Chapter 357: Interrogation
Chapter 357: Interrogation
After the meeting was dismissed, everyone entered preparation mode. The camp rebuilding was still progressing, albeit at a slow pace.
The reason for the slow progress was naturally because of the massacre that had happened a day ago. You could not expect them to be magically motivated.
Gabriel knew all this and did not force them, allowing everyone to work at their own pace.
Currently, he was observing the camp’s progress. Beside him stood Seraphina. She held a black umbrella that provided cover from the sun. She was still invisible to the others and only visible to Gabriel.
Although he was facing forward, his gaze was actually fixed on the translucent light blue screen visible only to him.

Seeing the number of Extraction Points nearing a thousand, a satisfied and proud look appeared on his face.
’It would have been higher if I hadn’t used extraction back in the tower.’ Gabriel thought.
However, he did not regret it. This was enough. For the upcoming battle, he knew he needed to arm his subordinates and also empower himself.
"Why are you excited?" Seraphina suddenly asked.
"Nothing," he replied, his expression returning to normal. "I just got a bit stronger."
"Hm, but I didn’t notice any aura," she frowned slightly. "I can usually tell when someone gets stronger."
Suddenly, something occurred to him.
"Do you also have a status screen?" he asked.
"The red screen?" she raised a brow.
He hesitated. His own was blue. Even in his past life, it had always been that way, and he had confirmed with other players that theirs were not much different.
"Could you show me?" he asked.
"Sure." She nodded and outstretched her hand.
Gabriel held it.
This was the standard way to share status in his world.
The process was not complicated. One only needed to hold the other person’s hand and will the system to display their stats and attributes.
That was what he thought, but something strange happened the moment his warm hand intertwined with Seraphina’s cold one.
Zap!
A jolt of electricity surged through both of them, and they quickly pulled back.
Confusion showed clearly on both of their faces.
"What was that?" Seraphina furrowed her brows, her red eyes filled with uncertainty.
"Let’s try again," he said, reaching out once more.
Zappp!
This time, the reaction was much more intense, and sparks flew from their palms.
He frowned, trying to understand the reason. It was not like this when he held hands with Anna.
It was the first time either of them had experienced something like this, and he was genuinely lost.
"How about this," he said, meeting her gaze. "Hold my hand without thinking of anything."
She did, and this time there was no jolt of electricity. Only the normal cold sensation transferred between them.
Seraphina’s body was naturally cold. When that coldness passed to him, his warmth flowed back in return.
"This doesn’t make sense..." the confusion on his face only deepened.
To be sure, they tried one last time. Both of them focused clearly on the intent of sharing their status. No distractions. No hesitation.
The moment their palms met again, the air between them distorted slightly.
Zappp!
A violent surge erupted, far stronger than before, forcing them apart as sparks crackled and faded into nothingness.
Seraphina took half a step back, staring at her hand as she flexed her fingers slowly.
"That was not mana backlash," she said calmly, though a hint of uncertainty slipped into her tone. "Nor blood energy. It felt... rejected."
Gabriel exhaled slowly, his eyes narrowing.
"That confirms it," he muttered.
She tilted her head. "Confirms what?"
He did not answer immediately. Instead, his gaze shifted back to the camp below, watching players reinforce barricades, move supplies, and rebuild with weary expressions.
"The system isn’t failing," he said at last. "It’s refusing."
Her eyes narrowed. "Refusing us?"
"Yes," he replied. "More specifically, it’s refusing the connection between us."
He turned back to her.
"When you held my hand without intent, nothing happened. No resistance. No reaction. Just physical contact. But the moment we tried to access system authority, status, attributes, soul linked data, it triggered a rejection."
Seraphina listened in silence.
"There are only a few things the system protects that fiercely. Race difference. Soul structure. Maybe even origin."
Her expression darkened. "You’re saying our races are incompatible?"
"Not just races," he corrected. "Souls."
He tapped his chest lightly. "I’m human by race, but my soul has been altered because of my talent. I’m not exactly the same as every other human. I’m an irregular."
He was not boasting. He truly was an irregular.
Humans were only supposed to have one class. That was the universal rule. Yet he possessed two.
Berserker and Demonic Exorcist.
"On the other hand, you’re a vampire," he continued. "Not just any vampire. You’re a queen. A sovereign existence with a royal bloodline."
Her lips parted slightly as realization dawned.
"So the system sees us as—"
"Two entities that shouldn’t overlap," he finished. "At least not directly."
Silence stretched between them.
For some reason, Seraphina hated that conclusion. She did not like the fact that not everything about them was compatible.
"I have a question," she said suddenly.
"Hm," he responded, a subtle gesture for her to continue.
"What if I turn you into a vampire?"
"No. I’m perfectly fine like this."
His answer was swift.
A crestfallen expression appeared on her face.
She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, a presence appeared at the doorway.
"Master, the prisoner is ready to talk now," reported Anna, who naturally could not see Seraphina.
He turned away, walking past the vampire queen.
"Lead the way."
