Chapter 1770: Omnimous (4)
"Potential subordinate detected, Sir Sylas Grimblade. Would you like to subjugate him?"
The voice of the Omnimous wasn't quiet at all. In fact, Old Brama's lip couldn't help but twitch when he heard it.
"Ha, hear that, old man? If you had taught me instead of Psycho Syl here, you would've gotten better bang for your buck. Now you might be enslaved. How's it feel?"
"Do you ever shut up, brat?"
"This is how I stay sane around this guy," Alex said with a laugh.
Germaine was still on the floor nearby, trying to nurse her wounds and failing to do so.
"Go out. I have things to do," Sylas said coldly.
Old Brama sighed, shook his head, then turned to leave. He looked to the side, waved a hand, and grabbed Germaine as well.
By this point, they understood that if Sylas's bottom line was threatened, his patience was limited. And Old Brama had no intention of testing that bottom line-not right now.
He could feel that there was something weighing heavily on Sylas right now; otherwise, he would have never asked for that inheritance after being so uninterested in it for so long.
In that case... they should probably try and prepare as well.
Old Brama's eyes flickered. Was it related to that Heaven-Wide Announcement?
Last he heard, the Thryskai had pretty much all but secured that position. What had Sylas done to change things?
Sylas stood before a wide table formed of welded metal soon after. It was laid out before the obelisk and looked as simple as could be. But he could feel an energy radiating from it that was hard to parse.
"Sir Sylas Grimblade seems to be in a rush, so I will only give you the detailed rundown of the history of the Omnimous in the future. But there are still some things you should be aware of.
"The path of the Omnimous is known by many different names across many separate cultures, but often it falls under one of two monikers: Technology or Mechanisms. Often it is a combination of the two.
"The trouble with the path of technology is that it is to the universe what the Demon World is to the Real World."
Sylas's pupils constricted into pinholes.
"The universe always tends toward organic materials. Across an infinite number of worlds and an infinite amount of time, there has not ever been a Mech Race or anything of the sort. So, when you step onto the path of the Omnimous, you must understand that there is great resistance against it by the Real and Demon Worlds.
"While the Mech Path can be very efficiently used alongside either World, the only way to truly reach its greatest potential is by having it exist on its own, and that is where the true danger lies. Understanding this, would you still like to continue, Sir Sylas Grimblade?"
Sylas's eyes narrowed. "The system. The All-Seeing Eye. Or any previous systems before it. Are they examples of technology?"
"Yes. They are. But they are examples of technology that have veered onto the path of cohesion and unity. The Omnimous can be taken to that logical conclusion as well. But when the decision comes to be made, should you choose this safe path, you will lose access to the final inheritance of the Omnimous.
"This is a decision that has ruined many Omnimous Inheritors of the past, so it is necessary for me to inform you."
Sylas nodded. "I see."
It seemed that this wasn't a pressing matter to decide, and the Omnimous didn't mandate one decision or another. But Sylas couldn't help but wonder... what did it mean to take the full technological path? What did it mean to abandon the Real World as he knew it and forge a new path?
Was it similar to what happened to the Professors?
"Let's begin," Sylas said.
"Understood. The first principles to understand of the tech path are different from what you know. In the Real World, Runes are the fundamental unit of existence. The Omnimous acknowledges the existence of subatomic particles and units of energy instead—"
"Speak faster. Or distill it into Will. Keep increasing the pace until I say I can't handle it anymore."
"Understood, Sir Sylas Grimblade."
The Omnimous obliged, and its pace of speech was practically chicken scratch before Sylas told it to stop. He stared out into blank space, listening to the words of the Omnimous as it laid the foundation for everything.
But Sylas wasn't nearly as lost as someone of the Real World would be. That was because the people of Earth had been suppressed and re-suppressed so many times that they had begun to progress in the only way they could... This very Mech Path.
Technology had been the way of Earth for many millennia already. Much of the foundational information the Omnimous was explaining, Sylas already knew. But at the same time, it was filling in details in such a simple way that someone else might have thought they had just forgotten... But Sylas knew the truth.
These simple truths the Omnimous was sprinkling in would have taken centuries more of effort for Earth to eke apart the secrets of—and the Omnimous was just beginning.
Sylas didn't tire or take a break. He didn't just file everything away, but he cross-referenced them and then re- cross-referenced them as he gained new information.
At the same time, he was doing something that even the Omnimous itself wouldn't consider.
He was translating it to Runes.
What had the Omnimous said? These two paths were fundamentally incompatible.
So why was it that Sylas was able to use his Runic thoughts to solve the tests they created for this Omnimous easier than ever before?
And as Sylas pieced together this foundational knowledge with his Runes, he realized that everything in the world was well and truly connected in ways that maybe even the strongest could never fully explain.
That was because if you ever reached such a day where you could...
You just might be able to create an entirely new universe.
