Chapter 527: Joining Chaosknight
Chapter 527: Joining Chaosknight
Gabriel’s gaze lingered on the armored figure for a second longer than the others before shifting back to the group, and a faint trace of annoyance passed across his face when he recognized ChaosCleric standing there.
But just as quickly, as if the latter wasn’t worthy of his attention, he glanced at the armored figure beside him again.
He already knew ChaosCleric, and he knew what kind of people ChaosKnight were, but this one was new. That alone made him stay where he was instead of walking away from the scene like he had first intended.
Dust still floated around the collapsed base, and the street was filled with broken stone, blood, and the remains of an organization that had once made players tremble.
Gabriel stood there with his clothes dirty, his expression calm, and his presence heavy enough that even after surviving the collapse, no one on the other side dared move too much.
ChaosCleric’s throat shifted as he swallowed, while the player beside him kept his shoulders tense and eyes wide. Neither of them had forgotten Monkey Paradise. Neither of them had forgotten what kind of man White Phantom was. He had massacred players before, and now he had just wiped out Black Star. Standing this close to him made the air feel tighter than the dust cloud around them.
For a few seconds, no one spoke. ChaosCleric kept trying to find the right words while Vv remained still, the armor hiding any expression and making the figure look even stranger.
Gabriel noticed that too. He couldn’t read the eyes, couldn’t see the face, and that made his curiosity toward Vv rise even more.
ChaosCleric finally took a breath and stepped forward slightly.
"White Phantom, we—"
Vv cut in before he could finish.
"We want to recruit you into ChaosKnight."
The words landed so directly that even Gabriel blinked once.
ChaosCleric turned so fast his neck almost cracked. "What kind of stupid tone is that?" he snapped. "That’s not how you speak in a moment like this."
It was the first time he had heard Vv speak, and that made his irritation show even more clearly. The player beside him looked between the two in confusion, clearly not expecting the silent one to be the first to speak.
Gabriel found the whole thing ridiculous.
He was Broken Heaven. He was also White Phantom. These people wanted to recruit White Phantom so he could help them deal with Broken Heaven. It was so absurd that, for one brief second, he almost laughed in their faces and walked away.
His eyes moved from ChaosCleric to Vv and back again.
That was when another thought surfaced.
IceQueen.
She was the leader of ChaosKnight and, more importantly, the daughter of the developer. That alone changed the meaning of this invitation. Getting close to her would mean getting close to information. It would put him near one of the few people tied directly to the biggest secret in this world.
"I accept," Gabriel said after a moment of thought.
ChaosCleric stared at him.
The player beside him also froze, and even Vv’s helmet tilted slightly, as if checking whether that answer was real. It had come too fast, too easily, and for a second, ChaosCleric looked like he thought Gabriel was mocking him.
"You... what?" ChaosCleric asked.
Gabriel’s face remained neutral.
"I said I accept."
ChaosCleric took another look at the collapsed base behind him, at the blood on Gabriel’s clothes, and at the calm way he was saying this. Only now did it start to sink in. White Phantom, the same man who had just crushed Black Star alone, had agreed.
His chest tightened with something close to excitement.
At last, he was beginning to understand why IceQueen had kept pushing the idea of recruiting this man. Someone like this was not just a fighter. He was a walking disaster. If ChaosKnight got him first, maybe they really could bring Broken Heaven down one day.
Gabriel watched him quietly before speaking again.
"If I join, I won’t do it as some ordinary member."
ChaosCleric’s expression changed, turning serious. "What do you want?"
Gabriel answered without hesitation.
"I want to be the number two person in the guild, and I want special privileges. I move how I want, I act when I want, and no one questions it."
The player beside ChaosCleric sucked in a breath, clearly shocked by how shameless the demand was. Even Vv stayed still for a moment longer than before.
ChaosCleric did not answer right away.
Technically, that position was his. He was the vice leader, the second most visible person in ChaosKnight after IceQueen herself. Handing that over so casually should have annoyed him more than anything else. Strangely, it didn’t.
He had seen the bodies outside.
He had felt the heat inside.
He had just watched White Phantom walk out of the wreckage alive when everyone else should have died.
A man like that asking for rank wasn’t arrogance. It was simply him stating his value, and he would be damned if he denied that.
ChaosCleric let out a breath and gave a crooked smile.
"Fine... I can agree to that."
The player beside him looked at him in disbelief. "You’re serious?"
ChaosCleric didn’t even look his way. His eyes stayed on Gabriel. "After what happened here?" he said. "Yeah. I’m serious."
Gabriel nodded once, already expecting that response.
ChaosCleric rubbed the back of his neck and added, "There will still be details to settle with IceQueen. You know that, right?"
"I know," Gabriel replied.
Silence followed again, but this time it was different. The earlier tension had shifted into something else. The deal wasn’t fully complete yet, but the shape of it had already been decided.
Gabriel glanced once more at Vv. The armored figure still stood there calmly, saying nothing now, and that only made Gabriel more interested. He still didn’t know what kind of person was inside that armor, but there would be time for that later.
For now, one thing mattered more.
"Take me to IceQueen," Gabriel said.
