed some dishes into her bowl. “Don’t waste it.”
…
In the afternoon, Feng Yize showed up in Chu Junming’s office.
It happened to be when Chu Junming had just finished his work and had time to receive him.
The two of them sat on the sofa drinking coffee, and Chu Junming said to him, “I’m going back to the Imperial City tomorrow.”
“Huh? Didn’t you say you were going to stay a few more days?”
Feng Yize looked at Chu Junming in surprise.
That was what they’d agreed on before coming.
“There are some things I have to go back to deal with.” Chu Junming took a sip of tea, set the cup on the table, but his fingers didn’t leave it, idly tracing along the rim.
“Oh? Personal stuff?”
“Yeah.”
Chu Junming nodded, not in the best of moods.
Feng Yize narrowed his eyes at him and suddenly asked, “Third Brother, don’t tell me Auntie’s pushing you to go on blind dates again?”
Chu Junming had actually been nagged about this for many years.
But back when all Four Young Masters of the Capital were still single, the pressure hadn’t been that bad.
Ever since Ye Zhan and Tang Jinchen both got into relationships, the pressure on Chu Junming had gotten intense.
And not long ago, when his mother found out that Feng Yize also had a girl he liked—even if he hadn’t managed to win her over yet—at least he had a target.
Only Chu Junming was still living like a long-term ascetic. Mother Chu, afraid that he’d “ascetic” himself into some kind of problem, had become even more invested in his marital prospects.
Now that Ye Zhan and Tang Jinchen were both married, that went without saying.
Chu Junming cast Feng Yize a faint sidelong glance, a layer of cool detachment gathering between his brows as he answered, “More or less.”
“What do you mean ‘more or less’? Third Brother, are you really going back for a blind date?”
Feng Yize frowned, not understanding.
“No.”
“Then why are you still going back?”
Feng Yize felt like his Third Brother must have gone stupid.
If you’re not going on a blind date, what are you running back for? Aren’t you supposed to be hiding out and not going home?
Being stared at with that “you idiot” look, Chu Junming got even more depressed. He poured himself another glass of water and knocked it back in one gulp.
He gave him a cool look. “How are things going with you and Qinghuan?”
At the mention of Qinghuan, Feng Yize’s whole demeanor warmed, his spirits brightening. “Pretty good. Yesterday Qinghuan helped Big Brother and Second Brother each paint a portrait. Oh right, I asked her to paint one for us too.”
After leaving the hospital yesterday, Feng Yize went with Qinghuan to her studio.
He helped Qinghuan with the prep work, then sat quietly to the side, watching her paint.
When Qinghuan painted, she was very focused. Feng Yize was a transparent presence for quite a while, but he was happy to be; since these were commemorative paintings for Ye Zhan’s and the others’ weddings, Qinghuan was especially meticulous.
Compared to her usual painting time, it took twice as long. By the time she finished those pieces, it was already ten at night.
“Really?”
The corners of Chu Junming’s mouth lifted slightly. Feng Yize had come back to the hotel very late last night.
He hadn’t gone to his room.
“Of course. When have I ever lied to you? Third Brother, I took photos first and sent them to you so you can have a look. Do you want to bring them home when you go back tomorrow?”
Qinghuan had said she’d have them framed before handing them over.
Chu Junming thought for a moment. “No need. Just leave them at the studio for now. Big Brother and Second Brother are going to settle down in G City from now on. They probably won’t be going back to the Imperial City to live long-term. Our two villas will start renovation in the next few days. Once the work’s done and the place has been aired out and is ready to move into, we’ll just put the paintings in there.”
“Since when did that happen, Third Brother? You’ve already got people working on the renovations?”
Their villas were right next door to Ye Zhan’s and Tang Jinchen’s.
Since Chu Junming had been handling everything from the start, if he didn’t say anything, Feng Yize really wouldn’t know.
Chu Junming smiled faintly. “I originally wanted you to handle it, but you’ve been so busy, so I just contacted a renovation company. If you’re busy, you don’t need to worry about it. Just swing by for a look when you have time.”
“What about the style…”
“The style is based on Qinghuan’s preferences. You shouldn’t have any objections, right? If you’re not at ease, you can take Qinghuan over to check it out beforehand.”
“How do you know what Qinghuan likes?”
Feng Yize’s question earned him an eye-roll from Chu Junming.
“You’ve got a mouth under your nose, don’t you? Qinghuan’s not some mysterious leader. There are plenty of people around who know her well. How hard is it to find out what she likes?”
“All right, all right, Third Brother, you’re amazing.”
Feng Yize gave him a sincere thumbs-up.
Third Brother treated him so well, he was really touched.
“Third Brother, if you really don’t want to go on blind dates, I can talk to Auntie for you.”
Feng Yize’s gift of gab might not be the best among the four of them, but he was definitely the best at coaxing elders.
Whether it was Feng Wanfeng, Old Master Ye, or Chu Junming’s parents, they all liked Feng Yize very much.
Chu Junming gave him a meaningful look. “What you need to do is hurry up and get together with Qinghuan.”
