Chapter 2268: How Far?

Chapter 2268: How Far?

Sylas almost instantly calmed down.

There were still a lot of questions. If so many intelligent people thought the Sin Seeds were the way forward, why did the Heaven System hate Madness so much? Why hadn't it tried to incorporate the Seeds or aspects of them long ago?

He still didn't even quite know what led to the collapse of the Madness System in the first place. The fact there were existences like Slithering Madness still alive and active, and Madness wasn't at the forefront was another oddity.

But what this did probably mean was that Gentrixaul was aware of his existence. He just couldn't reach down to the Mortal Plane.

Now that he was in the Demi-God Plane, though…

Cheri had just said he managed to affect it to some extent. It seemed that there was going to be another enemy on his list.

He hadn't taken much from Gentrixaul. In fact, all he had done was learn from his Runes. But it seemed that the God Beast didn't like that either.

Or maybe it had to do with the fact he had slaughtered a few Serpentes God Beasts already.

Who knew what it was?

Either way, it didn't matter to him right now. Now that he understood the full scope of what he was stepping into, his main priority was his parents.

"What are the odds the others will figure out what you have?" Sylas asked calmly.

Cheri blinked. "… Unlikely."

There was a hint of pride in her eyes and she seemed on the verge of returning to her confident self.

"What level of designation did Legacy give you?"

"Bronze." Cheri replied. "After a little manipulation."

"Is that so? And what designation do you believe you're worth?"

"Gold." Cheri said without hesitation.

"Do you believe that Legacy is that easy to fool?"

"Men will be men." She replied. "If you show them a bit of skin, they all forget how to focus."

Sylas stared at her indifferently, and Cheri felt a bit embarrassed and then sighed.

"There are two methods of designation. The first is the child soldier designation where Legacy will send someone to silently observe someone who is in their sprouting phase.

"These designations are usually extremely accurate.

"But the methods of designation for adults, especially those that come of their own volition, is very different. Part of the test is actually finding a Legacy Branch yourself, and depending on the level of branch you find, you are thus assigned your ranking.

"With this second sort of designation, it's pretty easy to fake your level. Usually people seeking out Legacy through this method aren't looking to undersell themselves on purpose."

Sylas nodded. He was only aware of the first sort of designation because it was the one he had received. But now that he thought about it, he didn't actually receive a ranking.

His evaluator just told Legacy to steer clear of him and they chose a woman he had long since killed as the number one of Earth instead.

All things considered, that was probably a smart choice. A Sylas with the information of Legacy at his fingertips before the Tutorial began would have been an untameable beast.

At least with the path they chose, they had a small chance at making things difficult for him.

"So when I say that I am Gold, it's because I found a Gold Branch and actively chose to go for a lower designation. If I was willing to spend a few more decades, I could have found a Legendary one. But that would defeat the purpose."

Sylas believed her. He was just skeptical about how much she had managed to hide from Legacy about her true intentions.

But if she was telling the truth about how things worked, it was very possible that she had flown under the radar.

"How are you informed of the rules?"

"You have to unearth everything yourself, but most information networks will be able to sell you pretty decent starting points as almost all of them have some tie to Legacy."

"Alright." Sylas said. "Then tell me. What is the best way for me to save the Grimblades."

Cheri hesitated.

Well… she hadn't really thought that far.

Honestly, she thought that when she came here it would be a bit of a song and dance. Maybe Sylas would deny, she would have a few clever retorts, and then they'd have a back and forth that lasted over the next few days.

During that time, she planned to use him.

She wanted to learn more about the Grimblades. Information was power, and if they really were as strong as it seemed, who knew if an extra tie or two might be helpful?

But she hadn't really come here with a perfect plan.

"… It's impossible for me to help you enter. The overseers of the trials have already been selected. I am not one of them, my standing is too high, honestly. And if I try to join now, it will be incredibly suspicious.

"The trial is also heavily monitored. There will be powerful A-tier present. I'm not sure what your level of power is, but if you can defeat all of them, I guess the most straightforward method is just to do that during the opening ceremony."

Sylas shook his head no.

He was powerful now. A lot more powerful than before. But even a B-tier would be too much without laying his life on the line.

Cheri frowned and she seemed to be racking her brain, trying to think of something.

It was just impossible. Every method she thought of would either mean putting her own life on the line for no results, or getting Sylas to. But Sylas wasn't a member of either one of their guilds, and all of those methods would require him to join and be of high standing. It was just impossible.

After a long while, Cheri looked up at Sylas.

"How far are you willing to go to save them?" she asked slowly.
