When the group heard what Ling Xi said, they couldn’t help but feel like she was some kind of secret tycoon—though she herself seemed blissfully unaware of it. It was as if she could casually pull out several artifacts on a whim. But how did Ling Xi end up with so many?

“Ling Xi, why do you have so many artifacts?” Zhang Nu asked, baffled. “Do you really not know? Are they really from your parents? You don’t even know that much?”

Hearing Zhang Nu’s question, Ling Xi shook her head earnestly. She really didn’t know. She had used them since she was young, and from time to time, even the YaoGuais would bring her gifts. As far as she was concerned, they’d just always been there.

“I truly don’t know where they came from,” she replied. “If you don’t believe me, then don’t use them. Figure it out on your own, I can’t help you there.”

Zhang Nu immediately realized she might be upset. Had he pushed too far? Ling Xi couldn’t be angry—he absolutely couldn’t let that happen.

“Ling Xi, don’t be mad,” he quickly said. “We were just trying to be sure. If it’s really okay, we’d love to borrow some of the artifacts—but you should be mentally prepared. We might not be able to return them.”

Ling Xi nodded. Of course, she had thought of that already.

“I know,” she said calmly. “That’s why the ones I’m giving you are all life-saving tools or artifacts I don’t particularly like. You’re asking for defensive items, right? Those aren’t that useful to me anyway.”

As long as she understood the situation, Zhang Nu felt reassured.

“All right. In that case, please hand over the ones we can use.”

Without another word, Ling Xi reached into her bag and dumped out a dazzling pile of artifacts. “These are all mine. If you like any, pick one!”

The group’s jaws nearly hit the floor. Ling Xi had that many artifacts? And not a single duplicate?

How was she this powerful? Were her parents some sort of rich immortal cultivators?

“No way, Ling Xi—you really had this many?” Liu Hai gasped. “Could you maybe give us a couple too? We don’t have a single life-saving artifact on us.”

He even tried his best to look pitiful as he pleaded.

Ling Xi nodded. If they really needed them, she wouldn’t mind.

“If you need them, take them. We’re a team now, aren’t we? If you want something, I’ll give it to you.”

Hearing such generosity, Liu Hai was almost moved to tears. To him, she might as well be a living goddess descended from heaven.

“You’re way too generous! If you’re serious about giving these to us, then we won’t hold back.”

Ling Xi simply nodded again. Nothing to be polite about—they were a team. If they were going to live and die together, why squabble over some items?

“We’re all in this together,” she said. “And after giving you these, you better protect me. My cultivation isn’t all that strong…”

She added a mock-worried look, which made everyone laugh. Of course, they would protect her, after everything she’d just given them, they’d be monsters not to.

“Don’t worry, Ling Xi,” Zhang Nu said seriously. “We’ll protect you for sure.”

“Yeah!” Zhao Yang added. “Even if something happens to me, I’ll make sure nothing happens to you.”

Ling Xi couldn’t help but laugh. Who would’ve thought that a few trinkets could turn them into this? If she’d known earlier, she might’ve given them even more just to see these reactions.

Lin Xiao, meanwhile, said nothing. Silently, he reached forward and picked out one of the offensive-type artifacts. That was what he needed most. His defensive and reactive abilities were already strong—what he lacked was raw firepower.

“If you’re sure,” he said plainly. “Then I won’t hold back. I just want one that can help me attack.”

Ling Xi winced a little on the inside. That particular artifact was one she’d been saving for herself. But if Lin Xiao wanted it, she’d give it to him. She knew his offensive capabilities were weak. He really did need the boost.

“All right,” she said. “It’s yours. But promise me you’ll use it properly.”
