Chapter 1779: Genius
Chapter 1779: Genius
Sylas' body was rapidly approaching a state of shutting down as the chill in his eyes grew deeper. He didn't spare a single thought toward the odds that he would fall like this.
He didn't.
There were too many people relying on him, and somehow, even more important than that, there was an unwillingness in him.
How embarrassing would it be to die because of such a foolish, idiotic mistake?
Withstanding the pain ripping through him, Sylas slammed his palms together, a radiant Will blooming forth. He wasn't paying attention to Reaper Sealwright at all. In fact, he wasn't even looking toward his multi-brain quantum computer either.
His focus was on something entirely different.
The whistle.
A-Grade Medley's whistle had shattered to pieces, rended to nothingness... or so it seemed.
But to the Mesh of Reality, that wasn't exactly true, now was it?
When Sylas used Archon Casting, he was able to use time to imprint Runes continuously, lagging them through time in order to allow one to be stamped continuously with minimal effort.
The concept of this relied on the fact that when Runes acted, they left a lasting impression on the Mesh of Reality. Because of theories like relativity and things of the like, a Rune acting in one time frame might not exactly be acting identically from a separate vantage point, much the same way time was experienced differently depending on the frame of reference.
Normally, these concepts only became important when you were on the order of the speed of light or approaching it. But Runes were a lot like the quantum world in how they functioned and acted. They were the fundamental laws of the universe and weren't governed by things like mass and reason in most cases.
In that case, it took an especially skilled Rune Master to take advantage of them.
And Sylas was exactly that skilled.
The only trouble was that this was an A-Grade Treasure, and as one might expect, it utilized A-Grade Runes. This wasn't something that Sylas could even remotely begin to control.
But he could more than control F- and E-Grade Runes, and more importantly than that, he could guide D-Grade Runes if he had to.
Another flash came from Sylas' eyes and a reconstruction of A-Grade Medley appeared in the Mesh of Reality.
Everything seemed to vanish around him and he entered a land formed of a silver net as far as the eye could see.
It bent in different ways and forms, larger dents forming the bodies of stars and planets and moons. There was a small curve around where Sylas stood, in one part due to his flying vessel... But in second part due to himself.
Wherever he stood, the Mesh of Reality had no choice but to acknowledge his existence and the weight of his Will.
Sylas coughed up another mouthful of blood.
His focus not once wavered. He tried to keep the C-Grade and above Runes from slipping away, but the moment he felt a pulsing in his eyes, he refrained.
His eyes had only just recovered from shattering apart. He needed his Runeweaver Eyes more than ever right now. He couldn't afford to shatter them again, not when he was already dancing on the edge of his rope.
Pulling on his Progenitor status, Sylas forcefully stabilized the F-, E-, and D-tier Runes.
Sylas knew why Call of the Titan had shattered A-Grade Medley. Both of them were trying to control the same space. The only difference was that Call of the Titan was trying to use the world around Sylas as a conduit to flood him with information. By comparison, A-Grade Medley was trying to use that same world as a strengthener for Sylas.
There was no reason why they couldn't work alongside one another, it just needed to be guided properly.
In fact, if Sylas guided A-Grade Medley well enough, he could even...
'Slow it down. Refine it. Enhance its clarity. Increase efficiency.'
All of a sudden, the speed of the information slowed to a crawl and the bursts of blood coming from Sylas were reined in.
'Genius,' the Omnimous thought to itself.
It wasn't exactly a fan of Rune Mastery, but it knew a good Rune Master when it saw one. Often people thought that being excellent in one field meant you couldn't be excellent in another, foolishly parsing math geniuses away from writers.
However, in the real world, people who tended to be intelligent in one subject often performed well in others as well. The exceptions to this were savants, people who tipped the scales so far in one direction they didn't seem to have room for another.
These people, though... were very rare and often came with many other weaknesses of the mind.
But then there were absolute geniuses.
'He used some form of time affinity Rune Mastery to retrieve the imprint of this Medley Treasure. He dismissed the above-D-tier aspects and focused on what he could control. Then, taking advantage of the fact the world around him was the bridge this Call of the Titan needs, he slowed down the processing, also making it more efficient. And if I'm correct...'
Yes. The moment the Omnimous had the thought, Sylas communicated with the first of the secondary brains.
Almost anyone else in this situation would be scrambling to find a way to find a solution before Call of the Titan started sending information that was too much for their brain to handle, but Sylas did the opposite.
Rather than finding a solution for the future, he capitalized on his strengths first. By using the F-, E-, and D-Grade Runes of A-Grade Medley, he gained control of all those aspects in the surroundings. As a result, he could control the flow of Call of the Titan's information and even manipulate it.
There were just two questions.
Why was it that these Runes weren't shattering the same way the whistle had? What was the difference between the whistle and what Sylas was doing?
And second... now that Sylas could control Call of the Titan from F- to D-Grade... what would he do about C-Grade and above? There was still no answer for this.
