Chapter 2080: Taste
Chapter 2080: Taste
A silence hung in the air. Juxi and Deuvuo still weren't sure of what to do.
If Alpine voted for Sylas, should they vote for Sylas as well? But someone as powerful as the Glutton was unlikely to be stupid. Why did he want Sylas out so badly?
Did it matter what reasons the Glutton had? Shouldn't they just be worried about themselves? There was no doubt that from their own perspective, it made the most sense to let Sylas just continue all the way to the very end.
But what if Alpine voted for the Glutton? Should that change their perspective? This might extremely well happen. After all, the Glutton seemed to be targeting Alpine for no reason.
What if he spun it around and voted for one of the two of them instead? What should they do then? What then?
"You." Alpine said coldly, pointing toward the Glutton.
Suddenly, there was a three way. This, though, left Juxi and Deuvuo even more baffled. They had just been handed a great deal of power and part of them couldn't help but wonder why these three would do this. Were they missing something?
If they voted together, they would decide who fought.
If they split their vote, they could actually force two of the three to fight for the right to participate.
Alpine didn't care. As far as he saw it, by doing this, he would have a range of options.
If they split the vote between himself and the Glutton, he would kill the latter for the betrayal. If they split it between himself and Sylas, he might even directly give up so he wouldn't have to fight Sylas, or he could just fight to kill Sylas right here and now.
And if the two of them voted together, the odds they would pick him were low.
While he was their enemy, the Glutton had proved himself to be a wild card who didn't follow along with normal logic. That was a detriment to the Glutton's position in the eyes of those here.
So, even if Deuvuo and Juxi didn't pick Sylas-which was the most logical choice at this point-Alpine himself was still the third on the totem pole so long as they had half a brain cell.
This was Alpine's way of regaining as much power as he could by ironically giving up some.
It was only now that Juxi and Deuvuo realized the difference between them and true geniuses.
Sylas hadn't flinched once. The Glutton didn't even know what Sylas' plans were, but he had the balls to interrupt them. And Alpine didn't hesitate to give up a bit of his own strength to regain some leverage down the line.
By comparison, though Juxi was proud of herself for killing the 22nd, she could almost feel Alpine's disdain.
The difference between 17th and 22nd shouldn't have been that large, but not a single time had the Royal Blue Troll looked at her with anything close to fear or even wariness.
He didn't take her seriously at all.
None of them did.
Deuvuo chuckled, echoing a laugh that almost perfectly reflected the self-deprecation in Juxi's hidden thoughts.
The three of them were seemingly giving them all the power, but in reality, Deuvuo and Juxi didn't feel like they had much of a chance at all.
The only thing they could do was the choice most logical to them.
If these three monsters stayed here, they would have no chance of surviving. They needed to take one out. The two most unlikely to be pragmatic and docile.
They looked toward one another, seemingly communicating with their eyes alone. And then they made a decision.
"You."
"You."
They both voted at the same time, but they didn't point toward the same person at all.
Juxi had a finger levied right at Sylas.
This choice had to be made no matter what. If Sylas won, they got two things out of it. Not only would the other be either heavily injured or dead, but Sylas would also be able to continue on which was also beneficial for them.
If Sylas was the one to lose, then it was fine as well, because he would also be either heavily injured or dead.
A Sylas victory was like two birds with one stone, so no matter what, he had to be one of the two they selected.
It was the other that they weren't sure of. Alpine or the Glutton. The Glutton or Alpine... Deuvuo's finger ultimately landed... on the Glutton.
Alpine sneered. It was the most obvious outcome, he had already seen it through.
It wasn't just the fact that the Glutton was the wildest variable, but also that they knew absolutely nothing about him.
A battle with Sylas, even if the Glutton won, would force him to reveal his secrets.
And if Sylas won, well... those benefits were already well laid out.
They watched Sylas' expression to see if there would be the slightest change. Innately, their fear of him was the highest of all the others. But, the very same thing as always happened... Sylas walked forward as though this was already the most obvious outcome. In fact, he never looked at Alpine from start to finish.
From the start, he had known things would end like this.
It was the most obvious outcome.
And now, he could kill two birds with a single stone.
Sylas appeared across from the Glutton. The last time he did, Sylas could only use tricks to barely survive.
This time would be different.
He wouldn't be giving the Glutton the chance to escape again.
"Sylas Grimblade."
A voice worn by age and grinding like saws and teeth echoed, peeling back layers of the world as though to expose its naked underbelly.
A savage air rose out from him.
He had gone through so much because of Sylas. Every moment had been life and death, even more so than usual.
And now, he would have his revenge, Dungeon be damned.
Sylas' flesh. He wanted to taste it.
BANG.
