Chapter 428: Disrupting the Blood Rain[1]
Dominic watched the chaos below with a calm smile as he spoke in a mocking tone.
"Look at them. They call themselves survivors, but the moment pressure touches them, they scatter like dirt under water. That Henry really did a disgusting job." His eyes turned to the Broken Dawn side, and he added, "Your people are better, I’ll give you that. However, that doesn’t mean any of you will leave here alive."
He lifted his hand again, palm open, and the blood ring responded by forming thicker drops, larger projectiles, and the fear that had already been spreading turned into something worse because the next wave would be even more destructive.
BANG!
The next projectile came down and struck the corner of a collapsed building within the incomplete city where several fighters had taken shelter. The impact shattered stone while blood splashed into the cracks, burning through cloth and skin with the same cruel persistence.
The men inside screamed and tried to jump out, but the exit was narrow, and the moment they crowded it, two more projectiles fell in their direction, turning the escape route into a death funnel.
Broken Dawn fighters tried to pull them out, but Gabriel shouted, his voice echoing across the battlefield as though amplified by sheer force.
"Don’t crowd. Pull back. Spread out and stay alive."
Scarlet’s eyes narrowed because she knew the rule even if it hurt to follow. Saving one person the wrong way could cost ten.
Sophie’s barrier finally collapsed after her mana was exhausted, and she stumbled backward, her breathing ragged, her reserves clearly running low.
She looked at Gabriel with a desperate expression, wanting to say something, wanting to ask what they should do, but he didn’t turn. He simply ordered.
"Stay behind cover. Don’t waste mana on the rain. Save it for when he comes close."
Those words alone steadied her because it meant he wasn’t panicking. He had already moved to the next phase in his mind.
Indeed, she was right. Thanks to Gabriel’s passive skill, Undead Heart, despite the chaos and despite his men dying left and right, he remained calm, thinking of how to counter a destructive area wide skill such as this one.
"You see why the outcome is already predetermined?" Dominic asked, his voice calm, as if he were explaining something simple. He looked at Gabriel like a problem laid out on a table. "You can’t protect everyone while I control the sky. If you rush me alone, you leave your army without direction. If you hide, you die slowly."
He paused, then added with a mild shrug, "So choose, hero."
Gabriel’s electric blue eyes narrowed slightly, and he shifted his grip on the greatsword, not in anger, but in readiness. He was not confused by Dominic’s logic, because it was the same logic bandit kings used. Force someone into a corner, then offer only bad choices. But Gabriel also understood that Dominic’s confidence came from the ring staying stable, meaning the ring was the real weapon, and Dominic was the anchor.
Gabriel took one slow step forward, careful not to sprint.
"You talk too much for someone claiming certainty."
Dominic’s smile widened as he chuckled. "And you talk too little for someone claiming conquest."
As if to answer that, the blood rain increased again, and for the first time the projectiles fell not only near clusters, but near empty space too, forcing everyone to keep moving, forcing everyone to spend stamina, forcing people into worse footing.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
A wave of red mist drifted close to the ground as splashes evaporated into a burning haze, making breathing harder and making eyes sting, and the battlefield started to look like a living slaughter zone.
That was the real danger, because once soldiers stopped thinking like a group, they stopped being an army, and Dominic clearly wanted both sides reduced to scattered bodies he could harvest.
The more people that died and bled, the stronger the blood ring overhead became.
Further behind, Lin Xueyi grabbed her sister’s arm and pulled her.
Ragnarok looked at the ring above them and swallowed. Apart from the flaming blood rain, the battlefield was also littered with data fragments belonging to players.
Bunny was also struggling to keep up, but as the full blooded streamer that she was, she knew she needed to capture everything.
Meanwhile, the Lin sisters’ faces were filled with irritation, because they had been proud of reaching hero rank, but this kind of battlefield authority made hero rank feel like a joke.
At that moment, Dominic finally took a leap into the air and landed on another building that was much closer to the wall.
He lifted two fingers and flicked them downward, and three heavy blood projectiles formed at once, larger than before, then dropped toward Gabriel’s forward line like judgement.
Gabriel didn’t retreat. He moved, stepping sideways at a controlled pace, and as the first projectile hit where he had been standing, the splash reached his arm, burning through cloth and leaving a red smear that smoked.
His expression didn’t change as Iron Skin activated and the pain was greatly reduced. He rotated his shoulder once, shook off the burning smear, and said quietly,
"So that’s how it feels."
Dominic watched that reaction and his smile lessened for a moment, because he expected panic and got calm instead. And to be frank, that kind of calm annoyed people like Dominic more than insults.
Meanwhile, Gabriel lifted the greatsword, his stance steady, his eyes locked with Dominic’s as both men prepared to finally enter each other’s range, while above them the wide bloody circle continued to rain burning blood that struck fear into everyone who still had the strength to feel fear.
As for Gabriel, he finally knew how to counter Dominic and bring the entire fight to an end.
