Chapter 376: The Attack: Caught in the Act [8]

Alice moved like a shadow the moment she crossed fully into the first class area.

The difference hit her immediately.

This place was not just cleaner or wider like the second class district. It was refined. The roads were smooth stone slabs without cracks, wide enough for multiple vehicles to pass side by side. Decorative lamps lined the pavements, glowing with soft orange light that pushed back the darkness of the night. Tall iron fences separated private compounds, and behind them stood large mansions built from reinforced stone and metal alloys, each one guarded, each one screaming wealth and authority.

People here did not rush. They walked slowly and confidently, dressed in extravagant gear that was both functional and expensive. Custom weapons hung casually at their sides. Some wore cloaks bearing insignias that clearly marked their rank within the eastern camp hierarchy. Even their conversations were different, calm and assured, as if the chaos and desperation of the wilderness did not exist for them.

Alice crouched low on a rooftop, her body pressed flat as she surveyed the area.

’So this is where all the good stuff is hidden,’ she thought.

She activated her killing intent suppression again, making sure her presence was as close to nonexistent as possible. Then she began to move, using shadows, rooftops, and blind spots with practiced ease. Her movements were careful but fluid, every step calculated. She did not rush. Rushing was how mistakes were made.

As she studied the layout, she noticed vehicles.

Not just a few scattered transport trucks, but a constant flow of them moving toward a single location deeper within the district. Large reinforced trucks, some armored, others carrying sealed containers. Guards escorted them in pairs and squads, their weapons always ready and their gazes vigilant.

Her eyes narrowed as she followed from a distance, hopping silently from roof to roof until she saw it.

A massive structure loomed ahead. It was built from thick concrete and reinforced metal plates, its surface dull and utilitarian compared to the luxury around it.

There were no decorative lights like the luxurious mansions nearby. The builders had clearly prioritized functionality over luxury.

A wide entrance stood open, allowing vehicles to enter and exit freely, while armed guards were stationed at every corner and elevated platform.

’That’s it,’ she thought immediately. ’That must be where the good stuff is.’

She watched carefully for several minutes, memorizing patrol patterns, timing the guards’ movements, and counting how many entered and exited. She noticed how the guards talked casually among themselves, relaxed despite the security. Their conversation drifted faintly to her ears.

"...heard they’re finally moving out tomorrow."

"Hah. About time. Whoever dared mess with us must be insane."

"Doesn’t matter who wins. We’ll be swimming in loot afterward."

The confidence in their voices was not arrogance born from ignorance.

She could hear it clearly in the way they spoke, in how loosely their weapons hung at their sides, in how their eyes wandered instead of staying sharp and alert. These were not men worried about an uncertain future. These were men who believed the outcome was already decided before the battle even began.

And why wouldn’t they believe that.

This first class district alone housed more armed personnel than some entire camps she had seen in the wilderness. Well fed. Well equipped. Backed by supply lines that clearly had not been interrupted for a long time. Add to that the armored vehicles, the tanks she was certain were stored somewhere nearby, and stockpiles of ammunition that could sustain prolonged warfare, and the picture became clear.

Alice shifted slightly on the rooftop, her eyes following another convoy as it rolled past. This one was heavier than the last. The tires sank slightly into the stone road under the weight.

Because of the sheer height of the truck, it was difficult to see the top. Without hesitation, she activated Blink and appeared directly above the containers, lying flat on her stomach.

The truck pulled inside, and the drivers climbed down and began unloading the crates while gossiping among themselves. All this while, Alice remained calm.

She was not worried about cameras. Geoffrey had said there were none. At first she had thought he was lying, but after scanning the camp herself, she realized he was telling the truth.

The reason they did not have cameras in place remained a mystery to her.

When the men were done offloading, they left the warehouse.

After confirming they were gone, Alice jumped down from the top of the truck, landing softly and smoothly without making a single sound.

The interior was massive.

Rows upon rows of metal crates stretched far into the distance, stacked neatly and labeled with stenciled markings. The air smelled of oil, metal, and gunpowder. Overhead lights illuminated everything brightly, leaving very few shadows, which made her slow down even more.

She crouched behind a stack of crates and carefully peeked out.

Weapons.

There were so many weapons. Assault rifles loaded with mana bullets. Sniper rifles mounted with enhanced scopes. Shotguns designed for close combat. Boxes filled with ammunition of different calibers. Grenades stacked in reinforced containers. Mana bombs sealed with warning runes. Even heavier equipment sat further in, mounted on racks.

Alice swallowed slowly. This was not just enough to defend a camp, it was enough to wage a war.

She moved deeper, opening a crate just enough to peer inside. Rows of ammunition, neatly packed and sealed. She checked another crate nearby. More weapons. Another held protective gear, armor plates, helmets, and shields embedded with defensive arrays.

’That bald headed butler wasn’t lying,’ she thought grimly.

She began to estimate. Crate after crate. Row after row. Even conservatively, this warehouse alone could equip several hundred fighters, possibly more. And judging by the organization, this was only one of multiple storage areas.

Her jaw tightened. She made her way toward a side corridor and slipped through a reinforced door that led into another chamber.

Her eyes widened at what she saw.

Twelve armored tanks sat parked in a neat formation, their metal bodies imposing even in silence. Heavy cannons were mounted on their turrets, with mana conduits glowing faintly along their frames. Nearby were armored trucks and transport vehicles, each one clearly built for combat rather than simple transport.

Alice exhaled slowly. The eastern camp was not just strong. It was dangerously prepared.

She took mental notes, memorizing everything. The number of tanks, their positioning, and the most likely routes they would take once deployed.

She wanted to sabotage their equipment, however the probability of triggering an alarm was too high.

’I’ve spent too much time here... that otherworlder might already be waiting,’ she thought.

She was just about to retreat when a calm voice spoke from behind her.

"Infiltrating a well secured place such as this is a skill not many can boast of."

Alice froze.

Badump. Badump.
