Chapter 1154: Little Life [Bonus]
[Big Thanks to Niceee9842 <3]
Alex began scrambling, rushing around the lab and randomly throwing things into what must have been an enormous spatial device. He moved like the wind, his stats making Jala’s eyes water. Just what sort of place was this “Earth” and how had it produced two such powerful F-Grades?
From what Jala could see, this Alex probably could have defeated Zoryx and Thalrik by himself as well. In fact, Israeal was probably on that list too, and he was an outer-galaxy genius of a powerful Clan. Just what was going on here?
Wait… why didn’t Alex appear on the Titans Leaderboard, then? How was he managing to avoid that scrutiny?
Jala stumbled out of the vat, viscous liquid pooling around him and falling in very slow waves from his body. He could hardly seem to stand upright, but that was only natural. His body right now was basically that of a newborn’s.
He had truly been revived.
Just what kind of power did this Race need to be capable of this?
“What’s… going on…”
Alex whizzed by him again, moving faster and faster as he whipped around. He seemed to have already thought of exactly what he would need to do when this happened.
“Bad things.”
Alex’s voice grew closer and then further away.
“That’s not an explanation.”
“It is.”
“Just tell me, fuck!” Jala was starting to grow frustrated with the state of his body and everything else from today, so he couldn’t help but snap.
“Bottle it up, naked boy. And put some damn clothes on before you start yelling like that. It’s hard to take you seriously like this.”
“Fuck you.”
Alex laughed. “It’s simple, you idiot. The Professors know of this contingency plan. Didn’t I tell you at the beginning that this was a Legacy Lab? That was because in the past, they managed to find it. It’s just that because of your great-grandfather, many of the details of this operation and what they managed to find and hold were obscured to them and hidden.”
“But didn’t you say the methods of this Race were practically impenetrable? Now you’re saying that not only did a nine-year-old crack them, but Legacy managed to find their most important holding?”
“No barrier is perfect in the world.”
“This isn’t just any barrier. This is their final line of defense. How am I supposed to take this seriously?”
Alex suddenly came to a stop, the wind following his quick movements blasting against Jala and sending the thick liquid covering his body flying.
He stood there for a moment, right in front of Jala, his expression suddenly cold.
“The real answer is that this contingency plan was never actually meant to be used. Do you get it? Your Hall Clan should have had such a huge and obvious advantage on Earth between everything they could gain that the gap would be opened up so wide the last of you wouldn’t die off like this.
“But your great-grandfather was a selfish asshole much like a bunch of the other old farts on Earth and couldn’t stand the idea of failing his own Summoning, so he wanted another chance on an easier difficulty despite all the advantages he had already been given.
“So he left.”
Jala’s heart shook.
This entire place was supposed to be a red herring. It was supposed to make The Professors think they had found the final contingency plan, when in reality they had stumbled onto a plan that should never have had to actually be used.
Hearing about his great-grandfather spoken of like this—the man treated as a hero to his entire world, a legend that everyone deified—it was hard for Jala not to feel as though his heart was trying to leap out of his throat.
He wanted to be angry, but given the slave contract, he couldn’t lash out at Alex even if he wanted to.
“Because of your Hall Clan, we started at an even greater disadvantage for the Ninth Summoning, and we weren’t meant to succeed at all. If not for a monster like Sylas luckily appearing at the last moment, we’d be groveling in front of those bastard Sylphs right this moment.

“I’m not exactly someone who cares about this sort of stuff, but when things are serious, I can’t have you acting like a spoiled child. I told you this matter is serious, but you’re trying to stop me and get answers to obvious questions.
“Focus. Your entire family has been wiped out because of a choice your own ancestor made. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, stop groveling, stop the self-pity party. If you want to be better, then prove it.
“This isn’t the place for you to get a therapy session. It’s either you’re going to be a man or you’re not. Make the choice yourself or else, in ten years when I let you go, you still won’t like what’s looking back at you in the mirror.
“NUT UP.”
All of Alex’s seriousness seemed to go out the window as he said the last words, but he had already zipped away by then, rushing out to finish clearing other things.
“We still have a chance!” Alex said from a distance. “Their calculations will be based on those on Hall Planet, but your great-grandfather had some balls in the end. He was probably the only one with the bloodline potency to be saved here, and he stopped that from happening.
“Your death didn’t happen on Planet Hall, so they won’t be able to trace us to this place so easily. Honestly, we’re only leaving out of an abundance of caution, but it’s necessary. This is the path we’re taking since neither of us are as monstrous as that Psycho Syl bastard.
“Can you believe he’s actually about to conquer a galaxy all on his own? Make that make sense. Who birthed him? I suddenly want to meet his mother.”
Alex stopped running and poked his head out from the back of a vat of liquid.
“Don’t tell Syl I said that. He’ll think I want to check out his mom’s legendary pussy or something, and then I’ll lose my little life. I don’t want that.”
Jala just stood there in a daze, the words Alex had spoken earlier still echoing in his skull on repeat.
