"Don’t rush it. Take your time. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll have a sudden flash of insight," Nasir said casually as he tossed the packed breakfast to Fang Heng. "I figured you’d still be cultivating. Here, brought this for you."
Countless geniuses had failed to break through the demigod-level barrier. Truly achieving that breakthrough was never easy.
"Thanks."
Fang Heng accepted the breakfast and nodded, "If only I could see a completed alchemy magic array in place. I might be able to draw some inspiration from it."
"It’s not that simple. Once an alchemy magic array was completed, it would definitely be dismantled completely. We wouldn’t get the chance to observe it," Nasir replied, then changed the subject. "But after so many years of research, we’ve figured out a few shortcuts."
Fang Heng’s eyes lit up. He looked up and asked, "What kind of shortcuts?"
"Some inheritances left behind privately by certain races."
"This time, I brought you to the Lanyue Clan for that very reason. The Lanyue Clan had a long-standing inheritance of alchemy magic arrays. Last time I looked into it, I discovered that their Elders Council had books on alchemy magic arrays, some of which involved high-level Law arrays—already within the scope of transcendent alchemy."
As Nasir spoke, his expression gradually turned serious. He continued, "I went through some ancient tomes and noticed signs that the books had been tampered with. There were likely deeper, more advanced records of alchemy."
"But when I asked the Lanyue Clan about it, they told me the inheritance books were limited to those."
"You think they were lying?" Fang Heng asked.
"Most likely. Books related to demigod-level cultivation are considered taboo, so it’s normal for the Lanyue Clan to hide those parts of the inheritance," Nasir said. "Last time, I tried sneaking in but was caught. So this time, I brought you along, hoping we could investigate the ancient sacrificial hall of the Lanyue Clan together."
"I see," Fang Heng nodded slightly, immediately intrigued. "When do you plan to act?"
"I’ve been ready for a while. I just didn’t want to interrupt your cultivation these past few days. Whenever you’re free, we can pick a night to sneak in and take a look."
"How about tonight?"
"Works for me."
The two quickly settled on a time.
Mu Shunan only had surface-level knowledge of alchemy and wasn’t interested in participating. He stood aside, pretending not to hear any of it.
"Aside from some races that might be hiding their own advancement methods, most transcendent warriors had to rely on themselves to break through," Nasir said.
"It also had something to do with talent. The race of the Gods probably possessed the highest level of talent. I heard that they were born with special Law-based abilities. They could sense Law at any time, and every movement they made could influence the Laws of the world. If only we could find a way to inherit the bloodline of the Gods."
Nasir began to daydream, sighing, "Then breaking through not just to demigod-level, but even to god-level would be easy."
Mu Shunan snorted and scolded with a laugh, "You’re dreaming. Each member of the God Clan is terrifyingly powerful on their own. And you’re thinking about getting their bloodline? You must have a death wish."
"Haha, I was just saying."
Nasir laughed, then turned to Mu Shunan and said, "Speaking of which, in terms of theoretical knowledge, the Noel Clan had the oldest inheritance. You’ve been with them for a long time. Did you manage to dig up any shortcuts?"
Mu Shunan’s expression shifted slightly.
Nasir had asked offhandedly, but when he saw Mu Shunan’s reaction, he couldn’t help but press further, "Wait, there really is something?"
"Not exactly. But recently, a friend of mine from the spawns contacted me in private."
Fang Heng perked up with interest and looked at Mu Shunan.
"They wanted me to join a combat team under the spawns and help them carry out missions."
"You didn’t agree, did you?"
"Of course not. Back when I ended up in the Seven Realms Martial Capital, it was the Noel Clan that helped me. I owe them. I’m not the type to forget gratitude," Mu Shunan paused before continuing, "But I have to admit, their offer was tempting."
"What was it?"
"A type of orb that allows one to perceive the power of Law."
Nasir was surprised and asked, "Huh? An orb? That kind of thing exists?"
"Yeah. I was shocked too. Just goes to show, the world is full of strange things. Just because we don’t know about them doesn’t mean they don’t exist."
Mu Shunan added with admiration, "I tried the orb myself. The effect was obvious. It greatly increased my perception of external Law for a period of time. Unfortunately, the duration was a bit short."
"No wonder. That explains why so many warriors have joined the spawns recently. It’s probably because of this Law orb," Nasir said bitterly, "Still, their strength hasn’t improved that much. I guess the orb is just a supplementary tool. It’s not decisive."
That might have been true, but if so many warriors had chosen to side with the spawns, the orb’s effect probably wasn’t weak either.
If an average person needed ten years to reach demigod-level, and the orb reduced that by even one-third, that was still three years of effort saved.
As Fang Heng listened to Mu Shunan, he suddenly remembered something.
After eliminating a few of the spawns’ subordinate warriors, he had found a few orbs on them.
Could those be the very Law orbs Mu Shunan was talking about?
Without hesitation, Fang Heng flipped his wrist and took out one of the orbs he had found, placing it in his palm.
"Is it this kind of orb?"
"Yes, that’s it!" Mu Shunan’s eyes widened with surprise. He looked at Fang Heng and asked, "Where did you get it?"
"Got it off a subordinate of the spawns. Please keep this to yourselves," Fang Heng replied calmly, then asked, "How do you use the orb?"
From a subordinate of the spawns?
Mu Shunan and Nasir exchanged a glance.
They had recently heard about a few spawn subordinates turning up dead in the streets. The spawns were still investigating the culprit.
Could it have been...
Mu Shunan had a hunch but didn’t press the topic further. Instead, he answered, "Simple—just swallow it."
Swallow it!
Fang Heng didn’t hesitate. He opened his mouth and swallowed the orb.
It didn’t contain energy. As soon as it entered his mouth, it melted into a cool liquid.
Once it entered his stomach, Fang Heng immediately felt the surrounding Law energy become incredibly clear to his perception.
The effect was significant!
Without another word, Fang Heng closed his eyes and focused, trying to sense the Law around him and contemplate how to alter the surrounding Law using alchemy magic arrays.
The effect of a single orb lasted for about an hour, after which the enhanced perception gradually faded.
After checking, he saw that the mission completion rate for the demigod-level alchemy breakthrough had increased by 5%.
Not bad.
If only he could get his hands on more of them...
Fang Heng began to plan silently.
