Chapter 2669 - 473: I Really Care About These Legs
Chapter 2669 - 473: I Really Care About These Legs
The phone rang several times, but no one answered.
Chu Junming’s tall and upright figure stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, his thoughts drifting beyond the city’s nightscape to some unknown place.
The phone kept ringing until it stopped, and his grip tightened.
The Gu Family
As soon as Gu Zinan entered the living room, he saw his father, Gu Kai, waiting for him on the sofa.
He blinked and walked over with a grin, "Dad, why are you alone? Has Mom gone to bed?"
Gu Kai pointed to the sofa across from him, gesturing for him to sit down.
Gu Zinan, handsome and roguish, sat on the sofa without a care, crossing his legs.
"What’s the deal with your post on Moments?"
Gu Kai looked at his posture and couldn’t help but frown.
Gu Zinan smiled and drawled, "Dad, you saw my Moments! That photo was just taken tonight when I dropped Qingling off home."
"I’m asking why you posted it, don’t beat around the bush with me."
Gu Kai felt he hadn’t disciplined his son strictly enough, leading him to think crookedly.
"Dad, I really just posted a photo on Moments. I’m leaving for abroad next week, and Qingling is reluctant to see me go."
"What does Ziyi’s comment mean then? Do you want me to call Ziyi to ask?" Gu Kai asked seriously, restraining his expression.
Seeing his father getting angry, Gu Zinan finally became a bit more serious, "Dad, I know what you’re worried about. We’re just joking around. Rest assured, I only see Qingling as a sister, and she certainly has no intentions towards me."
If there were any intentions, they would’ve surfaced long ago.
They grew up together, just like Qingling said, being too familiar makes it impossible to act on thoughts.
Not everyone is as twisted as a cousin who keeps his girlfriend by his side from childhood.
Gu Kai took another look at Gu Zinan.
Relieved, he said, "It’s better that way. You’re about to go abroad for two years. If you stir up trouble with Qingling at this juncture, I’ll break your legs and make sure you can’t leave."
"And then?"
"There’s no ’then’.
Gu Zinan stood up and said, "I care a lot about these legs."
"Delete it later."
"Dad, I’m not a kid."
"If you were a kid, I’d make you delete it? I’d just take it and delete it myself."
Gu Kai squinted and added, "Chu Junming is quite good to Qingling. Your Aunt Bai used to like Chu Junming a lot. Regardless of your intentions, delete it."
"Alright, I’ll delete it."
Gu Zinan, in front of Gu Kai, deleted the post on Moments, then turned back halfway up the stairs to tell Gu Kai, "Dad, I forgot to tell you earlier, Qianchen’s leg has fully recovered."
"So soon?"
Gu Kai looked at Gu Zinan in shock.
Gu Zinan’s handsome face showed a hint of admiration and seriousness, "I was surprised too. He’s the most strong-willed person I’ve ever seen, incredibly impressive."
...
Bai Qingling came out from her bath and saw the missed calls on her phone.
She hesitated for a few seconds, then placed the phone back on the side table, heading to the vanity to blow-dry her hair.
After drying her hair, she climbed into bed and picked up the phone again.
Chu Junming had only called her once, and she hadn’t answered.
He didn’t call again or send any messages.
She stared at the missed call, thinking of the events at Ye Zhan’s place earlier, and felt inexplicably annoyed.
She lifted her hair and called back Chu Junming’s number.
After two rings, the other side answered.
A familiar male voice, deep and gentle, came through, "Hello, Qingling."
"I was in the bath and didn’t know you called," Qingling said, grabbing a pillow to hug, then paused before asking, "Is there something you need?"
"Nothing much, just checking if Zinan got you home safely."
Chu Junming had also just come out of the shower.
He had tried to call her earlier, but after she didn’t pick up, he went to shower.
Now, wearing a hotel robe and lounging on the sofa with a loose belt around his waist, he exuded a lazy charm.
"I got home fine; with Zinan dropping me off, there’s nothing to worry about."
Bai Qingling laughed over the phone.
Chu Junming thought of the selfie Gu Zinan had posted of them, where she smiled sweetly.
Though now, separated by the phone, he couldn’t see her smile, hearing her laughter made the expression between his brows warm.
"I couldn’t take you home because of my mom’s situation tonight; you’re not upset, are you?"
"No, I’m not that petty."
"Good, that’s all I needed to hear. Rest early."
"You rest early too, good night."
From answering the call to hanging up, it was less than five minutes, including the awkward silences.
After hanging up the call, Bai Qingling zoned out for a while.
She remembered she hadn’t done her skincare, got out of bed to apply some essence, then climbed back under the covers to sleep.
...
The next morning.
Chu Junming went to knock on Mother Chu’s door, but she and Jiang Qian had already checked out and left.
Chu Junming had booked a morning flight back home, his schedule for the day packed. He called Mother Chu, who said she was going to spend two days in G City and told him not to worry.
Chu Junming then called his father and, on the way to the airport, sent a message to Ye Zhan and Tang Jinchen.
He informed them that his mother and Jiang Qian were still in G City and if they acted up, they shouldn’t hold back.
Ye Zhan received the message after breakfast, preparing to go to work.
After reading the message, he frowned and told Momo, "Momo, Junming’s mom and Jiang Qian haven’t returned to the Imperial City. If they contact you, ignore them."
"Yeah, I’m not familiar with them, won’t bother dealing with them."
Momo smiled, compared the two ties in her hand, set one aside on the sofa, and tied the other around him.
Ye Zhan stood before her, like a well-behaved child, very cooperative.
After tying the tie, he cupped her face and kissed her lips, "Call me if anything comes up."
"Go off to work now; I’ll visit the TV station later, call if anything arises."
"If I have time at lunch, I’ll pick you up from work. We can have lunch together," Ye Zhan contemplated whether he could take time off at noon.
Most of the time, things happen unexpectedly.
Not wanting to have Momo drive herself to the TV station, Ye Zhan called Ziyi and arranged for a driver to pick her up.
The driver was the bodyguard who had protected her before she married.
By the time she reached the TV station, it was already ten in the morning.
As Momo got out of the car and barely took a few steps, someone called her from behind, "Miss Mo."
She turned around and saw it was Mother Chu and Jiang Qian, both getting out of a taxi. She squinted slightly.
The taxi had been parked there for a while.
Clearly, they hadn’t just arrived and were here to block her?
Looking at Mother Chu and Jiang Qian approaching, Momo raised an eyebrow and asked indifferently, "Aunt Chu, is there something you need?"
"Big sister, I’m here to apologize."
The speaker wasn’t Mother Chu but Jiang Qian beside her.
After speaking, she gave Momo a deep bow, apologizing sincerely and remorsefully, "Big sister, I spoke without thinking last night, but I truly had no other intentions. Please forgive me this once."
