Cole Karot watched Fang Heng remain silent and shrugged before turning his gaze back to the battlefield.
As time passed, Cole Karot quickly noticed an anomaly and furrowed his brows.
What was going on?
It seemed like the Umbrella Fungi Clan held the upper hand on the surface, but after all that intense fighting, how had they not managed to kill a single mutant worm creature?
A heavy expression gradually appeared on Cole Karot’s face.
The mutant worms’ vitality was terrifying!
No—terrifying wasn’t even enough to describe it!
Even after being completely sliced by high-frequency beam swords, the mutant worm creatures still regenerated their injuries rapidly and rejoined the battle in a fully recovered state within seconds.
In addition, those mutant worms that had been trapped in place by the Umbrella Fungi creatures using their fungal thread skill managed to gradually free themselves after struggling for some time.
However, the attacks of the Umbrella Fungi creatures were completely unable to break through the defense of the mutant worm creatures and failed to cause any effective damage.
It was as if they were punching a wall—the enemy didn’t budge, no matter what.
Compared to the Umbrella Fungi’s powerful special abilities, their offensive capabilities were lacking, relying heavily on high-tier beam weapons from the dependent factions as support.
But...
Trouble had arrived.
High-frequency beam weapons were powerful, but their energy consumption was massive.
Soon, the Umbrella Fungi Clan realized that their beam swords were running low on energy.
And by then, they had already been tightly surrounded in the center by layer upon layer of Lickers!
Kapa let out a low laugh and glanced sideways at Cole Karot with a mocking tone, "Looks like the Umbrella Fungi aren’t all that great."
Cole Karot didn’t respond.
These mutant worm creatures were far more troublesome than he had imagined.
Fang Heng asked, "Your Highness, do you know these fungi creatures’ weakness?"
"They fear fire. Flame-based attacks deal additional damage to them, and burning also completely nullifies the mycelium’s entanglement effect."
"Thank you."
Fang Heng nodded lightly. What a coincidence.
A batch of lickers in the rear immediately dropped into a setup stance, limbs embedding firmly into the ground as cannon muzzles emerged from the ruptured skin on their backs, aiming forward.
"Whoosh! Whoosh whoosh whoosh!!!"
Concentrated biological cannon fire!
The long-range biological cannons fired in unison, bombarding the Umbrella Fungi Clan who were tightly clustered ahead!
"Boom! Boom boom boom!!!"
With nowhere to run, the Umbrella Fungi, completely surrounded by the Licker swarm, were hit squarely by the targeted attack.
The resulting explosions caused secondary fire-based damage that engulfed the fungi creatures.
Under the intense heat, the fungal threads let out a dry crackling sound and rapidly turned to ash.
By the time the Umbrella Fungi Clan tried to flee, it was already too late. All escape routes were blocked by mutant worms, and within moments, they were completely wiped out by the high-intensity flames.
Fang Heng turned to the stunned Cole Karot and said, "Your Highness, we can proceed with the next step."
Cole Karot suppressed the shock in his eyes and nodded to an elven attendant beside him, "Bring the men over to set up the magic array."
"Yes, sir!"
...
All of the scouting teams dispatched to the mines without exception had been attacked by mutant worms. Only three managed to safely retreat after quickly realizing the situation was bad.
The Shadow Clan quickly understood that the enemy was not simple and immediately sent word to the main flagship to report the situation.
The ores on this planet were rare, and the Shadow Clan didn’t want to give up on them.
Furthermore, since many of their allied troops had suffered casualties in the battles, the Shadow Clan had to restore its prestige.
Soon, upon learning of the ambush, the main flagship decided to descend directly onto the world with the entire fleet via transition.
"We have conducted a full-frequency biological scan of the world and confirmed the presence of large numbers of mutant worms in the mining area’s core, but we have yet to discover a Disaster creature nest."
"Based on intelligence gathered from recent skirmishes, we have confirmed the presence of S-level or even higher-level mutant worms. The mutant worm creatures possess extremely high attributes and a horrifying self-regeneration ability."
At the war council, everyone whispered among themselves.
"Additionally, scouting teams have reported that the mutant worm creatures found on this planet bear some resemblance to those previously controlled by humans."
"Compared to previous Disaster encounters, this swarm is not large in number, and its domain is still small. It’s likely an early-stage insect nest. The sooner we eliminate it, the better."
The Shadow Clan’s main flagship commander finished reviewing the report and turned to look at Prince Cole Karot of the elves, "I heard the Elven scouting team made some discoveries?"
Cole Karot kept his usual aloof expression, paused for a moment, and responded, "The elves scouted a portion of the domain and discovered traces of an insect nest. Following the trail, we found a mutated insect nest. It’s estimated to be between an A and an S level. The target location has already been marked on the planetary domain map."
The captain nodded in approval, "Very good. Well done."
As long as they located the insect nest, they could directly destroy it and wipe it out before the Seed of Ouroboros could rapidly cultivate and expand.
"Captain, we scanned the coordinate region and detected intense spatial fluctuations around the area. High-level spatial turbulence may affect some of the ship’s precision instruments. Our ships may not be able to transition directly into the target location."
The captains of the various allied races murmured amongst themselves.
Such temporal-spatial fluctuations were rare.
In this case, ships wouldn’t be able to enter the area.
This would significantly reduce the overall combat capability of the allied forces.
An alien captain furrowed his brow and asked, "Has this electromagnetic and spatial interference been around for a long time?"
"Yes, the electromagnetic and spatial interference has always existed, but it’s never been this volatile. I suspect it’s due to the emergence of the mutant worms."
The Crocodile Clan, in charge of ore mining on the planet, explained, "If we want to reconstruct stable space, we’ll need to build spatial stabilizers around the area. Considering the stabilizer’s setup and activation time, and the strength and range of the spatial turbulence, it’ll take at least seven days to fully stabilize the space."
But the time remaining before the spawns launched their attack on humanity was less than three days.
If they waited seven days to slowly construct spatial stabilizers, they would have to maintain full defense throughout.
It would be overly cautious.
This wasn’t an SSS-level insect nest, after all—there was no need for that level of concern.
Even if things changed and it turned out to be an SSS-level nest, retreating safely would still be possible.
"The fleet will enter a perimeter alert position around the insect nest domain. We’ll form multiple squads to disembark and carry out joint operations to directly destroy the nest." The Shadow Clan captain quickly made a decision. He looked around and asked, "Does anyone here have any objections?"
Although he asked, the allied forces had always followed the Shadow Clan’s lead.
As usual, no one raised any objections.
The room remained silent.
