Chapter 444: Back at the place Where it all Began

Gabriel took another step forward and stopped in front of the first corpse, his gaze steady as he looked down at the unconscious body. He crouched and placed one hand on the cold armor.

It was not really needed, but it was a habit he had grown used to by now, which sometimes made Anna, who was watching him quietly from the back, wonder if her master had a strange interest in touching the dead.

Gabriel’s fingers pressed lightly as if confirming it was real, and Anna stood behind him in silence, hands folded together, eyes fixed on his back, waiting for his next command.

The dim lights reflected off the stone floor and the still forms lined up beside them. Without wasting time, Gabriel activated his ability by saying the key word.

"Extract."

The prompt lit up before his retina. However, after only a few seconds, his brow tightened and his shoulders stiffened. He straightened slightly as if something felt wrong, his hand sliding away from the corpse while his balance wavered.

Gabriel took one step back, then another, his vision blurring as a wave of weakness hit him all at once. His lips parted as if he wanted to speak, but no words came out, and before Anna could react, his knees buckled and his body tilted forward.

"Master—" Anna cried out, her voice filled with worry.

She moved instantly, catching him before his head could hit the floor, one arm wrapping around his back while the other supported his legs. Her expression tightened as she felt how light he suddenly was. She lowered him carefully for a second to adjust her grip before lifting him fully into her arms, holding him close against her chest.

His body was warm but unresponsive, his breathing shallow. Without calling for anyone or wasting time, she turned and carried him out of the basement, moving quickly through the hallway and past the stunned guards who stepped aside the moment they saw him unconscious.

She did not stop until she reached the upper corridor. Her steps remained steady despite the weight in her arms. Halfway down the hall, she nearly collided with Sophie, who had been heading toward the mansion after finishing another round of inspections.

The moment Sophie saw him in Anna’s arms, her face drained of color.

"Anna," Sophie said quickly, walking closer, her voice soft but urgent as her eyes scanned his pale face. "What happened?"

Anna did not slow down as she answered, adjusting her grip slightly to keep him stable. "Master collapsed. He overworked himself."

She corrected herself quickly, avoiding any slip.

Sophie’s hand lifted without thinking, brushing lightly against his arm as she walked beside Anna, concern clear on her face. "Is he breathing?"

"Yes," Anna replied. "But he’s drained."

They moved together through the wide halls of Henry’s mansion, past closed doors and empty rooms, until Anna pushed open one of the largest chambers at the end of the corridor.

It was a luxurious room that had clearly belonged to Henry, with a large bed, thick curtains, and clean sheets. Anna laid him down carefully on the mattress, removing his top and placing it aside before straightening his posture so he was lying flat. Sophie hurried to his side and sat on the edge of the bed.

She leaned forward and placed two fingers against his neck, her movements gentle as she checked his pulse. Her brows were knitted together as she focused, while Anna stood near the foot of the bed with her hands clasped, watching closely.

"It’s steady," Sophie said after a few seconds, her voice low but relieved. "Weak, but steady."

Anna nodded and spoke in a slightly annoyed tone. "It’s from the intense battle. He pushed himself too hard, forgetting that at the end of the day he is still just human. He just needs proper rest. He will be fine."

Sophie did not move away. She stayed seated beside him, one hand resting lightly on the bed near his arm, her eyes fixed on his face as if afraid to look elsewhere.

"He never stops," she said quietly. "Even after everything, he still goes straight back to work."

"That is Master," Anna replied, pride clear in her voice.

Sophie exhaled slowly and brushed a strand of hair away from his forehead, then straightened slightly as she spoke seriously. "We cannot let this spread. The camp is barely holding together as it is."

Anna nodded again. "I already told the guards to say he is in a meeting. No one needs to know. If the refugees hear that their leader fell, they will panic."

They stayed like that for several minutes, Sophie sitting beside him and checking his breathing from time to time, while Anna stood quietly nearby like a silent guard. Outside the room, Broken Dawn members continued working, unaware of what had just happened inside the mansion.

After a while, Sophie stood up slowly. "I will handle things outside. Make sure he is not disturbed."

Anna bowed her head. "Understood."

Sophie gave him one last concerned look before leaving the room and closing the door softly behind her. Anna moved closer to the bed, pulled the blanket up over his chest, and positioned a chair near his side. She sat down without making a sound, her eyes never leaving him.

Time passed quietly.

Then his fingers twitched.

His eyelids fluttered once, then again, and suddenly his eyes snapped open.

But instead of seeing the ceiling of Henry’s mansion, he found himself standing on cold stone floors beneath towering pillars, surrounded by ancient walls covered in familiar markings.

Gabriel stared around, confusion filling his eyes.

"This place..." he muttered, taking a closer look at the scene around him. The more he looked, the more he realized he was no longer in the room at all.

He was in the temple.

The same one he appeared in after dying in his past life.
