Chapter 3059: Defense

Chapter 3059: Defense

Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio

The Shadow Clan led their main fleet teams to clear out mutant worm creatures, as usual, leaving about a quarter of their forces behind to guard the ships.

Vice Captain Evans was in charge of all defensive affairs of the fleet.

In Evans’ view, these routine defense matters carried no danger at all.

With a massive fleet of over a hundred ships, if the mutant worms dared to approach, their energy weapon output alone would be enough to destroy them.

But for some reason, Evans had been sneezing repeatedly today and had a constant feeling of unease.

Not long ago, the Elven Clan had reported that the swarm of mutant worms was showing unusual signs and warned them to stay alert and prepare for battle.

Evans didn’t take it seriously.

What a joke.

Since when were the elves so good at reconnaissance?

Unexpectedly, the ship’s alarm suddenly blared.

"Report to the Captain! Mutant worm intrusion detected outside the ship!"

All ships detected the presence of mutant worms, triggering loud alarms, and almost all ships entered battle mode immediately after the alerts.

"Huh? They actually came?"

Evans looked out the ship’s window and couldn’t help showing a bit of surprise in his eyes.

In the distance, amidst clouds of rising dust, swarms of mutant worms began emerging from below.

It really was a swarm of mutant worms.

Strange, the Seed of Ouroboros had usually remained defensive in posture. Unless their nest was attacked, they never initiated combat so proactively.

Why were they taking the offensive now?

But since they had come, Evans stopped thinking about it.

"Stay calm. Order all ships to enter defensive formation and wipe out the mutant worm swarm!"

"Yes, sir!"

The ships extended their side decks, revealing densely packed long-range beam cannons. Crew members rushed into battle positions and the many muzzles locked onto the approaching swarms.

"Fire!"

"Boom!!!"

The first thick, dark red beam pierced through the dust and exploded in the dense swarm, creating a massive crater in the ground. Immediately afterward, beams of various colors fired in rapid succession, continuously blasting into the swarm.

Hmm?

Evans narrowed his eyes at the swarm outside the window, frowning.

After one full volley, the formation of the swarm had been disrupted somewhat, but it didn’t seem to have done any real damage?

Just like what had been discussed in earlier meetings, the vitality of the swarm was extremely strong.

But so what?

He didn’t believe they couldn’t be killed!

Evans snorted inwardly and ordered, "Increase energy frequency."

"Yes!"

"Report! Commander! A large number of mutant worms are approaching!"

"A large number?" Evans looked at the swarm of about 200 mutant worms outside and asked, "Where?"

In the next instant, the ground outside the ship began violently shaking, large cracks spread across the surface, and dense groups of Lickers emerged from the fissures.

The swarm had bypassed a large distance underground and suddenly appeared all around the ships, launching a direct assault!

D*mn it!

They had been hiding underground!

Before the swarms could climb onto the ships, each vessel activated its barrier defenses, blocking the Licker groups outside the defensive shields.

Evans let out a slight sigh of relief.

Fortunately, the mutant worms mainly used physical attacks, which caused less damage to the barriers.

For now, it was still within manageable limits.

However, the mutant worms seemed to have a strange rebirth ability that made them nearly impossible to kill completely. If the battle dragged on, they wouldn’t be able to hold out forever.

No rush. If he observed, he should be able to find a weakness.

As Evans was observing the battlefield and trying to identify a flaw in the mutant worms, a nearby researcher rushed forward and reported, "Captain, a transition request has come from the elves’ ship. They say they discovered the mutant worms’ weakness and request to report in person."

Evans frowned slightly.

Come to think of it, the elves were the first to detect the unusual movements of the mutant worms. Maybe they really had found something.

"Alright. Grant the transfer."

Soon, Deborah, the Elven patriarch, brought Fang Heng into the main control room.

When Evans saw Fang Heng—wearing a mask and standing beside Deborah—he frowned slightly, sensing something strange about the man.

"This is?"

Whoosh!!

Fang Heng didn’t answer. He acted first, turning into a black shadow and dashing toward Captain Evans at high speed!

Capture the king first!

What!

Evans never expected the Elven Clan to start a rebellion at this moment. His heart skipped a beat, and in that moment of distraction, Fang Heng’s massive fist was already closing in!

"Whoosh!!!"

Fang Heng’s punch sliced through the air with a sharp sound.

Evans’ expression changed drastically. His entire right side instantly turned into a black fog!

Whoosh!

Fang Heng’s fist passed directly through the black fog. He turned, locking eyes on Evans.

"Heh! Interesting!"

The Shadow Clan’s special ability.

Shadow form.

Somewhat similar to a soul body, but entirely different. In shadow form, the user’s dark figure was still visible. It was said to be an innate ability of the Shadow Clan, making them immune to most physical attacks and resistant to some spells as well.

"Be careful! Protect the Captain!"

Over ten elite Shadow Clan members in the main control room reacted instantly. Three of them quickly condensed an imprint in front of them, while another seven charged straight at Fang Heng.

At the same time, the ship’s guards raised their guns and aimed at Fang Heng’s group.

Shadow spheres!

Dark shadow spheres floated in the air, casting Fang Heng’s shadow on the ground.

Fang Heng immediately felt his body being forcibly locked in place by a strange power.

Looking up, he saw seven elite Shadow Clan members simultaneously enter shadow form, turning into black fog as they flew at him.

"Hmph!"

Fang Heng let out a cold snort.

Whoosh! Whoosh whoosh!!!

In an instant, dark Underworld Orbs condensed from his tattoos and shot toward the incoming Shadow Clan elites.

"Chi! Chi chi chi!!!"

As the orbs collided with the shadow bodies, they let out sizzling sounds and pierced straight through the black fog.

The elites who were hit by the Underworld Orbs instantly showed drastic changes in their expressions. Their shadow-formed bodies began to rapidly corrupt and dissolve under the orb’s power!

What were those black spheres!? They were actually inflicting terrifying damage to the shadow form?

Seeing the Underworld Orbs flying at them again, the Shadow Clan elites dared not take the hit. They quickly retreated.

Once back in physical form, the parts of their bodies grazed by the orbs were a bloody mess.

What kind of terrifying ability was that?

The Shadow Clan had rarely seen any ability that countered shadow form so effectively. They looked at Fang Heng with fear in their eyes.

"Go!"

Fang Heng raised his hand toward the Shadow Clan again.

"Whoosh! Whoosh whoosh whoosh!!!"𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Twenty-four Underworld Orbs flew directly at the shadow sphere floating in mid-air.

"Boom!!!"

The shadow sphere exploded under the impact of the Underworld Orbs, releasing a dense ghostly mist of the undead in all directions.
