Chapter 2051: A Grimblade
Chapter 2051: A Grimblade
Sylas walked forward. He phased through the mountain as though it wasn't there at all, the illusion incapable of holding him.
Without missing a step, he found someone he had spotted from the very beginning but hadn't done much about because he didn't really care.
Now, however, it was quite important he deal with this.
If he left this illusory black mountain here, it would remain as a beacon, continuously pinging signals of Earth's location back to the First Race-wherever they were.
While getting rid of the signal wouldn't make it impossible for them to find Earth, it would certainly be a lot harder, and they wouldn't be able to directly teleport back to Earth.
The issue was that these decoys had become firmly rooted here and the illusory black mountain was supposed to be too solid to go through.
Sylas had already comprehended the secret of this ore, though. If he understood the main ore, breaking down the projection of it was as easy as breathing.
So long as he utilized his Fathomless Rune Creation properly, nothing here could stop him.
It was such a big problem, but Sylas hardly had to think to fix it because he had two solutions waiting for him here.
One of them was Professor Fembroise. But he had chosen not to use her because he had an even easier method.
Sylas stopped in front of a familiar man. He stood in a daze like the others, his mind vacant and his eyes staring ahead as though he didn't know Sylas was in front of him at all.
Nathan Grimblade.
Sylas hadn't thought much about Nathan, honestly. This was a rare moment that he actually felt somewhat bad about it.
This wasn't because of Nathan himself, but instead because of Archibald.
Archibald was an Ancestor worthy of respect. Unlike the others who were unduly selfish, he had instead sacrificed everything for his family, and his inheritance was passed down to Nathan.
What was interesting about Archibald was that he seemed to be following a path very similar to the Omnimous. The difference was, of course, that he didn't have the Omnimous to follow. He was on his own, and so was Nathan.
Still, Sylas had given the Omnimous to Alex, not Nathan. Namely because he had grown to trust Alex, and he wouldn't trust Nathan simply because he shared his bloodline.
Plus, Nathan had already gained a great deal from him, as had every Grimblade. He was amongst the only group of people on Earth that was a member of an A-Grade Race.
If he had been handed that and couldn't do something with it, then it was a problem that was his fault alone.
Following the path of someone else was easier, but it wouldn't allow you to reach your fullest potential. If Nathan was a Grimblade, then he should carry himself as such and create a Legacy even better than the Omnimous.
Sylas reached a hand forward and pressed it to his palm.
A radiant crimson aura exuded from Nathan and his vacant eyes slowly regained focus.
The black mountain above fluctuated wildly and a might descended from above. Unfortunately for them, this puzzle was even easier than the one he had solved as a child.
This was the real method that Sylas had used to escape Heaven and Fathomless before. The two had a exceptionally mighty understanding of Earth, so simply using his Progenitor Abilities just wasn't enough.
However, the beacon to Earth and this coalescing of Will was being formed by evoking the First Race Genes hidden deep within these decoys. This formed a complex array of buried Wills that functioned quite similar to an artificial set of Infinite Wills as a result.
This resonance formed a connection with the black mountain hidden deep within Earth, and thus borrowed its power to strengthen the signal even further.
Honestly, while Sylas could understand the gist of it, this sort of complex application of Will went beyond the usual forms of Rune Mastery Sylas saw.
It was practically a form of Rune Creation that was just on the cusp of forming real life. Though it fell shy of actually creating Will, it manipulated Will and quasi-shaped it in ways that were beyond Sylas' current abilities.
Unfortunately for them, understanding the gist of it was all Sylas needed right now.
He had not just one method of disrupting that chain of Wills, but two of them.
The weakness was obvious. He just needed something capable of interrupting the Will.
The first option was to use Professor Fembroise. She had absorbed Gogo's Will, and there were few people who understood the Will of a Basilisk King better than Sylas did. Evoking it within her at that Will Construct Layer of her body was as simple as intending for it to happen.
But why choose this option when he had Nathan?
The First Race had the right to be arrogant. They had accomplished so very much, and even now their story was not yet completely written.
It turned out that they had never left. Maybe they had written a completely different legend in another part of the universe where they lorded as a group that was feared and respected already.
Now they wanted to return home, to claim revenge on those that had wronged them and take back what was theirs.
It was a story as valiant as it was touching.
But to Sylas, this was no longer their story to tell.
They had failed. He had succeeded.
They wanted a second chance. He wasn't willing to give up his first.
If they wanted Earth back, they could have it, if they understood hierarchy, if they knew who stood as Emperor and who could only remain as subjects.
But if they didn't understand that, then he could only show them.
This was no longer the story of the First Race.
This was the story of the Grimblades.
And whatever it was he as their Ancestor wanted, he would reap.
"Who are you?" Sylas asked Nathan.
Nathan's eyes glowed, a hidden Pride flashing as he remembered the old man Archibald.
"I am Nathan Grimblade."
"And what does a Grimblade do?"
Nathan had never heard the words before, and yet he knew them like he knew his very own heart.
"We reap."
The black mountain shattered.
