Genetic Ascension

Chapter 1682 Rulebook (1)

Chapter 1682 Rulebook (1)

Malikhi looked at Sylas calmly. The latter didn't seem to be stressed about anything at all.

Normally, someone who was arrogant and very much confident in their abilities would find most of these things to be an insult. Whether it was Fanelei ignoring him, being forced to join a competition with children, and now he wasn't even being given the credit for being a Perfect Spark Seed like he should.

Even Malikhi, with his own temper, would be furious about it all.

Granted, Malikhi had also touched upon the A-tier, so the situation was still a bit different. But the reality remained nonetheless.

If he had been interested in Sylas before, he was many times more interested now. Why would an eccentric like Fanelei choose a Legacy Disciple with such a temperament?

If Malikhi knew that Fanelei had prepared a mansion of resources that Sylas hadn't even touched yet, his assessment of Sylas might have been even higher than it was now.

While the two of them stood there, lost in their thoughts, the entourage that followed behind Malikhi and the receptionist waiting on them were all in an awkward sort of silence.

If Sylas had been alone, not a single one of them would have shown this level of patience. But with Malikhi's presence? Hardly anyone dared to breathe too heavily.

Given the fact the Analei reset their abilities every time they reincarnated, one could only wonder why a child like Malikhi was receiving so much respect right now... If it was just from his branch of the family, it might make sense. But why the receptionist as well?

After a while, Sylas arranged his thoughts. He honestly hadn't been thinking much about the challenge here; he was still thinking about those streaks of crimson lightning, the way his blood pumped and boiled, that excitement in his chest.

He felt a real fire inside of him for the first time in his life. A fire he wanted to protect.

He was excited in ways he couldn't describe, and that excitement could only be vented one way right now.

Was this what passion felt like?

Sylas took out a badge Analei had given him and placed it down on the receptionist's desk.

"Please register me."

The receptionist, a member of a familiar Race with long earlobes and a strong, wok-like belly, was taken aback.

That was certainly not a badge she expected to see from a human F-tier. It was a minted badge of the Analei, outlined with seven stars around it, representing the perfect reincarnation cycle of the Race. It was a badge only given to the purest blood members of the Analei. Why would Sylas have it for registration?

She hesitated and looked toward Malikhi, but the latter was wearing a lazy expression that made her shudder from head to toe.

Seeing this, she only took the briefest of pauses before she hurried to complete the registry.

[Name: Sylas Grimblade]

[Rune Rank: Perfect Spark Mastery (F-tier)]

[Merit: 0]

[Path: N/A]

[Accomplishments: N/A]

[Legacy: Fanelei Analei]

The lip of the receptionist trembled.

The Lubon Race was known for their attunement to their environment. Their long earlobes weren't just a fashion choice crafted by their heavy ear pieces, but instead a function of their Race's core abilities.

Whether it was information gathering or processing, they were at the top of the line, and because of that—unlike their Ancestor-they were also known for being quite calm and calculated, especially compared to the more war- like Races among them in the Rizen and the Riverdon.

This wasn't something that she could remain calm about, though.

She had never seen an introductory screen like this before. There had been Perfect Spark Masters that joined from the C-tier or above. But a newbie of the F-tier who entered as a Perfect Spark Master?

Her inclination was to believe that Sylas had a secret master, but when she got to the last line, she realized that it wasn't a secret at all.

The problem was that... even Fanelei's own daughter wouldn't have been allowed to choose a Path before she entered the guild formally. There were strict rules against such things.

But how could you become a Perfect Spark Master without a registered Path?

The Lubon's hand trembled as she handed the badge back.

"Is there a rulebook?" Sylas asked directly.

"Uh..." The Lubon didn't know what to say. There was a rulebook, but there was only one rulebook, and it wasn't casually handed out.

It rested at the center of the hall in a large glass encasement, and if you wanted to read it, it had to be done there.

Usually, anyone who came here would already know that. Still, it was a simple enough matter to explain, but she was so tongue-tied she couldn't do even that.

"The rulebook is there?" Malikhi pointed.

Sylas followed with his gaze toward where his finger led, realizing that the so-called rulebook was encased in gold-tinted glass, locked away in a tube that he had only just passed by.

The tube of glass extended to the ceiling that felt so impossibly high above and looked to form the core of this entire region.

People would glance at it from time to time with respect in their eyes.

"If there is a place you wanted to start, there is as good as any."

"As good as any?" Sylas repeated slowly.

"Normally one would think starting with the rules is the smartest thing to do in every situation. But not all rulebooks are created equal."

Sylas was the last person who needed to be told this. He had become a Perfect Spark Master in the first place because of a rulebook. The Sanctum's rulebook, to be specific.

In truth, most people weren't like him. Thinking about rules first instead of the resources waiting for him here took an odd mindset. But Sylas always liked to understand the battlefield before stepping onto it.

"This rulebook, even for the best, normally takes about eleven attempts to read all the way through."

"Is that so..." Sylas repeated steadily, his steps already carrying him over.
