Chapter 2035: King [Bonus]
Chapter 2035: King [Bonus]
[Bonus thanks to Rikstingray <3]
Sylas didn't have the time to care about this other stuff. He had spent quite a bit of time with the Omnimous, enough to know that it was interesting, but it wasn't the sort of thing he wanted to pursue.
The problem wasn't that the Omnimous wasn't powerful. It was instead that the dedication he would need to put into growing himself in a field that ultimately came down to resources and preparation... it wasn't good enough.
In fact, it would only leave more room for mistakes.
The more he had to prepare in advance, the more of a chance enemies he didn't understand could get a leg up on him and the more he would struggle.
By comparison, if he instead focused on his Dao, and using the more adaptable strength of his body, he would be able to better shift with the tides and react to unexpected outcomes.
In truth, these were only small reasons. He didn't actually care all that much about these things at all.
He just liked his current path more. That was all it came down to.
Sure, if he followed the Omnimous to the end, he could probably build things that would leave even the God Realm itself in shambles. But the satisfaction wasn't the same for him.
The Omnimous didn't respond for a moment. It dragged on for so long that it almost felt like it might make the decision to rescind its offer.
However, Sylas was unsurprised by the true outcome.
"I will obey," it said.
The Omnimous was an intelligence that was hard to fathom. It didn't make decisions lightly, and it wouldn't emotionally change that decision just because of a little matter.
In truth, this wasn't exactly what one would call a "small matter." Its duty was to survive first and foremost, and only in rare circumstances would it deviate from this. For it to waste energy on someone it hadn't chosen felt like absolute blasphemy to its original programming.
It hadn't even been willing to do this with the previous Sylas, let alone for the current Alex.
But after it had made its decision, it ultimately felt that the best chance for it to reach its former glory was by following Sylas.
Which also meant that anything Sylas said was something that it must abide by, even if it didn't ultimately like the decision.
If it could have made these perfect decisions on its own, then it wouldn't have ever been in a situation where it needed to conserve energy in the first place.
The Omnimous lacked the flexibility of the living, and because of that it had been forced to hop from owner to owner, hoping for the best.
Now that it had finally found Sylas... now wasn't the time to consider other things.
Sylas plucked the Omnimous out of the skies and tossed it to Alex as though it were a normal ball.
Alex couldn't help but look up in surprise after he caught it. It wasn't lost on him just how much power Sylas was handing over to him. This was something that Legacy had been searching for, for who knew how long.
"Sylas, are you sure you?"
Sylas didn't reply, looking back into the skies. What he didn't expect was for Alex to suddenly jump on him, hugging him like he had become some sort of koala bear.
Alex grinned ear to ear and planted a kiss right on Sylas' cheek.
"Forget everything I said before. If you want to take me, I'll prepare my―."
Sylas gave Alex a glance, and the latter stopped talking before leisurely climbing down.
Alex cleared his throat. "Right, right. Time and place. Time and place. My door is always open for you, though."
Sylas inwardly shook his head. He had never met someone as eccentric as Alex. While he had come across several so-called class clowns in his life, usually it just took a glance before they left him alone.
Alex, though, didn't seem to actually fear him at all. It was like the man knew exactly how to walk the line and didn't care to dance all the way around it.
"Legacy has been looking for that, I assume?" Sylas said.
Alex nodded.
"Is it related to their Professors?"
"Yes. Professors are mostly split into two branches if you ignore actual hierarchy. There are the bio specialists, and then there are the tech specialists. There are a rare few that try to do both, but for obvious reasons it takes a lifetime to do either right. The thing is, though, that the tech specialists tend to be a lot stronger. But they're also a lot rarer as well. Finding tech inheritances and things of the like is quite difficult."
"I think so. There were probably several things they wanted out of Earth, but tech was almost certainly one of them. It's very, very rare for a world to grow through tech. What's even rarer about Earth is that we didn't start that way at all. We took the Aether Path like most other worlds. But after the Sixth Summoning, everything changed, and we started the Tech Path. That made us especially unique and gave us a ton of trouble.
"The Professor that attacked me this time was a tech specialist. If that son of a bitch knew I had this thing, he would be rolling in his grave."
Sylas raised an eyebrow. "He's dead?"
"No. But he will be soon. I'll make sure of it."
There was a slight flicker in Sylas' eyes. He had seen Alex become serious before, but that was only when his face was behind his mask of darkness.
This was very different, though. The man was practically salivating with killing intent, and it was all written right across his face.
But as quickly as it was there, it collapsed just as quickly, replaced by a childish grin and a giddy hop and skip.
"So, Sylas, my drip king. Do you want tech in your clothes now too?"
