A flicker appeared above the Woodland Spider Queen's head. Its stats didn't change, that Sylas was certain of. However, it was the same oppressive might he had felt from the Arctic Emperor Bear.
The Effectiveness of the spider queen's stats hit a new threshold, one that was hard to put into just a few words. Even without its numbers increasing, the oppression it wrought was deadly... and maybe even more important than that, it seemed to gain a repertoire of new skills.
The root system beneath Sylas' feet exploded, and he looked down to find an endless abyss beneath his feet.
His gaze flickered as his weight was swept out from under him.
He realized that the system had screwed him over more than he knew.
He was stuck in this region, unable to leave. But now he had just realized that this wasn't just a nest... the entire web was the spider queen's attack weapon.
Suddenly, the roots around him shot at him from all sides, their barbs scratching against his skin and trying to tear him apart even when he dodged.
The roots swallowed him up, and Sylas could barely hear the hisses of his hoard of snakes before that sound was cut off from him as well.
The panic threatened to take hold of his heart before he forcefully pressed it down.
He noticed several things.
First, the roots were numerous, but their power output was relatively weak. Even with his weakened Constitution, they couldn't pierce through him easily. The barbs were only scratching at his skin and leaving shallow cuts; their real danger was the poison they held. But Sylas was relatively unaffected by it.
If the spider queen could control such a large region and bring real power along with it, she would simply be undefeatable.
The second thing he noticed was that he had quickly stopped falling. He had rebounded against a barrier, and if he had to guess, this barrier was what was trapping him within the Field Dungeon.
The spider queen had probably wanted him to fall to his death, as the underground was far deeper than he ever expected. But what neither of them could have guessed was that Sylas would be saved from such a death by something that was originally a punishment.
The Woodland Spider Queen was an intelligent beast. It should know that Sylas was capable of flight. But it would also be aware that this flight would only last a short time and took a lot out of him.
It had wanted to capitalize on this by beating and battering him until he just outright died. That was because this beast had already begun to fear Sylas.
It wanted to get rid of him as quickly as possible, eradicate his serpents, and then deal with the poison that was drilling its way through its body.
However, it had failed to do so.
And the third thing Sylas realized was that the queen couldn't sense him clearly any longer.
Before, the spider queen was one with its web, so anyone that stepped onto it, it sensed. But now, it had not only broken free, but it had done so forcefully, effectively destroying a large segment of the web.
That meant that if Sylas found a way back, he would have the advantage of a sneak attack.
Sylas regained his calm and analyzed all of this in a brief instant.
He stood on the barrier, and darkness was all around him. It was impossible to tell how far below things went, but what he could tell was how far he had to go to return upward.
He could still see some faint rays of light peeking through the woven tapestry of tree roots. 'This darkness... it's to my advantage...'
Heaving deep breaths, Sylas' gaze flickered in the darkness before he formulated a plan. Then, he pulled Nosphaleen out.
Until now, he had been hiding her. That was because he knew that the Woodland Spider Queen wasn't the only danger he had to face. Having another hidden trump card that could jump out and surprise his enemies was for the best.
But now, another opportunity had presented itself.
He could barely see his own hand in this place. The odds that they could still keep tabs on him were low.
He pressed a palm to Nosphaleen's chest and ripped the cancer out of her even faster than he had before. The impact of a Lv12 Taboo Bond Path was showing itself. It wasn't even a half second before Nosphaleen's eyes were fluttering, and this time, there was no need to even attempt to heal her.
"Can you make it through?" Sylas asked.
Nosphaleen had barely recovered when Sylas asked her if she could make it through to the other side. She knew better than to ask Sylas questions by now, so she just tried and then
shook her head.
'Interesting... so if someone enters, they'll be stuck with me. No wonder they haven't tried to impact the battle. But that's fine as well.'
"We have an enemy above. It's already severely injured. You hold it with your charm Skills, and I will deal the final blow. Do not show yourself if unnecessary."
Sylas pulled on his Gluttony Seed as Nosphaleen activated <Glide>.
They both shot into the air at the same time, weaving through the roots.
Nosphaleen stopped just underneath the spider queen, enough to see its eyes through the gaps in the roots.
Sylas rounded to its back, his gaze sharp as he patiently waited.
The instant Nosphaleen's blue eyes flashed, he ripped through the roots, appearing behind the spider queen as it went on a rampage, its sharp legs spearing through one serpent after
another.
It didn't even notice Sylas at first, and by the time it felt like something was off, Nosphaleen's Skill had collided with it.
Sylas appeared high above it, falling toward its gaping eye wound with menace.
<Arctic King's Domain>.
