Chapter 2262: Genesis Covenant
Chapter 2262: Genesis Covenant
The atmosphere around the Genesis Covenant was filled with a boisterous sort of flare and happiness. While the new recruits were wringing their hands and sweating bullets, that wasn't the same for everyone else.
In fact, it could be said that this was a time for celebration.
Sylas had been worried about exactly how he would blend in when he arrived, only to come to find out that this wasn't much of a problem at all.
Young men and women intermingled endlessly, none of them wearing their disciple uniforms or badges. And why would they? When the dividing line was gender, you knew who was where instantly with very few exceptions.
The only oddity was that everything he had read about these two guilds said that they were enemies. The Genesis Covenant was the only neutral territory between them that they had. And while fighting was technically not allowed here for that reason… it also shouldn't be like what Sylas was seeing here.
It felt like he had stepped right into Sodom and Gomorrah, though a little less gay. Just a little bit, because even a casual sweep of the surroundings wouldn't spare you from catching a few pair of men kissing.
In fact, Sylas caught the sight of a pair of lesbians in a hotel window nearby. One of them had their back pressed against the glass, one leg planted to the ground and the other raised up high, while their partner rammed into her crotch to crotch either in the most violent scene of scissoring Sylas had ever seen, or she thought if she did it hard enough her clit would grow out into a dick.
They didn't even draw the curtains, and the windows were floor to ceiling, so there simply wasn't any concealing anything.
And yet, they were the most conservative of the people on the streets.
Sylas walked by a carriage that was rocking back and forth so violently the ground was shaking like an earthquake. Then there was a couple literally underneath the carriage using the vibrations to help them… pump.
Men walked around with their dicks hanging out of their zippers, and women wore "bras" that were basically just the outlined wires without any coverage at all.
The only reason Sylas managed to blend in at all through the chaos was because at least some people were still dressed conservatively. And by conservatively… he meant normal.
But even then, that didn't stop passersby—men and women alike—from glancing at him as though they might grab him to fuck in a nearby alley any moment now.
That said, what was so very interesting was that not one person actually approached him to go through with it.
It was almost like they had an innate sense for hierarchy. They knew who they could approach and who they couldn't.
Sylas wasn't the only one left alone. Many of the more conservatively dressed individuals were likewise left alone.
While that didn't spare them from the leering looks and hopeful eyes, ultimately they made it to their destinations without hassle… Or so it seemed.
As far as Sylas was aware, his parents should appear near here soon. However, snagging them away and vanishing was going to be difficult.
There was one thing working for him, though. This was a neutral site, or it should have been.
The main problem was that the moment Sylas touched down, the situation he had been expecting—akin to a moon or an outpost of some kind—wasn't here.
This place… it was a real world, a world both guilds shared. That was out of Sylas' expectations.
Even worse, even if things hadn't been like this, it would have been impossible to just up and leave with his parents too.
The new recruits would arrive with the powerhouses of the Sect, and that would also mean that Sylas would have a higher bar to clear.
Sylas didn't even consider the possibility of just telling them to release his parents. Clans and Sects like these were acting so forcefully because they both could and because they needed to.
No one would give up on their own benefits just because you asked nicely.
And no one was going to use his parents' lives like they were some resource to extract.
But for now, there was little that Sylas could do other than be patient and wait. And as he did so, he would be observing all that he could.
Sylas' footsteps came to a pause and he looked up at the largest short-term rental space there was on the world. It was a one-shop-fits-all, and the amount of raunchy sex in the region was at an all-time low.
He could still see some people fondling one another from time to time, but it was limited to hands roaming around chests. In the worst case, a man had his hand in a woman's robes, but compared to what was going on outside, this was borderline conservative.
There were no guards at the door, but Sylas could feel that he was being watched.
Sylas stopped, crossing his arms and closing his eyes. He took deep, slow breaths, his mind swimming through a sea of thoughts that felt endless and impossibly numerous.
'This… will be a problem…'
Sylas could already see the ending of this. He knew how every beat from here on out would proceed, and he didn't have an answer for it.
There was only going to be one way through this.
He was going to have to be better than whatever came.
Sylas extended a hand and the old man's calligraphy brush appeared in his palms, then another reached out. Swirling Runes took shape and the Grim Blade manifested from what almost felt like the realms of creation itself.
However, he didn't attack. He fastened each onto his back, his pressed dress pants and rolled up white dress shirt somehow hardly clashing with his look at all.
Then, he opened his eyes and took a step forward.
The Lust Seed within him shook.
