Chapter 320: Rebirth
Chapter 320: Ch 320 : Rebirth
The Throne Room, City of Gods.
Inside the shimmering sphere, time had ceased to hold meaning.
Sunny sat on the empty air, his hand hovering inches above the jagged forehead of Beru.
He let a small portion of his faith enter the body of Beru.
It sank into Beru’s soul like a stone dropped into a dark ocean.
It was hunting for the Law of Evolution.
Deep within Beru’s soul, buried under eons of hunger and instinct, a dim, red particle flickered.
It was the original spark gifted by the Void Mother, now dormant and starving.
The drop of Faith touched it.
ZZZT.
For a second, nothing happened. The silence stretched, heavy and suffocating.
Then, the spark ignited. It roared to life. The dim red light exploded into a blinding crimson supernova. The dormant Law woke up, realizing it was being fed the highest quality energy in all the multiverses.
And then, it tried to escape.
WHOOSH.
The Particle of Evolution ripped itself free from Beru’s soul. It shot upward, moving with frantic desperation toward Sunny’s hand.
It ignored Beru entirely. It sensed Sunny’s aura, the aura of... It’s creator. It sensed the aura to the Source, the Void Mother’s essence that clung to Sunny.
To the particle, Sunny was the sun, and Beru was just a cold rock.
Sunny’s eyes narrowed behind his mask.
"Not so fast," Sunny whispered, his voice vibrating with absolute authority. He closed his fingers. The space around the rebellious particle solidified, freezing it mid-air.
"You belong to him," Sunny commanded, pushing his will against the Law. "Go back. Do your job."
Under the crushing weight of the Emperor’s command, the particle trembled. It hesitated, caught between the desire for the greater source and the order of its current master. Finally, it submitted.
It shot back down, diving into the chaotic matrix of Beru’s talents.
"Go on," Sunny murmured, watching the light spread like a virus through Beru’s system. "Work your magic."
The particle acted as a bridge. On one side were Beru’s current talents, On the other side were the dormant talents of his past life as a void born.
The two halves collided. As they began to fuse.
"As expected," Sunny whispered, a satisfied smile playing on his lips.
He watched the energy flow. It was the same phenomenon he had observed with Merlin.
In his past life, Merlin was the apex when it came Cardmaster profession, he was someone who could control 15 cards simultaneously, and with a few minutes of cooldown, he could switch his cards into some new cards too.
But In this life, he was even better than before. When the old and new talent of Merlin fused, it allowed for 18 cards and instantaneous card switching without any cooldown.
Now, he was seeing what the particle of the law of evolution can do.
Previously, Beru’s Evolution was a game of chance. He would eat a Dragon, and maybe he would evolve and get fire breath, or maybe he would just get indigestion. It was random.
But now?
Sunny looked at Beru using his god’s eyes, and his eyes widened as the new talent appeared in Beru’s description.
[Talent : Deterministic Evolution (SS-Grade)]
[Effect: The user can analyze the genetic code of consumed prey. The user can select specific traits to assimilate. Assimilated traits are optimized and enhanced.]
"Incredible," Sunny muttered.
It made Beru’s talent many times more powerful. If Beru ate a Demon God, he could choose to take any trait that the demon god possessed.
"It’s almost like Skill Resonance," Sunny analyzed. "Though, mine is conceptual and instant. His is physical and requires consumption. Still... he is becoming the ultimate Apex Predator."
Outside the Bubble.
To Sunny and Beru, hours were passing as the law of evolution rewrote itself.
But to Cai Zhen and Thera, standing just a few meters away, the events were instantaneous.
They saw Sunny place his hand on Beru’s head.
They saw a flash of red light.
And then, the pressure in the room skyrocketed.
The air grew heavy, smelling of death, It was the scent of a jungle where everything wants to kill you.
"See?" Merlin said, shuffling his deck of cards with a smug grin. "That is what I was talking about. You wouldn’t believe me until you saw the miracle with your own eyes."
Cai Zhen narrowed his eyes. He could feel the strange energy Beru was emitting.
"Did you go through the same process?" Cai Zhen asked, his voice low. "Is it painful? Usually, forceful elevation of a foundation cracks the soul. I know forbidden techniques that boost power, but they leave the user crippled."
He looked at Beru. The insectoid wasn’t screaming. He wasn’t cracking. He looked... serene.
"No," Cai Zhen corrected himself, watching the aura thicken. "He doesn’t look crippled. He looks... stable. He is becoming even more powerful."
"I don’t know the specifics," Merlin replied, flipping a card that turned from lively flower to a dead flower. "But the process was the same for me. The Emperor touches you, and you become... More."
"Shh," Thera whispered, gripping Cai Zhen’s sleeve. "Look. It’s finishing."
Inside the bubble, Sunny withdrew his hand.
"Now, it is up to you, Beru," Sunny’s voice echoed, though only he could hear it.
He dissolved the time-dilation bubble. The barrier vanished.
Sunny stepped back, returning to his throne. "How much you evolve from this... will decide your worth in the coming war. Do not let me down."
For a moment, Beru stood motionless.
Then, a sound like cracking thunder filled the hall.
CRACK.
Beru’s exoskeleton split down the middle.
"GRAAAHHH!"
A loud roar escaped his throat, but it wasn’t a scream of pain. It was a scream of power and strength.
His size began to increase exponentially. He grew from three meters to five, then to ten.
His muscles bulged, tearing through the exoskeleton. It wasn’t a size manipulation talent; his cells were literally multiplying at light speed to accommodate the influx of Law.
He became a towering monstrosity, a organism of spikes and blades that nearly touched the invincible ceiling of the Throne Room.
Then, just as quickly, the process reversed.
HISS.
Steam erupted from his body. The massive bulk began to compress. The Law of Evolution realized that size was inefficient. True power lay in density.
He shrank back down. Twelve meters. Eight meters. Four meters.
As he shrank, a thick, viscous white fluid began to ooze from his pores. It coated his body, hardening instantly upon contact with the air.
Layer by layer, the fluid wrapped him in a shell.
Within seconds, the terrifying Insect God was gone. In his place stood a Cocoon.
It was beautiful. It was pure white, pulsing with a soft, rhythmic light like a heartbeat. It didn’t look like something made by a monster; it looked like a holy artifact.
Cai Zhen, Thera, and Merlin watched in silence, mesmerized. The energy radiating from the cocoon gave them a strange feeling, a resonance that made their own souls itch with the desire to grow.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The heartbeat grew louder.
CRACK.
A single fracture appeared on the smooth white surface.
Then another.
SHATTER.
The cocoon exploded into dust of light.
From the mist, a figure walked out.
He was no longer the jagged, monstrous insect they had known.
He stood at a sleek seven feet tall. His exoskeleton turned into an obsidian-purple metal that absorbed the light.
His claws were refined, elegant, and sharper than any sword Thera had ever summoned.
His previous eyes were gone, replaced by eyes with slit pupils. A crown of jagged horns sat upon his head, regal and terrifying.
He was no longer just a bug. He was the King of the Swarm.
Beru flexed his new hands, feeling the infinite potential coursing through his veins. He didn’t look at his companions. He didn’t look at his new body.
He looked straight at the throne.
He walked forward, his movements silent and fluid, carrying the grace of a perfect killer.
He dropped to one knee, lowering his crowned head to the floor.
"Thank you," Beru rasped, his voice sounding like two mountains grinding together, deep and filled with reverence.
"Thank you, My Emperor. Thank you for this rebirth"
